Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with SubwooferCustomer Review: Excellent deal to add "thump" to your sound. Summary: 5 Stars
At the time I'm writing this, i've been playing various electronic songs which really test to see how good a sub is. It's exceptional. For the size of these speakers and sub, plus the price, this set is an instant winner unless you are unfortunate enough to get a dud set.
Here's the layout.
Anything that has a headphone port (mp3 player, boombox, and a computer) is plugged into the subwoofer with the green plug. The sub is plugged into a power outlet. The speakers are connected to the sub. You control the volume, plus turn the system on and off, with the little disk-like thing in the picture that also has a headphone and microphone jack. So you don't even need an auxiliary cord as far as i can tell.
I have yet to use it on a tv. Mine is an old sanyo that I can't see this system connecting to. Seeing as there are no headphone jacks or really any output jacks that fit the sub's plugs, I'll have to get creative and see if i can use adapters to make it work.
Still, I have a load of respect for these speakers being so good yet incredibly cheap. Someone listening to this system thumping loader than their boombox will ask you for the price, and be wonderfully awed when you tell them it's just below 30 dollars. Have I mentioned that it's rather easy to move around? I already love this system and i'm sure you can get away with buying a separate set for everything.
Customer Review: Impressive Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this unit to compliment a small LCD tv for when working out on our exercise equipment. The sound system is minimal expense, as is the tv, dvd, weight machine, and treadmill. The treadmill is louder than I would prefer and over-whelms the speakers on the tv, thus the reason for the Logitech S220 sound system. For the money the Logitech S220 does a good job: I can hear over the treadmill noise, though not by as comfortable a margin as I would prefer. If the Logitech S220 were used with a computer, or a tv in a small area, it would probably do an admirable job. If you expect it to overcome noise then it may be insufficient for the task, and in all fairness, more than it was built for. It is, after-all, a very inexpensive system.
The sound is good. The bass performs well. The remote is convenient (microphone/headphone/volume/power). The price is exceptional, as is the value!
Am I happy with it? Yes.
Should I have spent $25 more on a bit more power? Probably. (Remember, I am trying to overcome a noisy treadmill.)
Might it do a good job in an otherwise relatively quiet room? Yes, I think it most definately could.
All in all, an impressive system for the money.
* I am seriously considering saving a few dollars to buy another Logitech S220 system for my computer! *
*** Maybe even one for the tv in the bedroom!!! ***
Customer Review: Great Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
This speaker system surprised me. I built a PC system for the first time and was picking out parts. When it came to speakers I looked at 5.1 and 7.1 setups, but was disappointed by the prices. I wanted great sound but not at the costs I was seeing. I do some gaming, in which case I use a headphone/mic setup. But I do like to stream music or play MP3s when working from home. I thought, based on other reviews I have read, that I would take a chance on these speakers.
I'm pleasantly surprised! The sound is very good. Much better then I would expect at this price! The subwoofer adds a nice amount of bass. And the small speakers were equally surprising with their sound quality. I have read that the speakers do not do well at high volume. This appears to be true. However, I NEVER need it at that level. I have never had need to set the volume above 50%. At that level they sound great.
I also really like the small "pod" that logitech has provided for setting the volume. I had no trouble routing it, on my desk, to a location that I like. No more having to lean/reach way forward and up to the speakers to adjust volume. And having an extra location to plug in my headphone/mic setup (built into the pod) is handy as well. If you are looking for good sound and a great price these are the speakers.
Customer Review: Great Speakers at a Great Price Summary: 5 Stars
I've been away from home for a while, and I've been relegated to watching movies on my laptop and Mac Mini. Unfortunately the speakers on these two computers, good as they are for most everyday purposes, are not adequate for watching movies: the dialogue would most of the time be too soft, and the action scenes just didn't have enough impact with the feeble background sound. I looked into buying a couple of portable laptop speakers, but soon discovered that most of these seemed overpriced. Additionally, the reviews for most of them didn't seem all too favorable. When I came across these speakers, I was somewhat surprised with all the positive feedback: I wouldn't expect any electronic accessory priced at $27 to be getting this many five-star ratings. After having used these speakers for a couple of weeks I can say that those ratings were fully justified. The speakers were extremely easy to install, they didn't occupy too much space on my desk (even when the subwoofer is taken into the account), and the sound was just incredible. The system is also compact enough that it would easily fit in a suitcase, so if you are considering going on a longer trip and would like to enjoy movies and music as at their best, taking this system along may be a viable option. Overall, this is a great product at the price that cannot be beat.
Customer Review: Audio-snobs won't be satisfied, but . . . . Summary: 5 Stars
. . . . . most normal folks who want decent desktop sound (like me) will be very happy! Reasons for my happiness: (1) Overall sound quality is much better than similar-spec 2.1 systems I've heard that cost considerably more; (2) Total RMS power of 17W is plenty `nuff to fill a decent size office or bedroom; (3) Small footprints for satellites and subwoofer save lotsa' space; (4) Simple design is conservatively attractive; and (5) The small, round control disk is HUGELY convenient - it makes on/off, volume control and headphone/mike jacks truly accessible without the need to reach behind anything! Just attach a small patch of gummed Velcro to its underside, and control becomes a stable elbow bend away. That single feature's enough for me to give the S-220 a "6" if I could. Logitech did well.
All that said, don't expect this system to serve well for a large-room home theater, to provide thundering bass, or to let you hear finger-friction on a guitar strum - no $25 set will do that. But in my very humble opinion, I doubt there's a speaker system for that price on the market today offering a better combination of sound quality, power capacity, attractive design, and ease-of-control. If you find one that's better, please leave me a comment. It'll help my Christmas shopping. Thanks.
