Customer Review: Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical Mouse = The Best
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned a Logitech Trackman mouse of some sort now since 2000 and in the last two years tried them with the Wheel option. I've always had very little desk space and so the conventional mouse (ball or optical) limited my pointer movement ability on the desktop without having to constantly pick up the mouse repeatedly. If you aren't familiar with using a trackball mouse, it doesn't take long at all to get use to moving the trackball with your thumb (another model, without the wheel, has you using your central (index thru ring) fingers to move a centrally positioned trackball, and use to be my favorite trackball mouse until I started using the model with the wheel) and the convenience is well worth the very short and easy learning curve. For me, I'll never go back to using a regular mouse again. The Trackman Wheel Optical Mouse is available in both corded and cordless models. I've tried both. The corded one has a decent 6' long USB cord and the cordless one has a good USB receiver range of about the same, but requires battery replacement after a couple of months (which can be frustrating if you forget to keep a stock of batteries handy, so keep a spare USB mouse on hand, just in case).

Customer Review: Used same trackball for 10 years and still going strong!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used the same Logitech Trackman Wheel track ball for over 10 years. It has never given me a problem whatsoever--I'm finally replacing it, due to an operator headspace and timing error--While cleaning it, I used a the end of a mechanical pencil around one of the ball bearings and pushed too hard. It came out of the slot and I lost it.

Some reviewers have said you need to clean it everyday. I haven't found this to be necessary--even though I often eat at my desk while working. I will go a month or two before it needs cleaned--generally when the ball movement starts feeling "gummy".

Wipe the ball off with a slightly damp cloth with a little dishwashing detergent on it. Clean the pivots and the optical pickup with a clean, dry cloth. Takes a minute or two and you're done.

That being said, I had a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE with the CORDLESS version of this trackball. My engineering office bought 18 of them at my recommendation (based on my experience with the corded version). What a difference! The trackballs often acted up and had to be reset, or the battery taken out and reinserted, etc. All of them died permanently within 6 months of purchase.

Customer Review: Fixed It
Summary: 5 Stars

I have bought both corded and cordless versions of Logitech trackballs for many years. They are by far my favorite mouse type input devices.

This morning my left button quit and I was in a quandary. Go to the local office stores and pay $40 or so to replace it, or google for price which brought me here. I was ordering a new one when I read the reviews. Thanks to the first reviewer I decided I had nothing to lose by attempting to fix it and I am well qualified to do the soldering required. The only difference is that my Microsoft mouse was totally different internally. However, I disassembled a Dell mouse and found it uses identical parts to this Trackball. Got a good switch from it and am back in business. Thanks for the tip.

One thing though. Unless you are good at electronics repair, opt for a new one from Amazon. They have others identical that are as much as $40 or so but this page is by far the best price I have found if you order enough to get free shipping. I buy all my ink cartridges here also at the best price I can find as well as many other items.

This mouse? can't be beat at any price and is a great bargain at about $25 here.

Customer Review: Great Device
Summary: 5 Stars

I was recently told by my trainer I had to get a different mouse, preferably a track ball due to some pain developing in my wrist.

Lots of research led me to this product.

I have had no complaints with this trackball. I use it 9-11 hours a day and think it is great. I use it with a Mac OS X Snow Leopard machine and it works without problem.

For those new to trackballs, this product uses your right thumb to control the ball. I was worried I would not be coordinated enough to make this an efficient input device, but after five minutes, I was using it with the same accuracy I have with a mouse.

I am a web designer, using art applications that require precision and have no problems with this trackball.

Lastly, after a couple of months, the ball started catching. After some fiddling, I was able to pop the ball out of the socket and clean out the gunk. Problem solved. The ball is very firmly seated, so I was not sure it was going to come out. Don't worry, you won't break it. Grab hold and pop it out. I now clean it weekly (usually while on the phone) and it continues to work smoothly!

Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Best Mouse Ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my favorite mouse and I have used many different types at home and at my different workplaces. This one is very comfortable and I can stay on the computer for much longer periods of time due to the fact that my wrist doesn't hurt when I use this one. The thumb ball takes some getting used to but after a while it becomes very natural because your hand and wrist are resting in a natural position while feeling supported by your palm. Your thumb will do most of the movements while you wrist will get far less use.

I talked my boss into buying my first Logitech Trackman Wheel for our office in 1995 due to the fact my wrist was in a brace from the pain I was having by using a basic old-fashioned mouse. I fell in love with it and I have had 2 of my own since then, for my personal computers and laptop. When one breaks I will replace it with another Logitech Trackball Wheel. I hope they keep making them. I couldn't find them at Best Buy anymore where I bought my last laptop. Thank goodness for Amazon they had it. I do all my shopping at Amazon now, before I look anywhere else.

It is a very durable mouse and it has a very good warranty.
