I bought this item and after an initial problem was fixed, I love it. I had a problem with it cutting out everytime I hit a bump in the road.
We figured out that it was the plug in connection in the cigarette lighter, I have two connectors side by side in my truck, but it happened no matter which one we used.
My husband went to Radio Shack and bought a new connector and I have had no problems with it since. It's a great product, and for the price you can't beat it. I'm not sure about longevity but we'll see.
My son has a friend that has one, they found on long trips out of state, you may get some static interference and need to change your radio station setting once in awhile from city to city, but nothing that's too much of a problem. To them it's worth having all their chosen tunes along and not having to keep changing CD's.

This is the second one I've purchased. I bought one for my son over 18 months ago and it is still going strong. When I finally joined the 21st Centruy and purchased an Ipod, I tried a couple other FM transmitters and they really stunk! We have traveled quite a bit throughout the State of Florida and the Eastern US using this transmitter. It works great in any area. Very little distortion or static. Trust me, this is a great product.
My only complaint is it takes up a precious cupholder (I only have 2) and it is also hard to see what is on the Ipod unless you remove the entire unit and hold it up. Luckily, this is easy enough to do. I will sacrifice a cupholder to listen to the quality sound this product produces. Another plus is that it keeps the Ipod secure so it is not constantly falling all over the place!

This FM transmitter is amazing! It was super easy to set up and it keeps your ipod snug in your cup holder. Obviously there are things that could make this docking station better but for the price you can't really complain. I live in San Francisco and haven't had any issues with finding a few clear stations - I even took it on a mini-road trip the other day and didn't have any problems.
Also like to add that I was surprised by the decent sound quality!
I used to have an iTrip (the wireless kind) and it constantly had interference and the sound quality was horrible.
So yes, I would recommend this product for anyone who doesn't have a cassette player in their car OR has a Volvo s40 that won't allow direct hook-up.

I'm here buying another one of these. I loved my first one. I went on a whim 2 years ago and bought this model instead of the regular small ones that are mainly just corded and plug into your iPod/iTouch. The sound and reception was always perfect. No static...no constant searching for a signal. My husband bought one of the others that I mentioned (the small cords) and he hated it. He is never able to keep a signal and is constantly irritated. A big plus for me is that it charges your iPod too. I never had to take my iPod out of the car, unless I used it while walking. My Macally worked perfectly for 2 years until it died. Can't find it in any of the stores. Amazon's price is the lowest by far and I can't wait for my new one to come in.Customer Review: Clever Product!

Purchased this on an essentially verbal recommendation from an acquaintance. Was very pleasantly surprised by how well it actually works, at least with my Fifth Generation iPod!
Fits snugly into existing cup holders with it's spring-loaded side "grippers," and produces excellent sound quality. The hardest trick (and this is going to be purely a function of what frequencies are in use by local radio stations) seems to be finding an open FM frequency that also has open frequencies adjacent to it to prevent "bleed-over." But once you find that frequency, this thing works very well!
