Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech V470 Bluetooth Cordless Laser Mouse (Blue)Customer Review: Can't get mouse to fully work on my laptop Summary: 5 Stars
(I initially gave this 5 stars, then came back a few weeks later to edit this post but cannot change the number of stars. I now give it 1 star).
I have been using this mouse for a few weeks now on a Vista-running HP dv9500t. Initial recognition via bluetooth was difficult, but I think that was mostly due to trying to get the laptop-end of the communication to work. After a little troubleshooting, I turned off the automatic passkey requirement, and it instantly recognized the mouse. However, after about a month of use, my stopped fully recognizing the mouse. It partially recognizes it (I know this is strange, and I can't explain it). It can only serve up basic mouse functions. The "programmable" features aren't available. I can no longer adjust pointer speed. It seems that the Logitech SetPoint software won't let me adjust any settings (the "my mouse" tab is missing). Logitech tech support wasn't much help, only saying that there is a compatibility problem between the bluetooth drivers in my laptop and the setpoint software, but they couldn't fix the problem. The mouse and all of it's features worked fine for a few weeks when I first purchased. I've tried everything - reinstalling drivers, updating drivers, "restore" rollback, reinstalling SetPoint software. None of these have worked. Rather than spending a dozen more hours troubleshooting, I'm giving up and buying a Non-bluetooth mouse.
During the first few weeks when the mouse was working, I found that the mouse pointer was a little jumpy, but it only jumped after it was at rest for several seconds. I think it's due to some power-saving feature where it places itself in a rest mode. Movement awakens it, but after a small delay. I would say this "jump" is best detailed approximately as a 1/5th-second sluggish delay, followed by a jump to a position it predicts it would be at if there were no delay, equating to a distance of about 1/8-1/2 of the display width, depending on speed. It didn't bother me too much, since I don't do detailed CAD or image-editing.
Customer Review: A perfect compliment for the MacBook Summary: 5 Stars
I don't read user's manuals. As far as I'm concerned, if I have to spend time reading a manual then the product has not been designed well. Apple has prided itself on designing products that "just work". You don't have to know how. You don't even have to care!
This is not an Apple product, of course, but Logitech also prides itself on designing easy to use, easy to set-up products. And this bluetooth mouse is a perfect example!
Packaging (5 seconds) - Hard to open packaging is one of my pet peeves. When I took the package out of the Amazon box, I thought "Oh, no. I'm going to have to get the utility knife to get this thing open." But, Logitech had perforated the plastic so all I had to do was gently pull the package apart! Great job, Logitech!
Setup (30 seconds) - I installed the batteries, powered up my MacBook into OSX 10.5 Leopard, turned the switch on the bottom of the mouse to on, pushed the "connect" button, selected the device in the Mac bluetooth manager, and voila! The mouse was up and running perfectly. 30 seconds max! Then I shut down my MacBook, restarted in Windows Vista, and did the same thing. 30 second set-up max!
Aesthetics and Portability - This thing looks great and feels great in my hand! It is just the right size for a laptop mouse. It fits perfectly into my InCase 13" MacBook case along with the Apple power supply. Just switch it off and stow it for long battery life.
Using it (a pleasure) - This mouse works great! What more can I say? It glides easily over almost any surface. The tracking is precise and smooth. Contrary to some reviews, it only take a split second to wake from "sleep", which saves TONS of battery power. The buttons and scroll wheel are well placed and accessible. The rubber feel provides a wonderful grip.
Summary - For Mac users: Buy it! For PC users: Buy it!
Customer Review: It just keep on working Summary: 5 Stars
Let me add to the people who really love this mouse. I've had a couple of wireless mice before and had a problem with speed. I like a mouse which moves a long distance with very little movement of the mouse. This is the only mouse I've found where the max level is too fast for me. I also like to program the wheel click for "copy" command. This mouse can be set to any command you can do with keystrokes. I work a lot with spread sheets and do a lot of pointing and clicking. With other mice I've found that sometimes clicking the wheel will move the pointer off of it's target with unwanted results. I do not have this problem with this mouse. It moves quickly to where you point and stays there.
