Customer Review: The BEST portable USB mouse!

I've had this same mouse since it first came out. I can't say enough good things about it. Now, there are several other mice out in the field that also have "nano" or "micro" transceivers (in fact, I think HP has a receiver that is even smaller) but I think this mouse still stands out for a lot of reasons.
1) It's made by Logitech. Those guys know how to make pointing devices. Plain and simple.
2) I love the style and grip of the mouse. Perhaps the only knock I can give it-and it really doesn't even apply to me- is its overall size vs. large hands. I like the grips on each side and the contour. It doesn't strain my wrist even after a long period of use.
3) Battery life. Since getting this mouse, I've changed the two AAA batteries only TWICE. Folks, that's a long time.
4) The user-configurable forward- and back- page buttons on the left leading edge of the mouse. Very nice to have.
5) It comes with a really neat little zipper pouch made of breathable material.
6) It DOES track rather nicely on just about any surface.
7) They hyperscrolling function of the center wheel. Plus the wheel can switch from ultra-smoot scrolling to the standard scrolling with stops.
8) The nano transceiver can be stored inside the battery compartment underside the mouse. What's neat is there is a little button that quickly ejects the mouse out from storage for your use. But then...I have never put it back in there because I leave it on the laptop at all times and forget about it. It's like the transceiver is part of the laptop.
9) There is a user-definable Search button under the scroll wheel. Again, you only need Logitech's software to change what this button does.
19) It just looks good as a mouse. No funky shapes, colours ,etc.
This mouse is truly plug 'n play. You don't even NEED Logitech's software unless you want to take full advantage of the button configurations and other power user utilities.
Okay, probably the only big knock on this mouse would be its price. I got mine for $30 but that was a long time ago and under specific circumstances. Cost aside, this mouse is totally worth it. Very reliable and easy to set up and use.

Logitech did a wonderful job on this one! I never cared for their mice before, and always went w/ Microsoft. But Logitech has Microsoft beat hands down on this one. Not only is it smooth, very accurate, and very comfortable to work with (unless you have large hands -- some men may not like it), but it can be used for left or right-handed folks. I won't go into technical details here, as the details and specs on this site are very accurate and complete. But I just want to say that having *THE* SMALLEST USB receiver in the world is just awesome! Since my laptop sometimes actually does sit on my lap rather than a desk, there is no long USB stick to interfere or get knocked around. And if you have a laptop w/ the USB ports on the side or front, you know how annoying that can be! With this one, it barely even sticks out of the machine! I just love this mouse in every way! In fact I just ordered another one for another computer in our house. I am not sure if having the same two mice will interfere with each other, because I discovered that this wireless mouse actually even works from 3 rooms away! So the range is pretty long. But I will post an update when I try two of them in the same room.... (TBC)

Well we now have 4 of these in our house -- I loved this so much I bought one for everyone's notebook! There is absolutely no interference from one to another either. One will not work on the other's receiver, so we have no problems all being in the same room! Another thing to note is, since I started using this (and got rid of my big clumsy mouse), my aching arm & hand no longer hurt!! This is so ergonomic and comfortable to use!
I did find, however, that this mouse does not work with a PS/2 adapter on my PS/2-only KVM switch. I am still trying to figure out a fix, but if someone knows of one, please post!! I really don't want to give up this mouse in order to use my KVM switch that I need to control 3 desktop systems. And as much as I love this mouse, I really can't have 3 of them on my desk. :) Other than that, this still the greatest mouse I've ever owned. It is a nice size for my kids too (ages 4 & 6).

