Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 WebCam

Customer Review: Excellent webcam
Summary: 5 Stars

Coupled with Logitech's version 10 of its software, the QuickCam Pro 5000 is an excellent webcam. The angle of view is slightly wider than the earlier QuickCam Pro 4000. However, it is not so wide that you will need to use the digital zoom when you're doing a solo appearance. The image is crisp and sharp, though the newer Logitech UltraVision with its all-glass lens is far sharper - and almost twice as expensive.

Logitech has come a long way with its installation and utility software. The installation of version 10 is simple. Load 'n go. The menus have been simplified and the graphics improved. Logitech has truly made webcams accessible to anyone, not just those with technical aptitude and skills.

Operation is flawless. Still photographs are of reasonable quality, though nothing you'd want for anything truly important. Movies are fun (and a cool way to amuse a three-year old). The QuickCam Pro 5000 works without a hitch with the latest versions of Skype, AIM, Microsoft LiveMessenger and Yahoo.

Overall an excellent value for those who don't want to spend twice as much for the Logitech UltraVision or don't need the quality of the latter's all-glass lens.

Customer Review: Works just great!
Summary: 5 Stars

Ordered as a gift for a friend who wasn't even too excited about having a webcam until she received this one and used it. She instantly loved it! You can use it as plug and play (without loading the software) or take a few minutes to load the software to have the extra features. I was able to talk her through it over the phone and using Skype (free download), we were video chatting in a matter of minutes. She then emailed all her friends with her Skype name and told them to get a web cam too! I had previously purchased a Logitech webcam for my elderly mom so we could video chat and was impressed with how well it worked and how easy it was for her to use. This one is has great picture quality and again is simple to use. Great purchase for yourself or to give as a gift, even for someone who isn't very computer literate. My family lives all over the US and it's great to be able to stay in touch by video chatting, especially on holidays. I even use my webcam and Skype to stay in touch with friends in Brazil and clients in New Zealand and Australia. (using with Windows XP without any problems at all)

Customer Review: Excellent Webcam - Easy Install and Good Quality
Summary: 5 Stars

This webcam is a huge improvement over my 3 year old basic webcam. I installed this webcam on my Windows XP system using just the basic application I downloaded from Logitech and it was able to install without a hitch. I have a TV Tuner installed which has screwed up previous webcam installs including the basic Logitech webcam , but this model worked ok. The monitor stand seems robust, but I think I might have to tape the bracket to the back of my PC to prevent it from falling off. The image quality is great compared to many basic webcams, although I still see a little bit of flicker and exagerated blue tones from the reflection on my monitor. Although my previous webcam showed mostly black outlines in the same level of light. Sound quality is as good as a telephone. This webcam uses software face recognition instead of motorized pan and tilt. This is fine for me, but some extra $ will get you the real deal in face tracking. Software is easy to use for basic features and integrates with Skype well.

Customer Review: Excellent Product, WINDOWS MCE 2005 users (QOSMIO NOTEBOOK)
Summary: 5 Stars

The camera is excelent, good image, nice headphones, one of the best. I love it.
I read about some incompatibility problems with xp media center edition on some notebooks. I have the Qosmio F25 from Toshiba and its true....but easy to fix (it was easy to me). You have to disable de built in mic (from the camera), its seems to cause some problems. You can tray to disable de tv tuner too.
Go to : My Computer >> view system information >> Harware >> Device Manager >> Sound, video and game controllers >> right click on logitech microphone and disable. (if doesnt work make the same for tv tuner).....

I use the camera on my workstation pc and it work perfect, without disable anything (Pentium 4 core duo 2.8, 1 ghz RAM, windows xp pro sp 2).

Sound (Clear), Image (nice colors good exposure), wide angle view (excelent), software (easy to use and fun), good Headphones....

I really recommend

Good luck

Customer Review: This is a great deal
Summary: 5 Stars

Can only agree with the other positive reviews... After researching lots of cameras and sites, i settled on this, but had some angst from some of the problems I'd seen. can only attribute it to older versions of the software....I did the install (before connecting the camera), let it get the latest software update, finished the install, and was on the air. Great quality, the "track me" works very well. Am very pleased with this for great quality at a reasonable price, in a technology where you get what you pay for.
NOTE for mac users: There are two models of this camera.. The older one ( P/N 861205-0000, USB id 0x08c5) does not work with mac. The newer version, P/N 861306-0000 usb ID 0x08ce) does. from what i've researched, the newer models will have "rightlight 2" advertised for them. the macam project says they have someone working on a driver for the older models, but it's not there yet. So it's great for Wintel machines, get the new version for macs.
