Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech X-540 5.1 Surround Sound Speaker System with Subwoofer

Customer Review: Amazing for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a bit skeptical about this set of 5.1 speakers with so many 5-star reviews. I've owned 5.1 Logitech speakers before. They were OK. They worked fine and did their job, but were just OK. I was looking at this X-540 system to replace those old 5.1 Logitechs which I accidentally broke. The price on these was good and I figured that they probably couldn't be worse than my previous ones, so I gave them a try.

I'm very impressed. VERY impressed. These are easily two or three times as good as my previous Logitechs. They actually have a slight amount of unmistakable fidelity in there. The woofer has been completely redesigned from the old model and has rather respectable, non-distorted bass. The satellites sound more clearly. The woofer and satellites integrate very well together and the 360 degree envelope is pretty convincing. For the money, I'm very impressed and satisfied. These are a great deal and perform very well in a PC gaming rig, which is what I bought them for. These are obviously not going to best a real hi-fi system (i.e. Conrad Johnson or McIntosh gear driving Dynaudio or Quad speakers) for true musical fidelity. But these speakers really stand apart from the rest of your system and make you take note as they are just such a good performer. Well done, Logitech.

Customer Review: Talk About Bang for Your Buck!
Summary: 5 Stars

I should preface this review by saying that I've worked as a salesman for such speakers as B&W, Sunfire, and Klipsch, so I know what good speakers sound like. Having said that I still love these speakers. Are they super high quality? No. Do they distort? Yes. Would I recommend them for serious listening connected with some Audioquest cables? Of course not.

But, when you want to have a 5.1 system for your computer and don't want to spend a bundle, these are hard to beat. They deliver good sound with music and movies. They come with speaker cables that are long enough for my relatively small room. All the plugs are color coded for those who are technology shy when it comes to hooking things up. And the wired control has a handy headphone jack (which I must note disables the volume control on the remote. You will have to control your volume using a software control; I use the wheel on my mouse, and it works out fine).

UPDATE: I must say that having owned these speakers for some time now that they are pretty disappointing. I still stand by my original bang-for-your-buck opinion but you would really be well served to find some better quality speakers for your computer. But if you only have a little bit of dough this set could be your answer.

Customer Review: Can't beat it.

This is an excellent surround sound system especially for the price. originally i bought this to temporarily replace my old 1000 watt system and now that i have it set up i don't think getting another is at all necessary. the sound quality is sharp and it gets pretty loud just at a quarter of the way turned up. Plus the set up is so much easier then a 1000 watt system. some people that have reviewed this say the cables aren't long enough id love to see there living rooms simply cause my living room is 20X23 (bigger than average) and I've been able to set this up very efficiently and without tripping over wires. I suppose if i wanted to get rca extension cables it's a $5 fix here on amazon, but i really don't have the need. the only thing i can really complain about is the volume control is on a wire so if i want to turn it up i gotta go to the other side of the room to do so. But i generally keep my t.v. volume at a set volume anyway so it's really not that big of a deal. the matrix button is on the volume control is amazing. i read over all the technical stuff about it and didn't understand a word, however i leave it on all the time because it makes it sound like the people on t.v. are actually there. I guess that's all i can say for now, so i guess I'll stop here.

Customer Review: Very good speaker system!!!!!

Pros: 5.1 Surround, Sound Quality, Bass quality, Price

Cons: Wired remote, length of cables

Well for the price you can't beat this system. 5.1 sound nice subwoofer all around great product. The sound quality far exceeded my expectations. Now you cant expect this system to fill a giant room but for an average size room its great. Bass really rumbles highs are clear and crisp. Only thing that was a little bit of an inconvenience was the speaker wires for the back speakers were not long enough. Would definitely recommend this system for anyone looking for great little surround sound package with BIG sound and a little budget. The remote is wired, which can be very annoying at times when the volume changes abruptly in the source and you have to get up to lower the speakers. Also, you cannot turn down the subwoofer individually. There is a bass dial, but it also turns down the bass in the other speakers. Awesome speaker system. Bottom line!

P.S. These speakers can be conntected to a HDTV or a PS3/XBOX. You will need the Logitech 5.1 Game Console Adapter

Customer Review: Fantastic Speakers!
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me just start off by saying these speakers are a great buy!
They had good sound quality and a good amount of bass. Personally I find that on my desk I do not have enough room to fit all 5 of the satellite speakers (I wish I could), but the system still works perfectly with 3 satellites. I have been putting this sound system through roughly 7 months of heavy usage (touching base on all sound ranges and frequencies). Only once had I noticed a slight feedback issue and I am assuming it was from a poor quality Pandora song because I was not able to recreate the sound. In addition I utilize this system with a gaming system and have only received the best sound output from them. These speakers are still clear and provide me with the perfect amount of bass to music ratio I enjoy!

Pros:
Durable and long lasting
Good range of sound and frequencies
Great for video games

Cons:
My only wish is that the system should have a downward firing bass driver and not a horizontal firing one.

Endstate:
The perfect speakers for the individual who likes to rock out and jam.
