Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech X-140 2.0 Speakers

Customer Review: Fantastic for under $30
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a pair of these 2 years ago because I needed some fairly cheap desktop speakers for music and movies. I was initially impressed by how loud these are. I never go past 3/4 volume because it's just too loud for my small apartment. If you're trying to fill a house with music, obviously you'd want something else, but these are plenty loud for a room or a studio apartment.

The sound is good. Keep in mind that if you want bass, you should opt for the 2.1 system instead of the 2.0. I live in a small apartment and the bass I get from these is fine. I don't even turn the bass knob all the way up, more like a little more than halfway. They sound nice and don't disturb my neighbors. I have an extensive music collection - everything from trance to death metal - and these speakers play everything pretty well, again keeping in mind that they cost less than 30 dollars.

They are heavy and seem to be quality made, since mine are still working after over 2 years. The grill on the front is actually a nice feature because it's solid and the holes are small, so nothing is going to get in and damage the speakers.

Overall I think these are a very good bargain, and I'm glad that mine are working over two years later after pretty much daily use. I've thought about getting more expensive speakers, but since these work so well it's hard to justify buying something else. If you want speakers for your computer, these are a good bet.

Customer Review: Just What We Needes.
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought a 27" Samsung HD LCD TV from Costo for use in a Kitchen. The picture is great but the speakers in the TV are horrible. At Max volume we could barely hear the thing. So we looked long and hard for external speakers that would plug into the headphone jack on the back panel of the TV. The Logitech speakers looked promising. We read the reviews and still were not convinced this was the answer, but at the price we decided what the heck, let's give em a try. We have other Logitech products that we have never had problems with.

The speakers came today and I hooked them in right away - one jack to plug into the TV - that was it - elapsed time - 20 seconds. Now bear in mind that these are not designer speakers, but they are relatively small and are barely noticeable sitting on either side on the TV. They look good. We cannot use our remote for volume control with these babies but that too is OK, given the area we are using them in (the kitchen). Now, here's the really good news.....there is a 300-400% increase in the volume we now get out of the TV using these speakers. The volume has a dial which we have at about 50% of full and that eclipses the volume from the TV speakers by about a factor of 2. There is also a base/treble knob to adjust tone. All in all, they are economical, simple, efffective, and if you don't require sophisticated sound they are easily a very wise investment.

Customer Review: Great speakers for apartment / condo dwellers.

Below are first impressions on hooking these Logitech X-140 2.0 speakers up to my computer, an internet radio, a TV and an MP3 player.

Here are the physical attributes I like. These speakers are thin with a small footprint and are easily grabbed and moved from place to place. The wire joining both speakers is heavy round cord, unusual for tabletop speakers. An attached long 3.5 mm stereo cable plugs into your computer or other source. There is no block power supply, simply a standard 2-prong AC connector. The front has two jacks- attach a stereo headphone or a stereo 3.5 mm plug from a source. The speakers angle about 65 degrees instead of straight ahead at 90 degrees, throwing sound up at your ears from the table.

These Logitech X-140 2.0 speakers produce pleasant sound. High notes come through perfectly, good for hearing-challenged older adults. The tone control actually controls the amount of bass added while not swamping or degrading the nice high notes. The speakers may be played at low volume without apparent loss- perfect for quietly listening to music or voice in apartments or condominium.

I've bought powered computer speakers in the past and have been disappointed. These are high-value, budget-priced speakers. I plan to buy a second set very soon.- Arthur.

Customer Review: excellent inexpensive speakers
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're looking for decent reasonably priced speakers for a computer system, this is a great choice. These speakers are far better (with much greater volume) than the wimpy speakers built into my laptop. The volume is not ear-shattering, but is more than adequate for most uses.

features:
1) The right speaker has two jacks (for aux input and headphone output) and two knobs (off/on/volume and tone control). If you attach headphones to the speakers, the speakers themselves are disabled and the entire signal goes to the headphones.
2) The speakers seem very sturdy. The front is covered with a mesh of metal, not fabric. The heavy plastic base that juts behind each speaker makes them quite stable, not likely to be knocked over.
3) The power cord is a simple AC plug, with no "power wart." On the other end, a wire from the speakers plugs into the computer's headphone output. No USB ports are used.
4) The three wires (to AC, to the computer, and connecting the speakers) are permanently attached. You can't carry one speaker separately from the other.
5) The right speaker has a bright orange light to show power-on. I find this light annoyingly bright if the room lights are dimmed, so I've covered it with aluminum foil.

Customer Review: Whole lot of value for just a little bit of money!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those purchases where I felt I got every penney's worth. These speakers are inexpensive but made well and with completely acceptable sound for casual listening. If, however, you are wanting really good speakers for a really good music listening experience, you need to consider a bigger purchase. As for me, I wanted the following features: 1) The off/on button right in front, no unplugging. They have a port for MP3, and a port for headsets, also right on front. They are constructed well- heavy with attractive metal, not plastic, grill in front. These aren't ugly. 2) I wanted to be able to listen to movies on my computer with decent sound, on the rare times that I do that, and to listen to anything else I need to hear on the computer (videos) and 3) I wanted them to be compact so they would fit on my desk in a space-tight room (they are about 3.5 inches across the front and about 8 inches high). These speakers are great for all of the above. For the discerning listener, however, who really wants GREAT sound and alot of bass, you simply have got to be willing to spend more- probably ALOT more. Otherwises, incredible value for the money- I was very pleased with this purchase and recommend highly!!
