Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers (Black)Customer Review: Excellent for what they're meant for Summary: 5 Stars
I don't think i've ever been moved to write a product review before, but i love these things. They're the perfect addition to a laptop. No bothering with a transformer and a bunch of wires...you can plug in just one, if you're working with mono or both if you need stereo. Run off USB power. Plug it in and go. The carrying case is cool, they're light (and if you want really light, just take one), the sound is pretty good (though obviously this isn't audiophile stuff), and they can get loud. Decent bass for something this size and price range. You'll get some distortion if you drive them too hard, so don't. I use my laptop for a lot of digital audio editing, and i picked these up to help teach a class on editing, and i really needed a way that the class could hear what we're doing, and these fit the bill perfectly...be nice to have a tone or bass adjustment, but that's no big deal (you can use an equalizer on the cptr). Overall, a great product. One funny thing...if you have them loud, on the right surface, playing something with a lot of bass, they'll wander around like those clay-mation figures...set them on a magazine and you're fine...
Customer Review: Great speakers for a laptop. Fantastic Value!!! Summary: 5 Stars
After reading some of the reviews, I was very skeptical when I bought these speakers--I almost didn't buy them! The speakers that came on my laptop were very weak, and barely audible at times--with no hardware glitches. Making listening to music or watching DVD's an almost worthless exercise in futility.
On connecting these speakers (wire lengh was NOT an issue with me), I found that the quality of sound from these speakers to be a pleasant surprise! The depth of sound is incredible (from such small boxes), and rivals that of dedicated sound systems.
Tones are crisp and clear, with good differentiation and clarity. The only con (if you can call it that) is that at very high volumes, the bass seems to crackle a bit. However, if you are listening at that level, your hearing is in jeapordy.
All in all, a good, PORTABLE, value for an addition to a laptop!
If you are an audiophile, you might be disappointed with ANYTHING less than concert quality. Since the rest of us live outside a concert hall, these speakers will do nicely!
Customer Review: Great portable USB speakers... Summary: 5 Stars
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 laptop, whose sound output left much to be desired. I bought the Logitech 970155-0403 V20 Notebook Speakers to watch TV shows, movies, music videos and instructional videos online.
Overall assessment is that these speakers serve my purpose VERY WELL. The speakers enhance the laptop's sound dramatically. I like the fact that the speakers connect to the laptop through a USB port. The speakers have a good form factor, which makes them easily portable.
The only downside (and it is only a very minor one) is that if the laptop is put in Standby mode and then turned on again, the volume controls on the laptop fail to control the speakers' volume (this issue is easily solved by using the speakers' volume controls, that are conveniently positioned, on top of one of the speakers). Once the laptop is rebooted, the problem goes away. There may be a way to fix this, but I have not spent time on it.
All in all, I am very pleased with the sound quality, portability and convenience of the speakers.
Customer Review: Buy Now - end of July 2008 Summary: 5 Stars
There are no better PC/Laptop "value" speakers available right now....buy while the $40 rebate is available...and the net price is about $10!!!
These are nice sounding speakers and come with a carrying case. They sound good, not great, compared to other speakers in the $50 price range. With the rebate and a net price of $10 these speakers can't be beat. The convenience of the USB connection works great for a desktop or a notebook. This helps to reduce the need for another wall wort and with your notebook you can power these while away from the wall power. However, be warned that being powered off the USB does have a disadvantage....it must share power with other devices connected into the computer and at high volumes the speakers cut out and or get scratchy. Also, if your laptop is looking to power down (with Vista) the speakers will make scratchy sounds....the simple solution is to put your notebook on "always on" for the power setting and you will lose some battery life but your sound is good.
Customer Review: Surprisingly good sound; well-designed, too Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical about all the positive reviews that these speakers have received. But they've really surprised me. They provide very crisp notes in the mid and upper range. The bass won't shake the floorboards or anything, but it's a big step up from those built-in speakers on your laptop. All in all, these provide excellent sound, especially for their size.
The speakers are well designed and well made, too. The traveling case that comes with them is of surprisingly high quality. I'm very pleased with the overall value.
One downside: because these are USB speakers, some of the special sound settings (like SRS WOW) may not work in all programs; it seems to depend. Some programs seem to support the USB interface, but not all do. Still, I'll take the simplicity of USB over this minor drawback. It's really nice not to worry about a power adapter and plug. And USB 2.0 provides sufficient power to crank up the volume quite high.
An excellent product!
