Having just bought the Logitech MX Revolution mouse for my Mac
Pro, I was sort of sceptical about buying the VX Nano for my
Macbook Pro notebook.
I had some very negative issues about Mac support with the Logitech
MX. Many of the functions (including search and advanced scrolling)
would not work on the desktop.
I went ahead anyway and purchased the VX Nano for my Macbook Pro.
When it arrived, I was pleased to find that it was quite compact
and very comfortable in my hand. This didn't look anything like
the cheaply made notebook mice I had used in the past.
Though the box does indicate that this mouse is Mac OS X compliant,
one would not know it by the software provided. As is always the
case with Logitech product, the CD that is provided in the package
only includes Windows drivers. Mac users (who Logitech doesn't like)
have to go through their website to find the Logitech Control Center
installation file.
The best part of this mouse is its tiny USB receiver. What has
been claimed by Logitech is actually true -- you plug it in your
USB port and forget about it. The USB hub becomes almost invisible
after installed. The mouse runs on two "AAA" batteries.
The mouse works wonderfully on my Macbook Pro. I was actually able
to go into the Logitech Control Center and assign it specific search
functions. I press a button and GOOGLE or YAHOO search comes up. I
can also program it if I wish to bring up FINDER.
I found the mouse to be very responsive on an ordinary tabletop
taking away the need to have a mouse pad. The scroll wheel works
extremely well. A simple roll of the wheel can get you from top
to bottom of page in seconds. Also a huge plus is the fact that
this mouse automatically powers itself off when not in use.
The only thing missing here is a travel pouch. For some reason I
had thought one would be included. Despite the fact there was none,
I was able to neatly pack the mouse in my laptop bag.
I have owned a wide array of Logitech products including their
top-of-the line keyboards, webcams and mice. None of them have
worked perfectly with Mac. Logitech is just not a mac-friendly
company. This is the very first product I have bought from them
that actually works perfectly under OS X.
I highly recommend the Logitech VX Nano for anyone that wishes
to ditch their trackpad for the comfort of a mouse.

Logitech says that their products are designed to move you, and this mouse sure lives up to that promise. Seconds after opening the beautifully packaged box, I was up and running and you can do it too. The instructions tell you everything you need to know, from how to put in the batteries (2 x AAA, included), how to turn it on (power button on the bottom), and where to insert the Nano receiver (USB port). For more features, Windows users can install the software included, and Mac users can go get the download.
Installation takes quite a few minutes, but once that's over, your mouse gets super powers, and can scroll from side to side (perfect for those extra wide pages), help you search the internet with the push of a button, and also navigate backwards and forwards between internet pages. How cool is that?
Here's all the OTHER good stuff about the VX Nano:
1. It's cordless
2. It's compact and cute, and oh so ergonomic (at least for small hands)
3. The MicroGear Precision Scroll Wheel (fancy name for the wheel thing between the buttons that you scroll with) has two modes: Hyper-Fast, for when you need to scroll down long documents at warp speed, and Ratchet, for when you don't have a long, long way to run. You switch between them by simply pressing down on the wheel. (Tilting the same wheel left or right gives you the side by side scrolling once you've installed the software)
4. There's a LED light to tell you when your batteries need changing
5. There's a compartment at the bottom of the mouse to store the Nano-receiver securely. Alternately, you can just leave the little thing attached to your notebook USB port.
6. The package includes a nice Logitech zippered case to keep your mouse snug as a bug in a rug.
7. You can use it on your desktop machine too. It comes with an "extension cord" that you plug into the USB port of your CPU, and insert the Nano-receiver into the little gizmo at the other end, and you're all set. I didn't even have to evict the regular mouse that was already living on my mouse pad.
Believe me, after you've gone Nano you'll never want to go back to cords again.

Customer Review: Worth it just for the one button search alone!