The size is slightly smaller than a regular mouse but not so small as to be a problem with a lot of use. I bought this mouse about a month ago because I was taking a language class and had to use headphones with my computer. Well the wires between the headphones and the mouse were always tangled. I no longer have that problem.
It also has excellent battery life. I'd tell you how long but I put 2 batteries in a month ago and I am still using them. I started to turn my mouse off in the beginning but after a couple of days I just forgot about it and I leave it on all the time now. I work on spread sheets about 8 hours a day as well as searching the web, so my mouse is always busy.
Last month I visited a friend with bad TV reception. I connected my computer to his TV and downloaded TV shows from the web and projected them on his TV. I sat across the room using my mouse against my leg to point and click my computer. It saved me from walking over to the computer every time I needed to use the mouse.
I like it so much I bought a second mouse for my wife for her computer.
Customer Review: Great Bluetooth Mouse for Mac Desktop & Laptop Summary: 5 Stars
I find it much easier to use a mouse than the trackpad so I bought this and a Kensington Si670m to test out and after 6 months, this Logitech mouse is the best one.
First, it's got nice side rubber-like grips that have not soiled or worn down after 6 months of heavy, heavy use - the mouse is incredibly lightweight even with batteries installed - so of course, it's no strain at all to move and roll around.
For Mac users, there are NO drivers or anything to install. Simply launch your BLUETOOTH PREF to "discover" this device. Then simply press the "CONNECT" button on the mouse and it's done. What's great is in that in 6 months of use, I have NEVER had to "re-discover" this device unlike the idiot Kensington mouse that loses its connection even when the computer is just asleep. Even if you turn it off to save battery, when you wake the Mac, it lets you know the mouse is disconnected but if you power the mouse back on, it takes a few milliseconds before you see the icon for this mouse and you are ready to go.
It should also be noted that it is ALSO GREAT on battery life. I use the mouse ALL DAY long and after 6 months, I finally had to change the bateries ... I had the change the Kensington batteries like every 4 weeks, not even a month! So, even though this mouse is actually cheaper, you will save even more money on batteries (or on recharging battery swapping).
It is a little on the small side but if the tradeoff is weight and battery life, all good.
And the optical sensors are GREAT on this thing. I actually will just roll it around on my bedspread and it works just fine - and one day, it was freezing so I actually set it below my blanket and it worked just fine - so, pretty great bluetooth mouse. I bought a couple more.
Customer Review: Excellent design, reliable, and nicely-sized B-tooth mouse! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this mouse to replace an aging Kensington bluetooth mouse, and to do the duty of a far-lesser "pretender to the throne", an iGo Stowaway bluetooth mouse, and I couldn't be happier. This mouse has great feel, great contours that fit the hand well, and the best part: its bluetooth link is super-reliable, essentially never needing re-pairing with my computer. I have had other bluetooth products with far less reliable radio links, and that grows quite frustrating after a while.
This Logitech is very easy on batteries, but it still gives very precise, accurate pointer control (also frustrating when it's lacking, which is often the case with wireless mice) without being fussy about radio linking. This mouse is one of the few bluetooth ones that I would strongly recommend; wireless mice are tricky to do well, and bluetooth ones are even trickier, and they are newer to be widely accepted. Logitech has pretty much nailed it with this mouse.
Many other wireless mice (both bluetooth and the standard RF/USB types) lack a dedicated on/off switch on the bottom, but Logitech put one into this mouse, which is another feature I really like. Call me a dinosaur, but I like to turn it off when finished for the day and KNOW it's off, not just "hope it figured out to sleep" on its own! Further, because this mouse does not rely on deep-sleep to conserve batteries (it doesn't need to), it's much faster to reawaken after a long pause in the action. You will find that this subtle but important point really matters if you compare the operation of this mouse to the very "sleepy" ones out there.
If you spend lots of time on the computer as I do, you need a good wireless mouse -- Buy this one (if you're a bluetooth person) and you will not be disappointed!
