Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Z-2300 THX-Certified 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer

Customer Review: Close to what I expected
Summary: 5 Stars

I will make this short and quick by listing cons and pros for the product. As for my experience, I am an audiophile and have spent a lot of money on audio equipment:
Pros:
-LOUD. Just as advertised, these can make your neighbors very unhappy
-Really nice control remote/box
-Clear output, no hum or hiss or anything like that when idling
-Clean look with removable grills
-Can be connected to any music player easily
-Cables are long enough, setup is easy
-Price for this system is REALLY attractive considering how much power you get. Just set up an equalizer with it and it will sound comparable to much higher-priced systems

Cons:
-Subwoofer weighs nearly 30 pounds
-Subwoofer is not as powerful as you would expect from a 30 pound unit or an 8' driver. At low volumes it can be magnificent and the system sounds really good. At high volumes the subwoofer gets overdriven really easily and starts distorting sound by just pumping lots and lots of air (you begin hearing air and whistling over the actual music as bass becomes really distorted and bad). This can be remedied by an equalizer and the system then sounds decent, even at high volumes.
-Requires an equalizer. As other reviews have said, by default it is lacking some mid range frequencies. Rather, it is not lacking them but they are quiet. The subwoofer also seems to have highly overdriven 125Hz frequency, which does not sound that good to the human ear for bass....hence why some people have been complaining about "boomy, loud bass". Using an equalizer to boost midrange, reduce the 125Hz, and boosting the 31Hz and 62Hz range some makes the subwoofer SHINE and the system sound balanced, clean, and have a decently high level of fidelity. The drawback of this is that the subwoofer will not be able to handle as loud volumes as before without distorting. Still, it will still be able to go around 75% of the volume with clean output....and it will still shake 2 floors and walls up and down.
-Size....the sub in this system is BIG. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ROOM.

Customer Review: Awesome Set of Computer Speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these speakers to replace a 5 year old mini shelf system. It took a little bit of research to settle on the z-2300's, but I based my decision on the reviews on here and on sites like cnet. Also, amazon had an awesome deal on these things, I picked them up for $99 with free shipping all brand new.

Once I got speakers in the mail I immediately hooked them up to my computer which was incredibly simple, just plug in both of the satellites to the sub, hook up the wired remote, and power the whole unit up. I scrolled through my itunes library and started to play a few of my favorites. Immediately I was impressed, I realized how flat my music sounded through my old stereo, and how awesome it sounded on these things.

These speakers brought tears to my eyes as I heard new details in more complicated songs and felt the accurate bass. The sub is awesome, I usually keep it around 30% power and it keeps everything well balanced. Occasionally when I feel like it though, I will crank everything up and put the volume and bass at around 60%. In a song with heavy bass this volume level will shake my whole room, and the satellites get exponentially louder too to the point where I can easily give myself a headache after a few songs.

The one thing that concerns me with these speakers is that after some heavy use the sub will start to smell faintly of burning electronics. I looked this problem up and it seems it is a common problem with the amp having to work too hard and not being cooled enough by the heat fins on the back. A simple solution to this, that I plan on doing, is to buy a small fan or hook up an old computer fan to the back of the sub to keep it cool. This is only needed if you plan on using your system at high volume for a while though.

Overall, theses speakers have impressed me in pretty much every category especially since I got them for $100. I would suggest if you find a similar deal on these things to jump on it because you will be satisfied.

