Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech x-230 2.1 2-Piece Dual Drive Speakers with Ported Subwoofer

Customer Review: Well balanced sound, good bass, smooth vocals
Summary: 5 Stars

For folks who really enjoy listening to well recorded music with vocals and deep, full bodied bass, these speakers are just terrific! As an audio enthusiast and industry engineer for many years, my biggest complaint about most computer speakers has been their relatively thin, metallic or boomy sound, that made most music sound like bad boombox tunes. Not with these puppies! They have better tonal balance than far more expensive speakers from companies like Altec, Polk Audio and Bose, and for a lower cost! Most have arrived in perfect condition, but one set arrived with the port tube rattling around loose inside! Out of four sets, that's not a good percentage, so you might want to check them carefully before setting them up.

Yes, I repaired the loose tube, but it's not easy getting in and out, and I do not recommend this tactic for the average user. Just return the item if defective upon arrival. That is the only negative that I have to share, otherwise, they have been a joy and delight for the entire family!

Customer Review: Buy these speakers!
Summary: 5 Stars

These little speakers rock! The sound is very clean and full, with a signal to noise ration >96dB.

The bass is very solid and deep for such a small driver, with a slightly noticeable peak in frequency response around 80Hz or so, depending on what you are listening to. I personally have to turn the volume of the sub to it's lowest level, or the bass overwhelms everything else. I think the greatest thing about these speakers is that even at a low overall volume level the sound is very full with plenty of deep bass (very similar to sound you get from a pair of large element headphones). A lot of speakers sound very thin at low volume levels as the bass rolls off, but not these, the little sub box just keeps thumping. One word of warning: The sub unit is NOT video shielded! Do not place it anywhere near your monitor, or you will ruin it, place it in the floor under your desk as recomended.

These speakers will bring the life back to your MP3 collection, and I won't even mention video games. Buy and enjoy!

Customer Review: A lot of speaker for the money!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is simply to reiterate the excellent reviews of others here. I'm a true audiophile with electrostatic speakers, high-end tube and solid state separates, etc. I can tell the slighest difference in sound quality. That being said, well, I just needed some cheap computer speakers for the study that improved upon the built-in speakers in my iMac. These little guys and the sub work together to forma a richly detailed sound that is impressive in its power, detail and coherence with the sub. The sub has its own volume, and with decent placement and appropriate sound level, it blends well. Best of all, it avoids the "one-note" sound that so many ported subs tend to have -- you can really follow a bassline up and down with no holes at particular frequencies. The sound will fill my smallish 12x12 study easily with no distortion.

I'm sure that there are better computer speakers out there. However, these are around forty and easily beat the Bose that I've auditioned. For the price, you absolutely can't go wrong.

Customer Review: Surprisingly High Sound Quality
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are looking for a spare set of speakers for your office or den, then these are the ticket! I was shocked when I plugged them in and turned them on, the sound quality is that good.

Now don't expect to be able to blast these at 125dB without distortion, frankly I haven't even tried, but for moderate volume listening in small to medium sized rooms these things really fit the ticket.

While the bass is somewhat powerful, especially on the higher settings, it can be turned down to near silence if you desire. That is one feature lacking in some other computer speaker sets I've used, particularly Creative- IE: The lowest setting on the Sub would still overpower the main drivers.

Pretty ingenious design with the dual-drivers in each satellite. The enclosure is very well designed and is obvious by the complete lack of constructive and destructive interference between the two equal sized drivers.

For $30, don't even hesitate. Buy these and be happy.

Customer Review: What a difference -- good shielding!
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me start off by saying I couldn't be happier with these speakers -- they really work well. But I had a special reason for purchasing them: I found them recommended by people that had been having problems with EMI/RFI interference from GPRS phones, BlackBerries, WiFi routers, etc. with other "cheap" computer speakers.

These speakers have ** 100% ** COMPLETELY ** fixed my problems. No more hissing/popping noises caused by my cell phone, BlackBerry, or WiFi router! The difference is unbelieveable. I don't know what kind of shielding is in these speakers, but it REALLY, REALLY works. It's like a miracle.

One small caveat: the other reviewers that have said that these speakers have too much bass are right. If you're over 30, they have too much bass. Luckily I have decent built-in audio on my PC, and it has a "master" bass slider in its software, so I just dialed that down a bit and now everything sounds teriffic.
