Customer Review: better than the microsoft notebook 6000, mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this product for about $[...] (after rebates) from Amazon as a replacement to the Microsoft 6000 notebook mouse, and what can I say... great mouse! After reading about 200 reviews for this mouse I was concerned that it was going to be a waste. Well let me comment on some of the major items that I was concerned about:
1. "Mouse interferes with notebook's wifi card". Instead of installing the included software I DOWNLOADED SETPOINT (v4)from the Logitech website. No issues
2. "Lower that average battery life". I had the mouse for over week, used it a lot, including forgot to turn if off several times and the battery displays at 90% (103days) Assuming a linear negative trend I expect that mouse battery will deplete in approx 3Mo vs the advertised 4Mo. Have to wait and see. Once the battery dies I have plenty off AA Ni-Cd I can use.
3. "Zoom bottom is uncomfortable". Nonsense...great feature. Nevertheless I like Microsoft zoom feature better.
4. "USB transmitter falls off the mouse when stored". Again... more nonsense!
If you properly use the mouse the only way it will fall off is by accidentally pressing the eject button.
5. "Included Software is unstable". (see (1))
6. "Mouse wheel comes off/ rubber breaks..." No issues. I feel the mouse is well manufactured. looks studier than the MS notebook mouse 6000.
7 "Mouse doesn't respond after dropping it". Do I need to say more? As with all electronic equipment treat it with care.
8. "Not good for gaming". In general, you don't want to use a wireless mouse for gaming. With the "game detect" mode on, this mouse was far more superior and accurate than the MS notebook mouse 6000.
Score 4.5
Hope this helps...

***FEB 6, 09 UPDATE!
Still using it and love it!
With regards to battery life, I don't even remember when was the last time I replace the rechargeable battery!

Customer Review: Worth EVERY penny!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using the original Microsoft Ballpoint mouse since they first became available in 1991! It didn't take up a lot of real estate and, most important, felt comfortable. I did not like version 2, but I've had a steady supply of version 1 thanks to eBay.

This May, I purchased a new desktop that came with an laser optical mouse with scroll wheel. I found he mouse mice required very little room to operate, and I liked the convenience of the scroll wheel. I didn't like dragging a cord, though, so I visited a few outlets and found I liked both the VX and the VX Nano. I got Nanos for my laptops, but found nothing beats the VX for my desktop.

I love the free spin, hyperfast gyro wheel. It lets me move through screens and directories with ease.

I particularly like the SetPoint software that allows me to configure the buttons in a huge variety of ways! It's taken me months to figure out how to set the buttons, but I've finally found an arrangement that makes effective use of all 5 buttons (and pressing down on the gyro wheel is still there to be activated).

I've assigned Ctrl-W to the magnify button behind the scroll wheel; one click and my current Firefox tab closes.

The two buttons on the side of the mouse are configured to move me forward and backward one web page. (backspace and Shft-backspace).

Moving the slider down reloads the current page. (F5)

Moving the slider up resets the current page to normal font size. (Ctrl-0) This last setting corrects the mouse's one annoyance. If the gyro wheel is spinning when a web page loads, the font will sometimes be made larger or smaller than normal. This provides an easy reset.

After purchasing a VX Nano for home, I decided I liked it so much that I got one for work, too.

The more I've used this mouse, the more I like it!

Customer Review: Best full size, cordless notebook mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned one of these for well over 2 years and bought this 2nd one at my son's request to go with a new laptop computer he got for school. Small enough to fit in a laptop messenger bag, but sized more like a desktop mouse to fit your hand comfortably. I also own the larger MX revolution for a desktop machine and prefer the VX over it.

Great feel & if you want to tune its operation to specific software features (It's user selectable/context sensitive in that regard), it's very easy to set up with the included software. Very handy web navigation & office application productivity controls all of which are well positioned beneath different fingers. Battery life is outstanding compared to other cordless mice I've owned. It takes a single AA cell and it usually averages about 8 weeks on a premium brand alkaline, although it varies a bit with use & battery shelf age. I don't think I've replaced a battery in much less than 5-6 weeks and the longest one has gone has been about 10-12 weeks.

It is a right handed mouse with a clearly defined thumb rest and control set, so lefties be aware - My son is a lefty, but likes a right handed mouse, so no issue for him. Only thing that could be improved is if Logitech would supply it with a tiny USB transceiver like the VX Nano uses and if the scroll wheel mode select were more accessible. If you don't switch wheel modes often, then that "complaint" is irrelevant. The transceiver complaint is common to most cordless mice, but it'd be nice if you could use the smaller Nano transceiver (they're not compatible though). I'd definitely pony up $10.00 for a replacement if they did to avoid the risk of damaging my laptop's USB ports cramming it in the case with the transceiver hanging out (been there, done that once already).

Customer Review: Top 10 best computer add-on goodie!
Summary: 5 Stars

My first cordless mouse was a Logitech, then switched to the various wireless MS meeses, and then settled in on the latest greatest. The VX Revo' from Logitech is awe-some-ful.

All the other people having any a problem with it could have solved 99 percent of them by using a different USB port. It runs great on Vista and XP. Had issues with IE7 and scrolling slowly, that's it. Runs from anywhere in a room, even on a couch. MS mouse varieties had trouble getting away from the table. The person that said it only runs on a white table must have been looking at my MS mice. I still use my MS mice, and they run fine. A Volkswagen will get you somewhere too.

The VX is the only mouse I know of that gives programmable buttons for play/pause, multi-volume controls, zooming, next/back/forward/previous, controls for movies and music, and starting various programs that you may use the most. The scroll wheel is the bomb. One flick and you can fly to the bottom of a hundred pages, or flip it over and switch to ratchet scroll. The USB chip hides in the body of the mouse when not in use. The software will notify you when batteries are at a critical level, and one AA battery goes fooreeeveer. The laser pickup beats MS mice hands down. I put it on a glass table top and it tracked perfect. I just now put it down on the carpet and it ran perfect. Haven't tried Jello.

Great gaming mouse also, and again far lighter and trackable than my MS tank meeses. If your computer is running clean and free of trouble I would guarantee this little guy to work better than almost any other computer peripheral you've owned. I own three of these mice, and run them on XP and Vista from everywhere and performs. It is in my top ten of items I recommend and have owned on computer.

Customer Review: After 30 years, an almost perfect mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

Better than any MS mouse. (Better than any Apple mouse, but I guess no Apple people are going to be looking anyway.)

Perfectly fits my hand. Fast. Smooth. Accurate. And using the software, allows me to raise and lower volume and mute. Plus scroll sideways through long spreadsheets.

I suppose I could knock off half a star because the software doesn't allow for specific use of Windows Media Player which for me would have been handy, but for most I'm fairly sure that the combination of specifics tasks that you can make these buttons perform will make this one of the best mice you've ever used.

I haven't had any problems with the wheel, but I haven't dropped or thrown it.

And you can get these for about 40% off.

Keep your eye out for store "open box" sales. I picked up a V450 for $17 because there are still people who can't read the three lines of instruction that comes with these mice. Unfortunately, I let my wife use it, and so I had to buy another through Amazon. And then I thought that that VX looked awfully versatile for my desktop, and so when I was done, I'd spent $115 for a whole nest of mice.

A week later: I would actually give this 4 stars if I could change my rating. Why? Because the scroll wheel in either mode will not scroll one line or two lines at a time except in IE. It scrolls 10 lines at a time in Firefox and most non-MS software. It's annoying, but livable. In some ways the other Logitech mouse I reviewed is better, albeit limited in versatility.

I do wonder when engineers will figure out that not all of us actually like or use Microsoft software.
