Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech diNovo Edge Keyboard (Black)Customer Review: Great HTPC Keyboard, Highly Recommend for this use! Summary: 5 Stars
So far I love this keyboard. I was using the Microsoft 7000 keyboard and mouse. No more changing batteries, and shaking the mouse to get a response ... Bluetooth is great! In my opinion, this is the BEST option for anyone looking to purchase a HTPC keyboard that has all of the mouse capabilities built in.
It's obvious that this is a sexy looking keyboard. I love black cars and various items that are difficult to clean. Consumers need to understand that certain colors/surfaces require upkeep going into the purchase. It's worth it to clean this a few times a week if necessary. It will keep it looking pretty, and should last longer if you take good care of it.
Charging is very impressive. I let it charge for about 2-3 hours. It will be a matter of time before it doesn't want to hold a charge. Hopefully that happens later than sooner ... time will tell. I haven't had this too long, but it's OK if it only lasts a few years. Technology changes so often that I will probably want something new anyways. Every consumer is different ... you just need to do a little research, self evaluation, and think about what you need/want. Take it back if it's not going to fit your bill. You should know if it's a keeper within the amount of time you have to do a return.
The TouchDisc is great for a HTPC! This was one of the main reasons that I purchased this keyboard in particular. I have tried to drag and drop files, and perform tasks that some other users have had problems with. It has passed my testing with flying colors. I can see how this keyboard would not be the best for Gamers and other such users. I assumed that a good majority of people using this would have a HTPC for the primary use. The scroll feature is a little tricky. After reading the instructions, it says that you need to press the dot in the center and slide/rotate your finger around the circle (TouchDisc) to go up/down, or left/right. At first I was trying to just swipe it. That did not work well ... about 50% of the time as someone mentioned in another review.
After following the instructions, it worked great. I was so excited when I opened the package that I didn't read anything. The keyboard wasn't even working until I remembered the On/Off switch! It's amazing how these "problems" can be fixed once you have read and "UNDERSTAND" the instructions.
Do a little Research before you buy. If you don't like it, take it back as mentioned previously. Give it a shot. If you look for problems, you will find problems ... Nothing is perfect.
There have been a lot of complaints about the location of Keys/TouchDisc in other reviews. I had a dog that would lay down in places that were inconvenient sometimes. He was always there, a little older, and we couldn't teach him at this point. What did we do? We learned to live with it and take a different path. Not a GREAT example, but I'm just trying to say that sometimes you need to get used to the way things are. With time you might even convert to liking the change! Everyone is in some respect, reluctant to change. I usually find that I like the changes even better than the original way something is done/used. Everyone should know that there is a touch pad in the bottom-right area of the keyboard. Why complain about the location? You should already know this!
The hidden function keys are cool. Darn ... you have to hit the function key to make certain keys appear. This just adds to the appeal of the keyboard in my opinion. Someone also complained about not finding the function key in the dark. Do you have to look at the keyboard when you type too? Everyone is at a different skill level of typing and familiarity with the keys I suppose. After you perform the task a few times, you will remember where the keys are!
I have never used Windows Vista, but have heard some horror stories. Logitech should probably be aware of potential issues with compatibility, but maybe it is more of a problem with Vista!
I also wonder if some complaints aren't just "Operator Errors." Hopefully all of my defending of this keyboard does not jinx the purchase! If it breaks or something else happens, I hope it's still under warranty. I have used multiple Logitech products, and never had a problem. Customer service has always been good, but you never know. You can't always give in either. If you want something done, push a little and ask for a manager. You will usually get what you want.
