Purchased both Logitech USB Microphone and Quickcam Communicate STX. Installed both on my Dell E521 Dual-Core PC. Microphone on the Logitech Communicate STX emits indistinctive background noise, after switching Microphone to this Logitech USB one, all noise are gone for good, other party hears nothing but your voice, even picked up my conversation downstairs, amazing! By the way it cancels echoes as well, all echoes the other party hears from you has become history as well. No driver to download, easy setup, just plug it in and Windows detects the device automatically, and you are ready to explore one great Mic made by Logitech. Base unit on the Mic is sturdy, so it won't tilt or swing due to lack of weight. Long and thick cables, has ON/OFF switch on the base, lovely design... I play World of Warcraft and communications is a vital part in raiding. I used to use a high quality headset and mic, but after a few hours, my ears began to hurt. I looked for another option.
Now, I bought this microphone to do some recording awhile back and didn't even think about using it for gaming. Since the headset was not an option anymore, I tried this microphone. I hooked it up, configured Ventrilo and World of Warcraft and lo and behold it worked perfect.
Any gamer out there that does not use this microphone is missing out on a great product. Try it and you will never go back to a headset again. Now my Sons want one really bad. I ordered two of them from Amazon for an overnight shipping. Boy, will they be surprised when I give it to them.

I bought this microphone for recording in FLStudio, conversing in Skype, and replacing the internal Sigmatel mic on my laptop. this was exactly what I was looking for; a cheaper price than other brands with universal compatibility. There is no CD installation required, as this is a plug and play device; meaning once plugged in, it installs itself which makes it easier if you are traveling to different computers.
With extremely crystal clear recording, a fine durable lengthy cord, and sound pickup through a focal point, this is a high quality computer microphone from a trusted brand.
I would change nothing about this product unless it would be possible to pick up the mic without the base looking odd in the hand, as well as reducing all forms of extra cords and hassle.

I recently bought a good pair of headphones for music and games, but missed the microphone of my old headset. I settled on a desktop microphone, and I'm impressed with this one's quality. I've used it for chatting over Skype and nobody has had trouble hearing me or complained about an echo from my speakers getting picked up. I've even used it as a make shift baby monitor when coupled with my phone. It picks up the entire room in the direction it's pointed. I also use it without trouble to voice chat over Steam while I play games online. I haven't had any problems with people being unable to hear me clearly.
I generally keep it from 1-2 feet from my face, and it's been perfectly compatible and easy to set up in Windows 7 64bit.

I've had this microphone over a year now and it's been great. No problems at all.
I use it over skype, so that's my frame of reference and evaulation.
Everyone on the other end has said the sound is perfectly clear. I can keep the microphone off to the side, at least a bit. This is very important to me as my primary use these days is to practice Spanish in a language-exchange. It would be very awkward if the microphone had to be right in front of me, between me and the keyboard, as I'm often typing furiously frantically looking up words in an on-line English/Spanish dictionary.
I'm thinking of ordering a 2nd one for my wife's laptop for when she talks to her sisters across the country.