Leopard and Snow Leopard come with drivers that recognize this mouse natively. You can assign Expose' and Spaces to any of the buttons other than the main button, which makes it extremely fast to navigate between programs and spaces. The size of the mouse is an excellent compromise between tiny notebook mice and heftier desktop mice, it's big enough that you can get a good grip on it, but not so big that it's hard to haul around in a slender laptop case (I have a 13.3" Macbook, I certainly don't want to haul around a case the size of a suitcase just to fit my mouse into it!). It does require a slightly different technique compared to a big desktop mouse -- you must rest your palm *behind* the mouse and let your fingers embrace it, rather than resting your palm *on* the mouse. Once you get used to that it feels natural. The hyperwheel has worked flawlessly for me since I bought the mouse over a year ago, one click and I can whiz back and forth at high speeds. The two buttons on the front left are activated by sliding your left finger sideways to the correct button. I've assigned those to Spaces and Expose, since I can activate those buttons by just moving my finger whereas the center button requires lifting my hand to get to it. The tracking works well on every surface I've tried it on -- my glossy kitchen table, my beat up computer desk, the laminate surface of my office workspace at work, it all works and is fairly accurate. I do notice that occasionally lint builds up in the bottom and I have to blow it out to make it track accurately again.
Logitech has a new mouse, the Anywhere MX, which moves the two buttons down to where the thumb should be able to activate them and which supposedly tracks even better on odd surfaces. I'll have to check that one out. All I will say is that I've tried a bunch of mice, and Logitech seems to be "the" leader when it comes to mice today. This mouse is a winner. Sorry, Apple, your Mighty Mouse and Magic Mouse are pretty but simply don't compare, and as for the Kensington and Microsoft offerings, don't make me laugh.

This is a fantastic notebook mouse. The nano receiver lives up to the hype, I haven't had to remove it from my laptop in the 3 months I have had the mouse. I commute to work with it every day, including using my laptop on the train and putting it in and out of my snug bag at least 6 times a day. The sensitivity and responsiveness of the "laser" technology is far superior to the older "optical" technology.
There is no lag-time in the mouse, either with turning it on, or with using it after it has been idle (unlike many other mice, including most if not all bluetooth mice). I have bluetooth connectivity in my computer, but I still prefer this mouse to any bluetooth mouse. It has withstood being brought with me on my commute in my bag every day, and still looks and works like it is brand-new.
The roller wheel is very cool, and I have gotten so used to it, that I now want to replace my home computer's mouse. To the reviewer who mentioned that it stops free-wheeling after a while: This feature is toggled on/off by firmly pressing down on the wheel.
The mouse is notebook-mouse small, but doesn't bother me a bit, and I have large hands (I am 6'5"). I like the form-factor and the symmetry.
The battery life is surprisingly good, and I am still on my first battery after 3 months of use, several hours a day, without having to frequently turn the mouse on and off. It is nice that it uses normal batteries. The included software tracks the battery life for you, so you won't have any dead-mouse surprises.
In summary, this has been one of my favorite recent purchases, and I would recommend it to anyone, as several of my family and coworkers can attest to!
UPDATE:
This is still my favorite mouse after almost 2 years of use. In fact, I bought 2 more for use at home, and all of them work perfectly. I like it considerably better than the new Apple MagicMouse that I tried with both my laptop and my iMac. This is still one of my favorite purchases!

The receiver is really why I bought this mouse. It's really great to have it to always be plugged in on my laptop. Logitech should think about selling them separately as I'd like to leave them plugged in on all my laptops.
Although the mouse is about 1/2 to 3/4 size of a typical mouse, it's still quite comfortable / ergonomic. It also uses 2 AAA batteries, so it's definitely lighter than the rechargable or AA varieties.
The most important issue is always performance and, as most Logitech items, this performs well. Moving the mouse does move the pointer smoothly and as expected -- no jumping around, etc. Clicking the buttons always registers.
I've had several wireless devices where they just did not perform well (eg, the receiver didn't pick up the signal or the driver was not light enough to respond quickly). In this regard the device is flawless.
The sliders under the mouse are placed at a slight angle. If you've ever had problems with your sliders, you'll know why this is important:
1> it will last longer (eg, wear through)
2> it will glide on the table more smoothly (eg, less friction)
3> junk is less likely to get stuck to it
The above just shows that Logitech is hiring some very good, thoughtful engineers to design their products.
The Hyper scrolling is really useful. I'm not one for reading directions, so I didn't even know about it until playing around with it for a day or two.
This is the second logitech mouse I own (I have the Wave Keyboard/Mouse combo) and they're both very quality items. Find one of the products that you like the feel of and and I think you'll always be happy with it's quality/performance.
The only downside of this device are the two buttons on the right side, which are a bit hard to use. I probably wouldn't use them anyway (as far as buttons, I'm of the opinion that less is better -- my hands are on the keyboard most of the time).
