Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech x-230 2.1 2-Piece Dual Drive Speakers with Ported SubwooferCustomer Review: Sleek, modest speakers work well Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned many computer speakers over the years, and the Logitech X-230 are one of my favorites for their combination of price and design. They look modern and streamlined, and pack enough punch for most all desktop uses. I bought 3 sets of these x-230s over the last six months, to replace older, bulky, clunkier 3-piece speaker sets. The new ones sound much better than what they replaced.
Crank them all the way up, and you will notice the relatively weak middle range, but it's still very crisp and clear and hard to complain about at this price. Also look for the "whitebox" OEM version of this product, which is somewhat cheaper and is the exact same product, minus the nice external box.
The only minor drawbacks, that are addressed in Logitech's more expensive speakers, are:
- the bass volume control is on the sub-woofer unit rather than on the speaker with the regular volume control
- the fixed cable connecting to the two speakers to each other is relatively short. Not a problem unless you have an unusual desktop design (such as dual wide-screen flat-panels).
But for their quality, these speakers are downright inexpensive. Recommended.
Customer Review: For the price, this kicks butt ! Summary: 5 Stars
Get real, if you need better speakers then pull out a hundred, not two twenties!
These speakers satisfy all requirements for my PC. I've been putting them through the paces with Blink182, Scorpions, The Band, and Talking Heads. Sounds great.
Yes, you can get better sound, I'm sure. But for < $40? Let's just say, I like the price.
No problems hooking up the system.
I retired the old speakers that the chintzy PC builder included with my system. They were lousy, with a "tin" sound and very limited capability of playing bass. It was frustration with those klunkers that drove me to purchase slightly upscale models. I am not the most demanding audiophile in the world, but even I cannot stand the typical, el cheapo, crappy speakers that get thrown in with most systems.
My laptop hooks up to a nice 2.1 set of Altec Lansing that I purchased last year from Best Buy, but I think I may like this better for looks alone. Plus it was $15 cheaper. Plus the BASS has volume control, which Altec's does NOT. Overall? Better than Altec Lansing.
Recommended! What more can I say?
Customer Review: Great speakers for the Mac Mini! Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a Mac mini and wanted some good speakers to go with it. I looked at the Harman Kardon Sound Sticks II and the JBL Creature speakers, but chose these instead, and I am very happy I did. The sound is crisp, clear and can get plenty loud. The size is perfect, not-too-small and not-too-big. They are solidly constructed. The classic design in black and silver, looks great -- without screaming for attention -- and blends easily with my other hardware and furniture.
Other reviewers have mentioned these speakers lacking mid-range or having too much bass. Right out of the box, I agree the bass is too rich. But this is easily remedied by adjusting the bass via a knob on the back of the subwoofer and tuning other audio qualities using the equalizer software features in iTunes or iDVD. After a few minutes of tweaking, voilà - great sound!
Last but not least, the price is hard to beat. When my wife read the packing slip and saw I paid less than $35 for these speakers, she was very skeptical. But now she's amazed at how good they sound. These are great computer speakers for a low price.
Customer Review: Too good for my PC! Summary: 5 Stars
These little speakers are amazing, especially for the small price...I hooked them up to my pc and played a CD; result: Amazing--precise and really beefy sound. I actually spent some time listening to radio stations on my Dell (which, I never do). Great! Then...since I have my pc in the same room where I have a top-of-the-line A/V system...I moved this little gadget to my bedroom TV w/DVD player--this is where it will stay!!! I was going to buy an inexpensive A/V 5.1 package for my bedroom; not anymore! This Logitech system kicks butt! Voices are clear and distinct, special effects (Terminator III/ The Day After Tomorrow, etc.) sounds are big and lifelike! I know, I'm missing out on surround...but I don't have much room and didn't like the idea of running wires all over the place. No, the Logitech x-230 works and works well for me! And just think, this isn't even one of its' recommended uses...I also use it with a small and very cheap portable FM player (paid 4 bucks)....when I want to listen to the radio (loud!) this is the way to go--just plug this little sucker into the headphone jack and be prepared to be amazed!!!
Customer Review: Great for the money...treble a bit weak though Summary: 5 Stars
Very good speakers for the money. These replaced some cambridge (creative labs) speakers. The sound is a lot cleaner and the sub pulls a lot more frequency. Power seems pretty consistent. No distortion when you turn it way up. The only thing is you can't turn the sub all the way up or it may distort or sound too muffled.
If you have a EQ on your computer, it will help bring up the highs which seem a little weak. Its all about your preferences. For chilling in front of you computer, these are great. If you want to bring sound to a living room or house, then these might not be the thing. If you move the speakers even slightly one direction, the sound goes a bit flat. Just remember they have to point inward or straight on toward your computer chair for the best sound.
Only complain really is the wire length to the sub. My sub is on the left side of the wall (preferred area for bass in a corner). The volume speaker is on the right which limits how far the sub can go on the floor. If your sub needs to be placed on the right hand side, then you should be okay.
