Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with SubwooferCustomer Review: Not as good as Bose - WHAT!!!?? Summary: 5 Stars
Like so many, I bought this system based on my own review of the technical specifications and the opinions/reviews of others. In a word, I think this system is outstanding.
However, I would like to address some of the objections of negative reviewers which I did not find manifest. It is, of course, possible that many of the negatives described could be attributable to a defective product.
Sound quality. First off, I experience no hum, buzzes, or noise of any kind; perhaps I fail to overdrive the system! Secondly, the negatives are contradictory, i.e., one's too much is another's not enough; some are tinny, some basses boom; many have no control over either; the separation between treble and bass is such that there is no midrange; and especially noteworthy is the post by he who noted that the system was not as good as the Bose he listens to all day at work! Really - what a surprise! I find the sound quality excellent, more so than I expected from an inexpensive system. Be it my home stereo system that cost several thousand dollars or the Logitech S220, one thing I do is to use a audio equalizer to adjust the quality of sound to suit the conditions of my room and ear. It is, I think, axiomatic that ALL stereo systems must be equilibrated which, among other things, will reduce a "whole in the middle" and seeming too abrupt shifts between frequency ranges. Finally, I suggest it is common sense that sound quality will be greatly influenced by the audio components of the system. In the end, the conjunction of subjective bias and objective reality will dictate one's assessment.
Defects: I find none; poor quality: I do not think so; remarks about being made in China: inappropriate and gratuitous; apparent expectations that Logitech (or anyone else) should manufacture a product that will never be defective or fail: arrogant and hypocritical; comparison to Bose: speaks for itself!
In my opinion this system provides excellent sound at a most reasonable price. Depending on one's demands, it may or may not benefit by the use of audio components that have an audio equalizer, not because of any inherent defect in the system, but rather to allow one to adjust the quality of the sound to suit his or her bias.
I whole heartedly recommend the Logitech S-220
Customer Review: You get what you pay!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I've been in the market for new speakers for a while, and then miraculously my old Logitech 5.1 speakers started dying. It was a sign for me to grab these, because I have never seen speakers in this price range that retain such high ratings. So I got em quickly and I found out the sound quality is great(as I expected).
What didn't impress me is the lack of volume. These speakers use a very small amount of power, which was an additional incentive for me to get them because I really prefer efficient products, but I didn't think that also meant the maximum volume would be this soft. But to be fair, the maximum volume isn't soft enough for me to take off a star, I am just used to a 5.1 system that uses 80 watts, which is 4 times more than these. So if you are planning on using these casually in an office setting, you are golden. As long as you are not planning to blast music and expect to hear it clearly from a different room, you should be ok.
A week later my purchase, my summer break was over and I took these to my apartment in my college town and when I was setting them up I dropped the volume knob from maybe 3 ft high, straight onto the hard metal part of my desk. It broke immediately, which was a bummer. The construction quality is very, very cheap. It is nothing but the cheapest of plastic and the subwoofer is too narrow (probably to cut back on unneccessary cost inflation) which is responsible getting constantly knocked over when my feet touch them. This can't be too good for its lifespan... I wanted solid products that can last for a decade, but for now this would have to do because I missed the return deadline.
As for the price, right now it is merely 21 dollars! When I bought them back not even two months ago (May 2010) they were 27 dollars. So you should buy em now if you are thinking about it. They really do have a great sound quality, which is probably the most important aspect that you should look at, and despite the cheap construction quality, if you don't touch em or mistreat em they should last a long time. My volume knob is broken unfortunately, (the plastic cover broke) but it still works. I suppose I should be happy about that...
Customer Review: Truly Great Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
I picked these up because I was getting a dedicated monitor for my PC as opposed to using my TV and the monitor I chose didn't have built-in speakers. I didn't really want to spend a lot, so I selected these. I've used Logitech products for years and have always been pleased with their performance, and these speakers are no exception.
As far as I'm concerned, these speakers can be quite loud. They can definitely fill the room (and hallway) with sound. Clear sound. Since I'm sitting a couple of feet from them, I barely have them turned up. Just for this review, I turned them all the way up. WOW! Whether low or maxed out, the sound is rich and crystal clear. And no, I don't have sensitive ears. Quite the contrary, I have slight hearing damage due to years of listening to loud music.
The only minor downside I see is that there isn't a lot of bass. But I didn't knock off any stars for this because I'm sure my expectations were unrealistic. I guess I have it in my head that if there's a subwoofer, there will be massive bass. That's probably why I blew the stock sub in my car. LOL. There is bass, decent bass, in fact; it just doesn't shake the floor. It becomes quite noticeable if you adjust the subwoofer control.
Overall, these are great speakers, especially when you consider the price. They are easily the best computer speakers I've ever had (admittedly not an area I've ever dedicated substantial sums of money, though). If you're looking for speakers to do high quality sound work, well, you shouldn't be looking at $25 speakers in the first place. If you're looking for speakers for general everyday listening (internet radio, watching online videos, playing games, etc.), these are perfect and won't break the bank.
Customer Review: These Speakers are Proof that you Don't Have to Spend a Bundle for Good Speakers Summary: 5 Stars
Pros: Sound Quality, Price, Sleek Design, Headphone Jack which is really nice since the one on my computer is almost impossible to reach. I've accidentally dropped and knocked the speakers over as well as banged one into the wall a few times and none of that affected their performance or the way they look.
Cons: The built in Volume Control wheel works great Except when you plug-in headphones, then you have to adjust the volume through your computer directly. Extra features = extra cords to get in the way.
Other Information: I bought this speaker system on July 18, 2009. I would recommend them to others and would buy them again in the future if I damaged them through my clumsiness.
After I was thoroughly tired of the horrible buzzing/static like noise the speakers my husband had hooked up to the computer for Forever; I started looking for speakers. Had I known I could find such good quality speakers for such a great price I would have started looking sooner. I thought I would have to pay at least $100 for decent computer speakers, so imagine my surprise when I found this well reviewed speaker system on Amazon for less then $30.
These aren't going to give you the same sound quality as more sophisticated (and generally more expensive) speaker systems, but they are More then sufficient for watching music videos, TV shows, and listening to music with good sound quality on my computer. When I want Great sound quality for my music then I listen to it on my home stereo system, but my stereo doesn't play YouTube videos. ^_^
Customer Review: why pay more?edit Summary: 5 Stars
i was sceptical about all the good reviews of this product.. and.. i thought i mite be mildly impressed... but after 4 days.. update.. 4 months later. amazing.. i bought another one for a xmas present.. those 17 watts are impressive the woofer is rocking/vibrating the furniture around me.. and.. the sounds drift up to all levels of the mansion i'm staying in.. the highs are extra high.. the lows are very low.. and the mid range is very nice.. i have owned lots of speakers and never could i imagine i could do all this out of a lil pair of 30 dollar speakers.. just plug the green cord into your lap top headphone plug.. and sit back and be amazed... the wired remote volume swivel dial is a nice touch to keep you in just the right sound volume you want at the moment. i got the extention cord.. for an extra few feet.. but when i tried using that.. it made one speaker cut in and out.. not enough power or something.. so. i dont use it. but the woofer can be put at your foot and just reach down and turn it up or down if you want to tweak the highs.. just turn the dial on the remote. hard to explain but the learning curve is fast with this set up. and its got loud enough sound.. i can go out on the deck and listen to music from my lap top. your media player will sound great.. or you can do. A O L radio.. all channels sound good. every once in a while you will find something that is over based.. and you can durn the woofer down a lil. most the time you will leave it on full speed. great for most YOU TUBE music.
