Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Macally BTMicro Portable Bluetooth Optical MouseCustomer Review: dysfunctional laser - problem solved (see update) Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this mouse because of all of the good reviews and ignored the review by "quicksketch", thinking that he was probably a whiner. So, I must have gotten his refurbished mouse or this is a repeatable problem with this mouse. I am waiting to hear from tech support and will update this review. I am very frustrated. the mouse worked great for 3 days and now the laser hardly ever comes on!
Update: tech support contacted me within a day and suggested that i download the new bluetooth software from the apple website (will not normally update with software updater in apple menu). I did and it has been working great! Unfortunately, I cannot change my rating, but if i could it would be 5 stars!
Customer Review: Works Great but... Summary: 3 Stars
The mouse works just fine. Unfortunately, I bought it as a primary mouse not realizing how small it really is. I do have big hands, so someone with smaller hands might find it comfortable to use as a regular mouse. That being said, I have since bought an iBook to use when I go on the road, and will use this mouse for traveling. It should do very well in that capacity.
Customer Review: Good responsiveness... BUT.... Summary: 3 Stars
Mouse works fine, but on Apple OS X, there is no software to allow you to program the buttons. Not yet anyway. I had to return mine.
Customer Review: BT Micro Summary: 3 Stars
This mouse had a defective charging adapter cable. I returned it but have still not received a replacement.
Customer Review: Plagued by Disfunctional Laser Summary: 2 Stars
I endured a long wait before finally deciding to spring for a bluetooth mouse. I was hoping that this new mouse from Macally would fit the need. It has all the features I was looking for in a mouse: bluetooth, rechargeable batteries, included charger, on/off switch for traveling, scrollwheel, and two buttons.
When it arrived, my first thought was how small it was. I don't particularly need a small mouse, just one that had all the features I listed above. I'd say this mouse is just a little over half the size of the Apple One Button Mouse (I uploaded an Amazon.com User Image to help gauge the size). The size doesn't take long to get used to, though I wouldn't recommend this mouse to anyone with arthritis or whose hands cramp easily. It has a very nice feel, a significant amount of weight gives it a quality feel. The rubber sides are also a nice touch and can help grip this exceptionally small mouse.
My biggest concern when buying this mouse was how well the scroll wheel worked, and to my delight, the scroll wheel also feels very solid. It has just the right amount of resistance and precision that I like in a scroll wheel. However, the buttons on this mouse are louder than most. Every click feels like it resonates throughout the room.
On to the charger -- I thought this charger would plug into the USB port on my Powerbook, which would have been a great convenience for the road. However, the charger is little more than a cradle with a block AC adapter that plugs into the wall. While this probably charges the mouse faster than USB, I would've taken the convenience over speed.
Now for the real problem with this mouse -- It doesn't work. More than half the time I use this mouse the optic laser doesn't even come on. My powerbook sees the mouse and binds fine with it. The left and right button and the scroll wheel all work, but I can't actually move the cursor on the screen at all. I think the mouse's auto-sleep function is to blame. I can get up from the computer when the mouse is working great, return 10 minutes later and then nothing. Even brand new batteries or letting the mouse charge for hours doesn't do the trick. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't.
So there you have it. A great mouse when it works. I'm sending this one back and buying the new Kensington BT Pilot Mouse instead.