I have always been a big fan of Microsoft branded mice; probably because I got used to them early on and never thought about it. Okay, so maybe it was more because I'm one of those people who doesn't like to change things, especially when they aren't broken per se. Why spend money needlessly? I have a nice Microsoft mouse for my laptop, the kind where the ~2 inch USB receiver is secured neatly underneath the mouse when you're done with it. Why change? But one day, I came across a review for the new VX Nano...
When I first read the review on the VX Nano, two things appealed to me immediately. The first was the one click search button. I bet I right-click/copy hundreds of keywords every month to search in Google. By utilizing this single feature, now I just highlight the word(s) and click the button, instantly opening a new window/tab for Google and performing an immediate search. This has saved me so much time!
The second feature that appealed to me was the miniature USB receiver. The USB ports on my laptop are on the right side, about 1-2 inches from the back. The Microsoft receiver sticks out about 2 inches or so from the side, which sometimes causes problems. If I have another USB device to plug in, it is a bit awkward since the ports are so close together. Some of my older USB thumb drives are rather bulky, so I have to either use a USB cable or unplug the Microsoft mouse in order to use them. However, all of these pains were addressed with the tiny receiver Logitech provides with the VX Nano. You can either leave it plugged in all the time, or tuck it away inside the battery compartment. Genius!
The hyper-scroll fly wheel is really remarkable, too; this is something that didn't appeal to me until I started using the mouse. I do wonder how resilient it will be over the years (clicking to switch b/w scroll and hyper mode).
So, my Microsoft mouse is now sitting in a drawer and my VX Nano is endearing me to it more and more every day. It was worth every penny!
One small note on the hyper-scroll clicking: I couldn't get it to work at first. I thought I was pushing the button hard enough, but it would never change modes. Finally, I pushed harder (in a bit of frustration) and there was an actual clicking sound, similar to using a click pen. I was being a bit too cautious and simply wasn't pushing the button hard enough. However, that is the reason for my comment above about the longevity of this button.

After owning a Microsoft 4000 Series Notebook Mouse for over a year.. I came up with this great piece of hardware.. Some of my dislikes from the Microsoft Notebook Mouse, was the long/flimsy USB Receiver... Which ended up being kicked or pushed around or tangled with anything.. And also the poor Range of the mouse.. For example if I had my Laptop on a small table on my left and I was laying in bed, I couldn't use the mouse on my right (Meaning My Body in Between the Receiver/Mouse) without issues...
So anyways I was initially going to get the Logitech VX Revolution, which is a really good mouse, but then I saw this one, and the first thing that attracted me was that Tiny Little (Nano) USB Receiver, Which meant already Half of my dislikes with my previous notebook mouse were going to be Solved... The next thing was to give it a Try so I bought it through Amazon..
I couldn't be happier, The mouse feels great in my hands, is very very responsive.. I actually game with it without problems, The Laser is very sensitive, the Range is Great.. It's almost like a bluetooth connection, and the Receiver can be left plugged in my laptop even in an opposite USB Slot, and have no Lag or Response problems...
I trully recommend it for anyone, not only notebook computer users, since it also brings an USB Extension which allows Desktop users to have the receiver plugged in closer to the mouse. It offers PinPoint Laser precision, lots of features, The Scroll Wheel rocks.. If I want to play games I switch to Precise Scrolling for changing weapons, and for web-browsing I switch to FreeSpin mode (Which has me spoiled) :)
This VX Nano also has a nice weight, it's not feather light, and it's not seriously heavy either.. It offers a good balance.
Regarding Battery life, well I've had this mouse for about a Month now, and the battery level is at 85% still...
The SetPoint Logitech software that came with it hasn't given me any problem, and it lets me play with some of the mouse settings.. The only thing that could have been improved was more customizing settings for each of the mouse buttons, since not all of the options are the same for each button.
I am completely satissfied with my purchase, It's better than what I was expecting.

Wow! When I ordered the new Logitech VX Nano portable mouse, I wasn't expecting anything that much more than the one I already had, but was I wrong. This mouse is very comfortable to use, very well designed with well thought out controls, and feature rich.
First off, this mouse fits well under the hand with long left and right buttons that lie under your fingers naturally, the scroll button is so smooth and effortless, there are two fast scroll buttons next to the left button for quick and up and down action, and a feature I really like is a separate button for scroll lock so you don't accidentally go into scroll lock while performing a normal scroll action. The overall ergonomics are fantastic with comfortable, but grippable panels on each side that thumb and small finger gravitate to naturally.
The battery compartment also holds the nano receiver, and the nano receiver is tiny, barely bigger than the USB port male plug. The nano receiver is advertised as something so small that you can plug it into your laptop and leave it there for whenever you use the mouse. This is true, it fits in the back USB port of my Sony laptop and the back panel still closes allowing my to dock without removing the receiver. The mouse itself comes with an on/off button so that the mouse can be deactivated while the nano receiver is plugged in, but the mouse is not in use; this saves on battery and prevents a mouse loose in you carry bag from interacting with the laptop while it is on.
This mouse also comes with an adapter for desktops that can be plugged into the computer and then provides a convenient place to plug in the nano receiver near the keyboard. (This could be handy for some, I don't personally need it, but I can see how some would find it a great addition to the package.
Also included with the VX Nano is a nice zippered mesh carrying case and set of AAA batteries to get you started.
I love this mouse and will be giving my old portable mouse away to a friend soon.
