Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with SubwooferCustomer Review: Great Product for the Price Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased these speakers about 8 months ago, and I am very pleased. The sound quality is excellent. The price is outstanding. Now my guess is you could spend +$300 for a better sound, but these speakers strike a great balance between price and performance. I have no complaints. Yes, the cone on the subwoofer is exposed, but if you keep that in mind, you should be ok.
The "matrix" setting on the speakers dilutes the base in my opinion and is pretty worthless. If you want to get expanded output out of the surround speakers, you are better off tweaking with the speaker decibel output in the software controls to increase output on those speakers. I've done that and am pleased. Make sure the surround cables are long enough for your needs by looking at the specs. I've watched some Blu-Ray and Netflix streaming movies on a 24" HD monitor and these speakers, and the experience has been a nice one. Thumbs up.
Customer Review: Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Subwoofer Summary: 5 Stars
The overall quality of sound is very good - much better than my old speakers. They're not as loud as my old ones, probably because the individual wattage of the L&R speakers is less, but they're still better. Matrix mode button on the remote basically forces 5.0 from 2.0. If someone is looking for really loud speakers they should probably get ones with more than 80 watts per channel.
The headphone jack on the volume control is kinda lame, though... the control is too light for any movement of your head/body/rolling around in your rolly chair - it just drags the volume control all over, which pulls on the cords. So I just use the jack on my tower. The L&R channel speakers could use longer cords. L channel cord barely reaches from the sub to the left side of my desk. They're about 48 inches, but the rear speakers have about 15 ft to play with and I have them on the other side of my room.
Customer Review: Great Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
Having never owned a 5.1 pair of speakers before, I was pretty intrigued by the concept for a computer and when my old Logitech 2.1 speakers finally died on me I went for these speakers instead of another 2.1 pair and haven't looked back. The bass is simply incredible for speakers this price. In the dorms I consistently have to turn the bass almost all the way down to avoid annoying my hallmates, but on a saturday nice it's nice to be able to turn up the bass to 11 and make the windows rattle. The sound is nice and crisp when you have it set up right, but don't expect the "matrix" feature to replicate actually having a 5.1 card, just go ahead and spend the $10 or so to get a real card and you'll notice the difference. Something that the packaging doesn't say is that it comes with a 3.5mm to RCA sound adapter so you can hook it up to a TV or game system. Overall it's a great system for a great price.
Customer Review: Blasted Away!! Summary: 5 Stars
This little puppy rocks!! After adjusting the volume settings on 3 remotes and devices (Yes, I am very picky), well, let's just say that I have to keep the volume down. After listening to this system hooked up to my TV for just 1 hour, I turned the system off (for testing the audible difference), and found that I could Never go back to my TV only speakers. WOW is the word! This is great for "Gadget Freaks" like myself who just want to start small and inexpensive. If you have RCA Audio Out L/R (Red & White - You will also need an AV Cable both ends male to run from included adapter to TV) jacks on your TV, this system comes with the necessary adapter to hook it up to your TV. It took me a total of 3 minutes to set it up. A Breeze! Get 'em and see what kind of set up you can come up with. Yes, I know these are PC speakers, but for what I am doing I needed them to be compatible with my TV as well.
Customer Review: Great sound, low price Summary: 5 Stars
The sound of this system is amazing for the price. The center and each satellite has two drivers each, so you have a total of 10 speakers plus the sub. Deep powerful bass and wide-range frequency response in the sats. Not audiophile but a lot for the money. Really good multichannel synthesis from a 2-channel stereo source, like a cable box or a DVD player.
The volume control could have more range to it, but if you use these as your PC sound system that's not a problem, since you can adjust volume on your sound card. There is a separate bass volume control, and a button to turn off surround sound.
I use it for watching cable and DVD playback, but it would make a dandy PC sound system as well.
At the time I purchased, they only made a 5.1 system. Check to see if they now make an equivalent 7.1 system - that would be even better.
