Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Super Talent Pico-C 8 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive STU8GPCS (Silver)Customer Review: Best Compact Drive You Can Buy Summary: 5 Stars
Ive owned two drives of similar size to this one- corsair's mini voyager, and eagletech's nano drive. This is by far the best and most practical of the three. It is also much more durable. ive owned the 8GB version for nearly a year now, and its never shown any sign of breaking on me. i keep it with me all the time as an accessory to my cell phone. it looks amazing and i always get super positive comments about it. the other good thing about keeping it on my phone is that the drive was always with me and handy.
when i keep drives on my phone, the downside is that they tend to get beaten up pretty badly. noting that my older compact usb drives only lasted me 4 months or so really makes me proud that this one is going on a year now. My friend has owned the 4Gb version for over 2 years now, and he keeps it in his wallet. so i know these things can be put up with a fair amount of abuse.
The only con to this drive itself it that its rather slow when compared with normal sized drives, and especially next to performance drives. oh well- i figure can put up with waiting for it because i save enough time always having it with me. A major drawback worth mentioning is the little hook that these little drives tend to be packaged with. DO NOT TRUST THAT CLIP TO HOLD YOUR DRIVE. Ive gone through about 5 of them in the past year and a half; they're made of cheap metal and bend really easily. my recommendation would be to put it on a small key ring and keep it with your keys instead.
Other than the crappy hook, these drives are awesome. if mine ever dies on me or i need more room, i hope that super talent will still be making them because i would buy it again and again.
Customer Review: Sum total of all reviews Summary: 5 Stars
I've been going through all the reviews of this device and here's the bread and butter.
-If you have a mac you may have to use a dremel and shave the sides a bit to make it fit, depending on the individual model.
-Don't leave it in the port for extended amounts of time as it can get corrupted from overheating. There is a chance that the contacts are simply getting scratched up but the average is 50\50.
-This is a great device that is waterproof and has decent speeds. It also takes a decent beating well and fits just about anywhere.
-Be careful about losing it or leaving it in any port others use. It might get damaged when someone tries to use the port it's in.
-It will get scuffed and scratched but if you don't care about the aesthetics then it's fine.
-Don't worry about the snug fit, if it fits loosely it wouldn't have a perfect connection as it's not designed to fill the slot, only slide in the top.
-if it starts having read or mounting errors, try bending it a bit. It might be just bent enough from removing it or inserting it roughly that the contacts aren't connecting with the ones in the port.
-Check the device for any bend after a couple of months or so and every month after just in case. If it gets bent and you bend it back before use it's less likely to become corrupted.
If all this dissuades you from buying this device, I don't blame you. Simply put if the waterproof nature or tiny size are what you're looking for, this will do fine for a decent price.
Customer Review: Durable; reasonably speedy; best form factor ever Summary: 5 Stars
For those considering keeping this on a keychain: it works.
I've had mine on a keychain for about a year now, and it sits nicely inline with my keys. (The drive + 4 keys can sit flat in my pocket on a smallish keyring.) There are some superficial scratches, but they're only visible on close examination. The copper USB contact points are apparently deep enough that shallow scratches don't interfere with the connection. The insertion guides on either side of the contacts are a bit raised, so that also helps protect the contacts from wearing against other items on the keychain.
The speed is fine; I haven't measured it precisely, but it feels about par for name-brand USB2.0 sticks.
Two minor cons: as noted by other reviewers, the insertion guides are just a fraction of a millimeter larger than standard, so it takes a bit more force than usual to insert or remove. And this drive does get HOT during sustained use (only when copying files, not when just sitting there plugged in). Hot enough to be uncomfortable to hold on to. Not a big problem as long as you have a keychain to pull it out by; but for this reason I wouldn't recommend it as a ReadyBoost drive. Also, be aware that the keychain loop is pretty small; on my keyring, it only fits on the part where the wire is a single width, not on the part where the loops overlap.
Still, it works well, has proven quite durable, and gets incredulous comments when people notice it. How often can you say that about a USB drive?
Customer Review: A Silver (Bullet) Super Talent Summary: 5 Stars
The Super Talent (aka Super Tiny)is a must have.
In terms Function and Data transfer, it gets the job done and fast as well. Whatever that job may be for a flash-drive? Not to many jobs I presume in this economy.
In regards its form and visual appeal there is much to look at due to isn't minimalistic design. Although I must say, compliments on how sexy your flash drive is highly unusual, even for nerds. Yet, the number of admirers I have encountered since my acquisition of the Super Talent Pic-C has been far to many to ignore. Seriously, its like the axe effect, for computer electronics. A quick examination of it simple, compact, and elegant design reveals why so many onlookers tend to drool. Its sturdy, compact, seamless, and most importantly shiny. Did I mention drool resistant? Looks like something James bond carry, on a file transfer mission...underwater.
To conclude, I will leave you all with these profound but straight forward words of wisdom, "Get this device now". This tiny little wonder is easily stored/conceal. Probably easily lost as well, if your not careful. So be careful, will ya. Thanks and Enjoy.
Customer Review: Unbelievable! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using my 8GB Pico C Super Talent for almost a year now and recently switched to the 16GB version. I have never had a single problem with either drive. I put my 8GB drive through the wash twice and is has been soaked with sweat many times in my pocket during long runs or bike rides. I take the drive everywhere with me on my key chain and it has been abused quite a bit. I have never lost data or had any difficulty reading or writing to the device. It is so incredibly small that it doesn't even look like a USB drive on my key chain at all but looks like a small metallic charm. I hate large key chains and only carry 3 keys anywhere with me. This device adds very little bulkiness to the key chain. I love this device so much I bought one for my each of my siblings and parents. My only gripe is that the small chain the device ships with will eventually break. You should probably buy a small ring to attach it to your larger key ring.