Customer Review: Finnally!
Summary: 5 Stars

I guess it's all a matter of taste, but here's a point of view coming from a 56 year old who listens mostly to roots reggae(The kind with lots of deeeep bass), and the likes of P.O.D., breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach....., You get the picture. Even my daughter who is 22 can't figure me out. I've read the reviews, but was bound an determined on getting something with no less than 500 watts, and at least a pair of ten inch subs. Well, guess what? I bought these Z-2300s, and now I don't even need um. At a quarter volume with the bass knob at neutral, I was getting as much bass and volume I would ever need. At half volume, it was so loud my ears started to hurt, but the sound was still crystal clear, and the bass was as tight and accurate down to the lowest notes. I didn't think an eight inch sub was capable of room shaking bass. What ever is in that bass module works....... I have a 500 watt Pioneer surround system in my living room with an AR 15" 1000 watt powered sub the size of a coffee table hooked up through an Audio control Phase coupled Activator[(Having installed one in my car, I knew I needed one for my home as well), For those of you who don't know what these are, you're too late. I understand they don't make them any more] along with a JBL 10" 500 watt powered sub, and five JBL satellite speakers. Don't get me wrong, the system sounds great. But quite honestly, these Z-2300s are actually louder, and much cleaner sounding. I'm even considering hooking up the phase coupled activator to it, just to see how much the system can handle. But then again maybe not. I hate to ruin a perfectly good set of speakers. At $99.99 with free shipping to the island of Molokai in Hawaii, I just could not go wrong. By the way, it was here in two days via USPS. You heard correctly 2 days. Fedex wanted $135.00 for 3 day delivery, and it usually takes 5 days to get to Molokai.

Buy these speakers. No matter what it cost, it's worth it.

Customer Review: Great Sound and Easy to connect up + Desktop remote
Summary: 5 Stars

These are some of the best computer speakers I have ever owned. I got them as a Christmas present and have really enjoyed them. When I work from home, I constantly have Pandora up and running and my speakers cranked, unless I am on the phone. I can easily shake the walls and my daughters floor, above my office.

When my wife purchased the set for me, she also purchased two RCA extension cable, just in case. They came in handy. I wanted to place one of my speakers away from the subwoofer. There is also a desktop remote that I did not expect. Instead of having to get on the floor and mess with controls on the back of the sub, the remote comes up to the desk. It has a power button, a bass control knob and an overall volume knob. There is also a headphone jack. This remote was well thought out with good size control knobs.

Pros:
- Great sound and bass for the price. The bass will just blow you away.
- Speakers look nice and are not obtrusive.
- Desk top remote is GREAT!!! See above
- Very easy installation. Truly plug and play.
- THX Certified - Watch a Star Wars movie with these...very nice.

Cons:
- Lacking in mid-range, but good for computer speakers.
- Satellite speakers have the speaker wire hard-wired to the back of the speaker and an RCA jack on the other end. I would have liked to have been able to upgrade the wire to a bit more beefy wire gauge. It also means that to change the wire length, you need the female-female RCA jacks. The RCA jacks are inexpensive. I would order them with the system, just in case you need them. I would have rather had them and not needed them, than needed them and not had them.
- No extender cable for the remote

Overall, I would buy these again without any thought. I really enjoy them. The cons mentioned above would be ways to perfect an already great product, though more midrange would be nice.

Customer Review: exceded mi expectations!
Summary: 5 Stars

after trying out several other systems including creative labs gigaworks t3, bose companion 3 (both $250.00 price tag and don't even come close to this one) also tried the altec lancing MX6021 Expressionist Ultra and a couple of others i still wasn't satisfied with any of their performances bass distortion was my number one issue with all the systems i had bought tryed and then returned i had lost hope in finding a system that would meet all my expectations but after doing more research and reading tons of reviews for the logi z-2300 and btw i have never seen that extreme amount of rewiews on any product out there and most of them possitive except for the few ridiculous negative rewiews about no mids or highs wich btw isn't true at all !! someone needs to educate those people on equalization ! come on a few simple adjustments and ur done!!
bass is clean loud and undistored in other words perfect it gives u more than u'll eva need!
as far as mids and highs u get the best performance and sound by adjusting ur equalizer settings after some tweaking u'll find the sweetspot and believe me u'll be trilled !
having a sound card is a plus since they have a user interface that includes graphic equalizer and other sound effect settings.
honestly this system is by far the best 2.1 computer system i've ever heard with out a doubt! it's even better than alot off 5.1 systems outhere exept for example the logitech z-5500 5.1 wich i almost purchased instead of this one but i didn't have desk space for the extra speakers... the z-2300 2.1 was more than enough for me. i recommend the z-5500 if u r looking for a 5.1 system.

if u r looking for top sounding 2.1 system with outstanding performance, clean loud undistored bass ... this is ur best choice with out a doubt i asure u that u wont be dissapointed on the other hand this system will excede ur expectations!!
