Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech USB Desktop Microphone (Black/Silver)Customer Review: Excellent mic!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this mic to use for recording my affirmations on a soundwave program and it does a great job of recording my voice clearly. The mic is quite sensitive and easily picks up background noise so you'll want to make sure it's very quiet if you're using it for recording.
It took some time to get the angle just right for recording. If you're too close, or speak directly into the mic, it will pick up the sounds of your exhale or when you're using any words that begin with consanants. For example, the word plenty will have a loud "puh" sound like you're blowing into the microphone.
I found the best way to record is to place the mic at a 45 degree angle to my mouth and speak about 2 inches away from the top, so I'm not speaking directly into it but my voice carries across the side of it, if that makes sense.
I don't have any complaints; the mic stores easily on my desk, it was extremely easy to connect to my PC with the USB connection and it's well built. I won't be surprised if this thing lasts several years.
Customer Review: Great Microphone; It DOES Work With Vista Summary: 5 Stars
After I had ordered this microphone, I was reading the reviews, and some of them said that it deos NOT work with Windows Vista. I have a computer with Vista Home Premium, but I aslo have a computer with XP on it. I planned to just use it on the XP to record me playing piano and using the speech recognition. I was amazed at how good the sound quality was.
I became curious, and I wanted to see if it would work on my Vista machine, and so I hooked it up and opened Sound Recorder. At first, it didn't work, so I went to <Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound> and clicked the "Recording" tab and found that the default was set to a nonexistant microphone (the microphone jack). I set the Logitech microphone as default, and I retuned to Sound Recorder. It worked! I heard my voice crystal clear. I also tried recording myself playing guitar and then piano, and even though the sound was soft, the sound quality was beautiful.
I would strongly recommend this microphone. It is well worth your money, and I am VERY satisfied with it!
Customer Review: Great Desktop Microphone Summary: 5 Stars
I have a web camera connected to my computer and have been searching for a suitable microphone to use when chatting on the Internet with my friends and family. I quickly found that the microphone in the web cam had a lot of static and didn't work well. Then I have tried several headsets, but found that most of the ones I purchased (I purchased several) were also noisy. Every time I turned my head there was a bad crackle in the microphone.
Then I found the Logitech USB desktop microphone. It's perfect for what I need. Sits discreetly on my desk when I am using the web cam so no one can even see it. It comes with a long cable so I can move the microphone as close to my mouth as I need to.
It couldn't have been easier to hook up... just plugged it into an available USB port and my Windows XP computer recognized it immediately.
I've also used this microphone to record several Camtasia "walk throughs" and the quality and clarity are great for what I need.
Highly recommend!!!!
Customer Review: Exactly as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
I have a small regular jack microphone that I used on my ThinkPad laptop since its internal microphone is absolutely useless (it is too close to the speakers and too weak - so if you turn up its sensitivity, it will pick up the speakers and feedback with a horrible shriek).
But that jack microphone wouldn't work with my MacPro, so I got this Logitech USB one and it was exactly what I wanted out of a microphone. I took it out of the packaging, plugged it into the USB port, and configured it in the settings - done.
It has worked flawlessly ever since and I use it regularly for Skype calls to clients around the world.
I haven't tested it much with PCs, so I can't speak to how well it works on those - but it is great on the Macs. You probably will need to increase the sensitivity a bit in the settings, but other than that, flawless.
The on/off button at the base is great for conference calls and you don't want side conversations locally to interfere with the mic'ed conversation.
Customer Review: Works great for recording conversations Summary: 5 Stars
I use this mic to record my business conversations, and it does exactly that. I can place the mic several feet (5') away from where I am actually conversing, and it consistently picks up my voice and the voice of whomever I am talking to.
As long as it is pointed in the general direction of our conversation everything works fine, and the recording is always understandable.
In comparison to the previous mics I used in conjunction with my voice activated software, this is the only mic which is usable. And with the handy mute button placed on the unit, I can always quickly mute things when necessary.
Otherwise the design of the mic seems solid. The joint the mic is actually mounted on seems strong enough to hold the mic in place (even when mounted vertically). And the base of the unit has some weight which prevents the unit from flying around too easily.
For the purposes I use this mic for, I can't recommend it enough, especially when I consider the price.
