Customer Review: why this one is better than the wireless Trackman...
Summary: 5 Stars

most people who buy the Trackman already know the comfort and accuracy of the wheel versus a traditional mouse, so, usually the debate is should I get the wireless or the corded? I've used the wireless for maybe 4 or 5 years now, and although it works, I finally got sick of connection issues and the impending feeling of when is the battery going to die?? whenever the mouse movement got jittery, it was always, "o.k., is it the computer, do I have to reconnect? is it the battery??"...and it becomes this cycle of checking the connection, inserting and re-inserting the battery, connecting and reconnection, putting a new battery in and reconnecting, and after years and years, it will drive you crazy!

and the bottom line...how often are you truly that far away from your computer? how good is your long distance vision? whether you're using a laptop or desktop, you're usually never that far away from the actual USB connection to the computer and definitely not that far if you're using it on a laptop. the cord on this is plenty long for most people's computer setup, and really, how many people have a monitor cord that will exceed the length of a typical mouse cord? save yourself the hassle, quit polluting the planet with dead batteries, and buy the corded mouse.

Customer Review: Lucky you!

This is the best mouse ever! I got one in a used package... the Sony laptop is loooong gone but the mouse lives on! I have never had a terrible problem with carpal tunnel, but I use a mouse 8-15 hours a day many days, and my hand got sore and numb... so I imagine I was developing carpal tunnel. I only used the thumb ball because it was in with the package... but boy-o-boyo am I glad I did!

It has been 4, maybe 5 years and I cannot tell you if the original thumb ball is still working because I ordered 6 more as back-up. I have dropped these on a regular basis and while the ball may fall out, it just rolls away and pops back in. I have one on my work machine, another on my home pc and I carry one around for use with my laptop. Durable is an understatement! My wrist and arm are happy and the golden thing is when I am using the laptop I do not need a space to shift a mouse around. I can set the mouse on my leg or the seat I am sitting in and never have to move it - the thumb roll is all the motion necessary.

I bought and used the 'wireless' version... but it is a pass for me. The receiver needs to be 'wired' in, so the wireless ability of the mouse that is stationary anyway is nil. The wired mouse is actually more flexible and easy.

Customer Review: Trackball Fever
Summary: 5 Stars

The Trackman Wheel has been around for a number of years, and there is a reason!! All the fancy mouses (mice?) have one thing in common - they have to be physically move to work. The result for serious computer users often is wrist and shoulder fatigue at the end of the day. Not so with the Trackball - it stays in one place and only your thumb forefinger (and second finger once you get good at it) moves. When was the last time they got tired?

If your are having wrist/shoulder problems and your doctor is talking of surgery, run as fast as you can to buy a Trackball. This simple change saved me $40,000 plus the tremendous discomfort of surgery. Yes, its that easy!!

Whether it is this plain Jane type (my favorite - I've worn out four of them) or the cordless version (got tired of changing batteries), it will go a long way toward making your computer work more enjoyable. It will take a day or so to get used to it. Then set all the actions to high and no one (not even the IT guys) will mess with your computer.

I use it for AutoCAD work. At the end of the day (and they are often long ones) there is no pain anywhere. And No, the thumb does not get tired doing all the work - it does it anyway, even with a mouse.

Customer Review: much better than a mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used all manner of pointing devices, from mice to pens to touchpads and trackballs of various types, and I find this to be the best of any out there right now.

It fits the hand easily, the controls work well and smoothly, and creates very little fatigue. The only caveat is that it is for right handed people - it does not work as well for lefties, as it is asymmetrical.

It has right and left mouse buttons, a scroll wheel and a trackball (about one inch in diameter) for use by thumb. When you rest your hand on it, it feels very natural and comfortable, and the control response is very nice. I can zip a cursor across a 1280 x 960 (or larger) screen very quickly with just a couple quick flicks of my thumb. The controls fall under individual fingers very well, and you will quickly adapt to using it.

It connects easily by USB (there is a wireless version), and is identified by Windows and Ubuntu linux without drivers of any kind. I am gradually replacing all my mice with these, and my arm is thanking me for that.

It works well, is not horribly expensive, and I think you will find it a great choice. I think it is one of the best designed pieces of gear I have seen, and I can be pretty picky.

Customer Review: Very pleased still to have this model available
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a very long-time user of the cordless version of this trackball mouse. Finally, it stopped working and I could hardly wait to get it replaced. I have a box full of more current Logitech mice which came paired with various Logitech keyboards. They all are reliable and relatively easy to work with... and nicely customizable, but it was still a matter of pushing around a mouse on my desktop. Plus, because my desktop has a drop-slope, any of the cordless models I tried to use would eventually slide off the desk and end up on the floor a few seconds after I took my hand off it. The Trackman Wheel stays put. I loved the cordless version, but fairly frequently had to change the battery. Since I my work and time at the computer didn't really necessitate a cordless mouse, I opted for the corded version this time around at about half the price of the cordless version.

It was so nice to get the new trackman wheel so that I could put away the other mice I had been using. About 10 seconds after plugging it in, my hand was once again comfortably resting on the trackman with my thumb quickly guiding me to where I needed the cursor to be. Some things are best left unchanged, and i believe this is one such item.
