Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Rumblepad 2 Vibration Feedback GamepadCustomer Review: Does the job Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to use with my MAME setup at home, which includes emulators for other systems, like Sega and Nintendo. It works ok with some of the MAME arcade games, but most of those are best with a heavy duty stick, like the X-arcade, or a homemade Happs. For old Sega and Nintendo games, though, the Logitech rumblepad is great, and does the job quite nicely. First off, though, let me reiterate what so many other reviewers have already noted. If you have a Mac, the rumble/feedback function is useless as the Mac will not recognize it. In fact, it doesn't seem like PC users are getting better responses, but I could be wrong about that. Anyway, I looked at almost all the gamepads Amazon has available, and this seemed to be rated the best, so I went with it. In terms of response time, it's been great. If you are using emulators, you will have to program the pad first, but once programmed, it works well. Thus far, the analog joystick has been both responsive and has a solid ball, centering itself fairly well. It can be a little sensitive at times, though, like when I played Donkey Kong, I would stop and instead of Mario just stopping, he would also turn the other direction, which would cause me to get killed by a barrel. As I mentioned before though, this is not the best controller to use with MAME anyway. I will sometimes switch to the Dpad, which is better about that sort of thing. What I love about it is that it isn't like the four arrow Playstation pads. It has the full circle, which means you can be more specific with your directions when it's called for, and I can be lazy as well. I can 'roll' my thumb from down to right, instead of having to press them separately, which I prefer. I can't speak to the durability factor yet, as I have only owned it for a few weeks, but so far it's been solid, and I've played it at least once a day since I received it. If you are a gamer looking for an inexpensive Nintendo/Sega/Playstation-like gamepad, this is a good one to go with.
Customer Review: As Good as My PS2/PS3 Controllers! Summary: 5 Stars
I've always been an avid PC and Playstation gamer. I have eschewed the XBox and other platforms because I've never liked their controllers, whereas the Playstation controllers just seemed intuitive and comfortable to me. As a big fan of the Splinter Cell series on the Playstation, I was crushed to hear they would not be releasing the latest game, Conviction, to the PS3. Then I heard it would be available for the PC. Yay! But wait. I can't play Splinter Cell with the keyboard and mouse, I need my controller! Enter, the Logitech Rumblepad 2. Don't be fooled, all PC controllers are NOT the same. I did my research. Many have horrible calibration issues. This one seemed to get good reviews everywhere I looked though, and lo and behold, it was patterned after the PS2/PS3 controller! (side note: it's somewhat telling, I think, that the majority of USB controllers for the PC are patterned after the PS2/3 controller and very few after the XBOX design!). So I took a chance and ordered it. As with most Amazon shipping, it arrived lickety-split. Out of the box, I installed the software, plugged it in, and it was ready to go with no additional setup or calibration. I tried it out with Splinter Cell Conviction and I gotta say, it's just as if I was playing the game on my PS3. There is NO difference. The controller feels just a fraction different because the materials are different and the button sizes are different, but there was no learning curve needed to pick this guy up and start kicking some tail as a rogue Sam Fisher. If you're looking for a USB controller for your PC and you like the PS2/3 controller design, and you're on the fence about which PC controller to get, look no further. This is the one you need to get. You won't regret it.
Customer Review: A true PC gamepad. Summary: 5 Stars
Why opt for an inferior Xbox 360 gamepad when you can get a proper PC one? Unlike the Xbox 360 pad, the Rumblepad has been designed strictly for PCs. The most important advantage of that is the actual software profiler that comes with it. You can create macros, reassign buttons, attach mouse functionality, etc etc. The Xbox 360 pad has none of these features, unless you are willing to hunt the web for non-official 3rd party apps, and even then you won't get all of them. I cannot stress enough how powerful the profiler on this thing is. Logitech has also updated it to work on Windows 7 (not that it had any issues before). The 360 controller does have one advantage over the Rumblepad however: trigger buttons. They are missing on the Logitech. Still... I can do without them, and it's definitely not something worth sacrificing the profiler for.
The rumble motors are powerful, and it feels very comfortable. The D-pad is especially good. Been using this for years on all sorts of games, ranging from 3rd person RPGs like Gothic to sports games like PES. Gothic in particular does not support gamepads, so the profiler comes very handy (you assign keyboard keys to gamepad buttons, and mouse look to analog sticks). On games where gamepads are supported all you need to do is customize the keys in-game according to your preferences.
Again, if you are looking for a PC gamepad, there is no reason to go with a console one. Choose this one instead. :)
Customer Review: Best "fighter" gamepad I've used Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this gamepad primarily to play fighting games with. I was previously using a thrustmaster which wasn't performing the way fighting games demand. After I received my Logitech gamepad I plugged it in, booted up Samurai Shodown 3 and was playing within 5 minutes and....WOW! what a difference, after kicking some serious hind-end it became apparent that this was the best fighting gamepad I have ever used. The square bezels around the analog sticks allow them to rest at perfect diagonals - great for making sure the joystick is at a true down-block position, but even better than that is the D-Pad. This is the only gamepad that I prefer using the Dpad over analog - it rolls with your thumb easily and the subtle clicks let you know that you're hitting every angle.
Besides that the controller has a solid feel, heavy (but not overly heavy)weight, fits comfortably in hands, and the buttons are responsive and not too squishy. Haven't tested out the force feedback rumble too much yet. My only complaint would be that the "mode" and "vibration" buttons would be better placed where the "9" and "10" buttons are and vice versa so the controller more closely corresponds to the familiar ps2 start/select button layout - small complaint tho. I still need to test this gamepad on other genre's but I am confident it will perform well.
overall: 9/10
Customer Review: Fast, acurate, and comfortable. Summary: 5 Stars
I am very happy with this product. The grip is comfortable, the buttons easily pressed and offering decent feedback. I do not use the rumble feature, but am especially fond of the logitech profiling software which makes it rather easy to program the controller for games that require keyboard and mouse input. My two main issues with the controller are minor ones. The first is that the analog sticks have taken up a slight slant. It does not seem to affect their functionality but it makes me worry that long term they might wear out sooner than I would like, or lean to the point where it DOES interfere. The second issue is with the software; while I am fond of it I wish there was an easier way to input keyboard commands--the software forces you to re-enter every keyboard key you are mapping to the controller for every game. When I go to add a keyboard command to a button in a new game profile, the profiler does not store any keys by default. No numerical keys, no WASD. And there is no way to quickly add a bunch of keyboard keys to the bank of commands you pull from through the GUI. It seems an easy enough thing to fix. Oh well.
I use the controller for a variety of PC games and for a few older emulated console games, and it works great for every task I set it to. An affordable, functional controller.
