Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac (Black)

Customer Review: The Mac webcam
Summary: 5 Stars

If you have a Mac and need a webcam, this is the one to get. It is a bit pricey, but in my opinion is worth the cost. I am using it with Skype, it was very quick and easy to install. It delivers a very sharp image, has excellent auto-focus, light balance and reacts well to movement - even when trying to capture my fast moving toddler.
If you're wondering what the difference is between this and the very similar looking Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000, it is that the auto-focus and light balancing features are build into the HARDWARE of this camera, and are not dependent on software running on a Microsoft OS to be utilized. That is why it is "for Mac" and why it costs a little more. I chose this camera because it is the only one I found that offers these features when used with a Mac. If you don't care about auto-focus or lighting, you may use just about any camera with your Mac and it will work, just don't bother buying one that offers those features because they are typically software based, and that software will not run on your Mac.

Customer Review: Happy Mac user
Summary: 5 Stars

This review is for Intel based Mac OS 10 user.

I use UVC for easy installation. So, my installation is simply easy plug-n-play. No installation of software or driver or whatsoever. I also use my headset for privacy. However form time to time I may use the mic that comes with this webcam, and I am still happy about the sound quality. According to my im partners, they rarely can tell the difference. I don't use auto focus feature nor movie feature, so I cannot provide info about those aspects for you. The picture quality is super. That is the main reason I bought this one, even though it is a second hand. I had several others in the past, and I had enough of the picture quality. I, myself, is also an amateur photographer. So I know a thing or two about what is the most important things when it comes to taking pictures/video. It is always lens, lens, and something else. To be short, the Carl Zeiss len on this webcam makes all the HUGE difference. You won't regret your investment on this one.

Customer Review: Awesome webcam
Summary: 5 Stars

This Web cam is GREAT!!! It is literally plug it in....play it! My husband was in China and the kids and I were able to see him and chat everyday! There was maybe a 1 second delay between talk and picture, but my gosh, it's half way across the world!! Some days we had a lot of pixeling on the picture, but other days we didn't. Wondering if it just had to do with the amount of online traffic. Otherwise the picture if very clear. We bought this for our Mac mini. Just so glad it works, cuz we originally bought a different brand from the store that said it was compatible with Mac and after an hour or trying to set it up and calling Mac support we had learned it was NOT compatible. Frustrating.

The Logiteck Quickcam vision pro for Mac is the only one Mac sells in it's retail stores too! Retail, they cost $130. To get it for $30 +tax, less, made for a good day! If you're debating between getting it or not....just get it! You'll be glad you did!

Customer Review: Mac webcam options
Summary: 5 Stars

As with all things Mac, this was more expensive than PC-based hardware. Unfortunately, I am not savvy enough to know what PC-based equipment will really work with a Mac. It seems that you end up returning a lot of stuff that says Mac compatible because it truly ain't! This definitely was a no-hassle set up. Plug and play. When iCatting with my niece she said the video was pixelated (spelling?). But I think it is probably my DSL upload rather than the webcam. I truly like the overall design of the camera. This is probably a very good webcam, but it's more than I need as a casual user. But given the potential hassles of taking a chance on buying a less expensive PC-based webcam and searching endlessly for drivers to make it work correctly, it was worth the extra money to me. The Logitech name was a plus too. I thank Logitech for taking the financial risk in producing this for those of us with Macs that are old enough to not have built in webcams.

Customer Review: Works great under Ubuntu Linux with skype!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this camera so that I could actually use it with Ubuntu Linux (8.10 Intrepid) & not a MAC. After some research it turns out the difference between this version and the QuickCam Vision Pro 9000 was that the autofocusing is done in the hardware of this camera and not the driver. So I wasn't sure if the 9000 had autofocusing support in the uvcvideo driver under Linux so I got this one instead.

Picture quality is very sharp, and the microphone is awesome! I do all my skype calls with it now, even the audio only ones. The video quality is better then a lot of the cams that come in laptops or integrated in monitors today.

Also sits on top of my monitory great! But if you have a Notebook, you should buy the Quickcam Pro for Notebook (which I have also, also excellent Linux support), as this one wouldn't sit on a Notebook very well, it also really isn't intended for travel.

Highly recommend for Linux users.
