Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech V20 Notebook Speakers (Black)Customer Review: Great... Summary: 5 Stars
These Logitech speakers work GREAT!! They look much better than the picture online shows also, I was very pleased with all the features of this speaker set. The carrying case is also very nice, it comes in a hard type of black material which is like a combonation of silk and velvet and inside these speakers are housed. Theses speakers instantly hook up with no problems, there is only one adapter that it comes with and you DON'T have to plug this to a wall outlet.
The adapter plugs right into the port on your notebook and will work with any notebook computer that you own. There is a cool blue light on the top of the speakers when they are on and as soon as you plug it in you will see this light. If the light is red that means that it is on mute and you can adjust it from the top of the speaker but most likely when you plug yours in it will be automatically blue. You have a play, stop, mute, fast foward, rewind button and speaker volume adjustment on the top of the main speaker that plugs into the adapter. Only one speaker plugs into the adapter, the other speaker just goes right into the side of the other speaker. There is a port on the speaker for you to plug the other one in.. I had this plugged and playing in less than a minte with no problems at all, a child can hook it up.
The volume range is excellent and can filll a large room full of loud clear music. No, this speaker set will not fill your whole house full of blasting music but it will do about the maximum of what your desktop can perform as far as sound. I have a Dell desktop which has the side speaker set manufactured from Dell and I consider it very loud, my neighbors can definitely here the music turned up 70%-100% of the way on that one. With these speakers the sound is about the same and can fill a large room full of loud clear music.
All of that being said I think these speakers are of pretty good value, the price is a little steep for these speakers because it will not feel your entire home full of blasting loud music but it does feel a large room and I think it is quite loud. I don't know if there are any speakers that can perform louder than these Logitech speakers because they are pretty loud... but I do think that these would be perfect for anyone looking for louder and clearer speakers to perform like a desktop and MUCH better than notebook speakers in general.
These speakers also have a nice weight to them, in the picture you can't see exactly the detail and weight of these speakers, they are not light as a feather but sturdy . They have a good weight to them and also look better than pictured!
I have to give a quick shout out to all of the reviewers before me that helped me to decide on these exact speakers and I am returning the favor, by leaving a review myself, so that other people can see just how good they are.
Customer Review: Great sound, size & case! Summary: 5 Stars
The carrying case is hard-shelled - 10/5" x 7.5" x 2". Very nice, not cheap. Speakers are 6.5" tall, 3" wide and 1.5" deep. I found the cord to be plenty long; 36" cord between speakers, 22" cord from right speaker to USB port. The buttons do take getting used to - absolutely no tactile feedback. Maybe this is the biggest drawback of these speakers, but it only takes a day or two to get used to them. There's Play/Pause, Stop, Prev Track, Next Track, Vol Up, and Vol Down buttons - all work seamlessly with WinAmp & Win Media Player for tunes & movies. There's also a mute button that changes a little blue light to red when muted.
I use these at work to listen to mp3's, ShoutCast and other streaming music. I love that I can plug them into my work computer and they instantly work without monkeying around with drivers or anything - keeps IS off my back. They rival a midrange set of desktop speakers. Boy can they crank the sound! You really gotta turn them up to a ridiculous level to get distortion. I'm very pleased at the performance given their size and the fact that they're powered via USB.
As some of the other reviewers noted, they've got surprisingly heavy bass response. Even at a relatively low volume, they were vibrating around my desk. I used a little of that gummy-glue stuff to stick them down. I also used the equalizer in WinAmp to adjust them to my tastes and toned down the bass a little bit to let the midrange and highs get through. The weakest part of these speakers is the midrange, but even so I'm still very pleased. I consider myself about 30% audiophile - so unless you're really looking for top performance (in which case you shouldn't be shopping for USB powered speakers) consider these a gift from the Gods - especially at Amazon's price! I wouldn't pay BestBuy retail ($80) but at Amazon's price, it's a great deal!
These suit my needs great, and I definitely recommend them if you want to watch movies or listen to tunes on your laptop.
UPDATE: After using these for over a year now, I've come to appreciate their quality even more. I can listen to music at a moderate and enjoyable level, yet the sound stays localized somehow... I can have them turned up to where I can hear the music very well as I sit 18" away, but 10 feet away you can barely hear them. Of course, you can crank them and they can be heard quite well from a distance. If you've got speakers that don't afford you the ability to listen without bothering your coworkers around you, these might be your ticket.
Customer Review: Really nice laptop speakers Summary: 5 Stars
These speakers produce an excellent sound with my Macbook. I have read some of the negative reviews, and have not experienced any of the problems mentioned, such as the speakers not being recognized by the computer. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised that my Macbook immediately recognized these speakers even though I attached the USB plug on the speakers to a 7 port USB hub, which in turn is "daisy chained" to another 7 port USB hub that connects to my Macbook(I have lots of stuff). Some electronic devices have difficulty being recognized when using a USB hub instead of connecting them directly to the computer; and "daisy chaining" one hub off of another hub just compounds the problem. But for these speakers there was no issue.
