Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Subwoofer

Customer Review: It's what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these for a basement audio surround system knowing that they worked better on a computer system. Used it once and even with matrix mode used on a non stereo source the back speakers didn't work. Kind of disappointed but I purchased an adaptor from Logitech for them and it is much better now. Logitech 970150-0403 5.1 Game Console Audio Adapter. It gives it a stereo sound but in no way does it work as a true surround sound but it does what I want it to do and sounds good to me. The adapter is very cheap if you shop around. I found it for $3.99 plus shipping but you cannot find it in stores or at least around where I live. Would I purchase this speaker system again, oh yeah. They do get very loud and have a good sound that doesn't sound tinny or raspy if set to high. The low cost other systems out there almost always include a cd player and power the speakers. I did not want that and I can connect these speakers to any audio out source that I use (cd player, vcr, tv). I just adjust the volume on the controller and it works great.

Customer Review: Very happy with my purchase
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very happy with these speakers.

I replaced a cheap 2.1 set of speakers, and this sub-woofer is much better sounding than what I had before. Of course you could get even better sound by spending a lot more money, but I believe these are a very good value.

Remember you might need to reconfigure Windows and/or your BIOS and/or your Sound Card for a 5.1 speaker setup. When you are properly setup, you do NOT need to turn on the "Matrix" feature. That is only needed when you connect it to a simple stereo source like a video game console. Your computer will "upgrade" your stereo music to a 5.1 signal when configured correctly, so like I said, you can leave the Matrix button turned off when connected to your computer.

The only negative, as others have shared, is the CABLES ARE SHORT. Add $15 to the price to include a trip to Radio Shack for some RCA extension cables.

I am stilling giving this a 5-start rating, since I knew about the cable length issue before I bought it.

Customer Review: Superb sound
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this set in August of 2010 to replace a 2.1 system from Creative.
The sound is awesome with all genres of music.

However, today, just a bit over 3 months later, the left rear satellite
ceased to work. It is not the satellite itself. There is no signal
at the left rear RCA jack on the subwoofer. It appears that the
subwoofer unit cannot be opened to check the internal connections
and since I live in the middle of the Pacific, the cost to ship it
back to the manufacturer etc. is prohibitive.

So I will just use it as a 2-channel system which is a rather large
disappointment for me but I'll just have to live with it or trash
the whole set and go back to using headphones or buy a new set which
at the present time, is not feasible for me.

They do, however, sound just fine in two channel mode and the wired
remote is a joy to use as opposed to one located on the subwoofer or
on one of the satellites.

Customer Review: just what I needed
Summary: 5 Stars

I been looking for some surround sound for my room for a while, I was on a budget to spend under $100 for the setup and on my look out I found this and did some research and decided I wanted to buy it, I was aware it had short speakers wire so I purchased 3 extension RCA wires for the 2 back one and one left one (just my setup) it cost me less than 10 dollars for those (2 dollars each) I also bought the RCA switcher box for 7 dollars so I can plug 4 different source to this speaker (iPod, xbox and PS3 still have an extra space) and I bought the 5.1 to RCA converter for about 15 dollars, it took me about 10 minutes to set everything up since all wires have different color tops and the sound is amazing. The best part is it cost me less than 100 dollars for the setup while it may cost other people up to a thousand... Sure it might not have the best sound in the world, but it's still nice a clear and loud enough to listen to music and play games. I have it on low and I can still hear the bass from the down stairs lol

Customer Review: "It Is What It Is"
Summary: 5 Stars

For those of you who want to use this for HDTV, I suggest a "Boostaroo," from "Radio Shack." It is a 3 way splitter amplifier. It doubles the
volume of the "540" and evens out the volume between front and center
speakers. It is easy to connect. Just plug the mini plug into earphone
input, then plug the green, black and orange plugs into the splitter. Using the earphone input allows you to adjust the volume with the TV remote. Also using the splitter amplifier, makes it not necessary to use
game control adapter they sell. The splitter amplifier sells for $25.49,
and can be used to boost Ipods, MP3s, CDs or just a 3 way headphone amp.
The splitter seems to add the mids that are needed. Some of the reviews
I read, said the center speaker is to loud. You can add a volume control
to the center speaker. If any one cares, my friend has $$$$$$$ in his
surround set up and I don't hear $$$$$$$ worth of difference. Better yes,
but not for the $$$$$$$$.
