Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical (Silver)Customer Review: Awesome product. Make sure you get the newer version. Summary: 5 Stars
My wrist and half of my right hand was hurting when I was using a mouse for work, home and back to work. I am a very heavy mouse user (PhD student in Computer Science = insane hours in front of the computer).
Since I switched to using this trackball, my pain has gone away. I would definitely recommend this product to those who feel the same pain in their hand and wrist after too much usage of computer.
It is worthy to note that you can play computer games (RTS, RPG and even FPS) with this mouse. Albeit not with the same precision as a mouse, but decent enough that you won't regret using this trackball mouse full time.
I have one version which I bought from Amazon and another version that I bought at Bestbuy store. The Amazon box has the yellow word "optical" at the bottom right while the Bestbuy box is a bit different. Somehow, the trackball I got from Amazon is not as smooth as the one I got from Bestbuy. It feels like it is grinding a little bit when I move. But I don't mind that. Some other users (commented before me) said that you can fix the problem by opening up the mouse. I guess I will have to do that a couple of months down the road.
For now, if you are picky about the smoothness of the trackball, try different versions at the store.
Remember, wash your hand before touching the trackball will save you time cleaning it up later.
Customer Review: Logitech Makes the Best Summary: 5 Stars
This is my third Logitech trackball. The trackball it replaces is a Logitech Trackman that I bought in 1995. Nothing attached to my computer was anywhere close to that old.I finally got tired of cleaning the ball on the old Trackman. My wife has both an Logitech marble trackball and a Logitech optical cordless mouse, and I wanted the best, too. While each new Microsoft OS has had problems with the older version of Mouseware software, in my experience, Logitech is always the first to have updated drivers available shortly after release of new OS's. After using the trackball for about 5 months, I'm still thrilled. Sure, the gunk from my oily, sticky, food-covered hands still builds up on the ball, but unlike mechanical mice and trackballs, it doesn't cause sticking and jumping of the cursor. The action was still smooth. I had not even noticed that it was getting harder to move the ball until I popped the ball out, and gave the contact points a quick cleaning. So even with five months of built-up grime, it was still working just fine. Now not everyone likes trackballs. I use a mouse at work, and it's probably better for me to be moving my whole arm. But at home my desk is too messy. There's no room to move a mouse, and even if I were able to, I'd hit my elbow on something else. Not for one minute have I regretted buying this trackball.
Customer Review: The only device that relieved my hand pain Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using a Trackman wheel for over eight years. It is the only pointing device among dozens that I've tested over the years that does not eventually result in hand pain with extended use. Everyone's body and Repetitive Motion Injuries are different, so you may not find the same kind of relief that I did, but if you not had luck with various mice or center mounted trackballs, I'd encourage you to try this thumb driven one. The center mounted trackballs seem to exercise and irritate in exactly the wrong place, a line running directly down into my wrist.
The only comment I would make about this trackball is that once or twice a week I need to pop the ball out and remove the 'gunk' that has built up around the 'points' that hold the ball. I pop the ball out with a pencil and then use the pencil eraser to flip the bit of fuzz out. I also occasionally polish the ball by a brief rub with a cloth or shirt sleeve. Both cleaning techniques keep the ball rolling smoothly and easily. Logitech does sell replacement points but I've never felt the need for them.
I'm here shopping today for a new one because switch on the left button of my current one is finally wearing out and becoming unreliable after many years of continuous use. Great product and a wrist-saver for myself and many other users that I know.
Customer Review: RELIEF~ Summary: 5 Stars
My IBM Thinkpad has been more overhauled than Hollywood actresses bodies and it's middle mini-dot mouse pushed around more than all the hockey puks in the universe so believe me when I tell you that Logitech has saved me! I used to have a Logitech marble trackballattached to a desk top that refused my final Lazurus Houdini administrations. Doctors have noted enlarged bone structure in my right hand and I noted PAIN! But this little number has released me!
If you feel beyond the age of playing with balls ... this is your newest treat! The ease and speed you afforded during your mouse use uplifts your zip and drives you into a mircrosoft orb of pleasure. You will see when you get yours and you will wish your screen was a mirror because, unconsiously, you will want to see yourself grinning.
Why did you waste time reading this instead of ordering it immediately for swift delivery? I'm not one to read directions, I plugged it in! It went to work!
Now THAT'S what I'm TALKIN' ABOUT!!!
ROLL on!

Customer Review: Trackman Wheel Mouse Summary: 5 Stars
I had a Trackman Wheel Mouse and used it extensively for about 10 years. This is the only type of mouse that fits the palm of your right hand and doesn't require any arm or shoulder movement. Well one day it broke, so I took it apart and gave it a good cleaning. But I still couldn't get it to work easily as it did when it was new. After all it gave great service for over 10 years, so I went shopping. Darn, I couldn't find the kind I loved with the three buttons across the top, with the middle button that could be set to "double click" with just one click. It was great for playing Solitaire and really increased my speed. Amazon came to my rescue as they had a Trackman Wheel Scroll Optical Mouse, TrackMan® Wheel Optical Trackball, USB, PS/2, Silver/Graywhich is the closest mouse I could find to my old 3-button one. So I ordered it. When it arrived, I plugged it into my PC and to my dismay I found that the wheel between the 2 buttons couldn't convert to a double click. It took some getting used to having to click twice on the first button. However, now that I am acclimated to it, the wheel is great for scrolling up or down the page in a hurry. This mouse is worth the money and I am hoping it doesn't fall by the wayside like its predecessor, if I ever have to replace it in 10 years or so.