Other reviews have complained about a popping sound, but all I ever hear is music with a nice clear and crisp sound.
I have the following comments:
1. These speakers are not a substitute for a stereo system. There is no subwoofer, and the range of bass and treble is not as far reaching. If you need a pronounced bass, then neither these nor any laptop speakers will satisfy you. However, the sound is more than adequate compared to a stereo system, and excellent for laptop speakers.
2. The speakers come with a nice case and are very easy not only to transport, but also to set up. Just put the USB cable into your computer or a hub, and the audio cable into the back of the speaker that has a receptacle for it. Make sure you push the audio cable in all the way; it's easy not to do so (as I did during initial setup), in which case there will be no sound from that speaker.
3. The speakers each have a little stand at the bottom that extends about three inches to keep the speakers upright. Just keep that in mind in case you want to set up in a tight space.
4. The speakers cannot be placed more than about two feet apart (mine are on either side of a 22 inch monitor that I use with my laptop) because the USB and audio cables are short. There really should be no need for longer cables, though you can always buy a USB extender and audio extension cable if necessary.
5. The speakers do not take up a lot of space on the desktop, look nice, and have easily reachable volume controls on top of the right speaker if you want to control volume from the speakers instead of your laptop.
I think that these speakers are a quality product, perform well and provide a nice music listening experience where portability and small size are important.
Customer Review: Best notebook speakers!! Summary: 5 Stars
In many of the reviews for these speakers, some seem to have forgotten that these are speakers for your notebook, not stationary PC speakers. I picked these speakers up when Logitech was running rebates, and I got them really cheap after rebate. I didn't even know about the existence of such "notebook speakers" so I decided to give it a try.
The setup was incredibly easy, just plug into the USB slot and go. The sound coming out of these things are just absolutely amazing. In the laptop that I use and travel with, I have all my iTunes library is in the hard disk. I used to use Altec Lansing's iPod speakers, and they sounded pretty good, but when I am in a hotel room relaxed, I had to set up the iPod with speakers separate from my laptop and there were wires all over the place. I do work a lot in my hotel room, and I usually do use the iPod setup for music, but to navigate via iPod to select music was sort of difficult since I had to rotate the click wheel while the iPod is seated in the middle of the speakers. So, I started to use these V20 speakers instead. What a difference! I think the drivers used for these speakers can produce much more bass than my Altec Lansing, and now I can change the music while I am working on my laptop. When the music was playing too loud or have a lot of bass, the unit started shake and vibrate, and some bass was distorted, but I don't really care about that. They're just so much more convenient than those iPod speakers, and I can use those speakers to watch movies and even do presentation with a room full of people.
So now I take my iPod for listening to music on the airplane or train, and use those V20 speakers listen to music while working. Now that I know how powerful and useful these things are, I feel very lucky to pick these up when Logitech was running the rebates, but had I known about these speakers before, I would have picked these speakers up at full price, since they're totally worth the list price. I've been recommending these for my colleagues, and anyone with laptop. If you're like me, who wants to listen to music while working on a laptop, these speakers are the best!!!
Customer Review: Great Netbook Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
I travel frequently, and carry a netbook with me everywhere I go. I hate the sound of the built-in speakers in laptops and netbooks and resorted to listening to music using earphones. However, being tied down with earphones or headphones while relaxing in a hotel room proved to be very inconvenient. I wanted good sounding speakers that were lightweight, easy to transport, with a volume loud enough to fill up a room. I didn't want to carry extra power supplies or batteries due to the extra weight (airlines are becoming very strict about the baggage weight limit and charging extra for being overweight).
I purchased the Logitech V20 USB powered speakers about 4 months ago, as they seemed to meet my requirements. They were lightweight and came in a very nice carrying case, which protected the speakers when being transported in my check-in baggage. Because it is USB powered, it uses the netbook battery for power. No extra power supplies or batteries to carry for these speakers. I have a Samsung N110 netbook Samsung N110-12PBK 10.1-Inch Black Netbook - 6 Cell Battery (9.5 Hours), which is small, lightweight and easy to carry in my hand-carry bag, and has a very long battery life, so it runs the V20 speakers a long time at a good volume; over 6 hours on the netbook battery power. This is very handy during power outages as the speakers are not affected by it, using netbook battery power instead of external power.
These speakers use one USB port on the netbook to operate. They work well and I've had no problems whatsoever. The only setup required is to plug the speakers into the netbook before opening the computer program you're going to listen to. This ensures that the sound goes to the V20 speakers instead of the netbook speakers.
The sound is very good for such portable speakers. The bass is surprisingly good and the overall sound quality is good. I am really enjoying these speakers on my travels, listening to iTunes and internet radio. These speakers travel with me everywhere I go.
