Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech QuickCam Connect (Silver/Black)Customer Review: Good for older systems for the money Summary: 4 Stars
First, a disclaimer that I am not a You-tube-savvy video-phile, so this is by no means an expert opinion. My primary consideration for this purchase was the desktop I was using the webcam with. Since my family PC is pretty old (can you say Intel P3, 733mHz, and 768MB RAM? - yuch!!), many of the newer, flashier, and more expensive webcams were not spec'd to work with it. From what I read as I researched the purchase, this is one of Logitech's older designs. It's also one of the least expensive webcams you'll find from any of the standard quality vendors.
That being said, this is a very functional camera, and seems to serve its purpose well. I'm using it with Skype, and it required very minimal setup in terms of both time and effort. It's not going to to blow you away with its picture quality, but I think that's more a function of spec than design. The kids have fun with it, even if the video often lags behind and you get that "now I'm here, swish, now I'm here..." kind of effect. I also had to play a bit with the mic levels to keep it from cutting out, but that seems a standard configuration issue. Just out of curiousity, i set it up with my late model Dell laptop (Core2 Duo, 2GB RAM), and the cam performed the same way as on the older system, so again, I guess that's just the older design.
I'm sure it was a blast for people 5 years ago, but with the technology advancing so quickly, I tend to think it's more than a little behind the curve in terms of video quality. But for the price, ease of use, and compatibility with older systems, it's very much worth a try.
Customer Review: QuickCam Connect-Excellent Camera for the cost involved Summary: 4 Stars
I'd suggest readers look at the entire review - a good application of the camera at the end. Questions welcome to a_[...] I have used this camera on a number of computers. It, like most of the cameras, will function, but not well, using USB 1.1. FIL was quite dissatisfied with the camera until we realized the slow port was the problem - a hasty diagnosis many might overlook this and blame the camera. Using 2.0 was fine.
Maybe of value to some - I use a small Acer Aspire One, built in camera in the lid, but wanted more flexibility in and out of skype. I installed the QuickCam software, then the camera when prompted, and found, as Acer explained, that the QC becomes the active camera when the USB is connected. I can now (with the camera and light 'ears only' headphones attached) carry the computer, lid closed and in a shoulder sling carrier, and skype without difficulty, directing the lens and sound as I wish. I can take this out of WiFi range for video conversations, even in the car, using a very effective AT&T 3G.
I would prefer a flat, against the chest shape camera versus the eyeball shape, but after looking at the Labtec 1200 reviews am not so willing to compromise quality even with the lower cost. I'm not really convinced more expensive would be 'mo betta'. Any suggestions toward a flatter camera welcome.
Customer Review: Great camera, for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I've never had any issues with a Logitech product, no matter what it was. The Logitech QuickCam is another great product from the trustworthy brand and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I actually bought this for a Christmas gift for my parents so that they could talk with my sister and her family in NY.
Installation was very quick and simple and in a matter of minutes, we were up and running. The quality was pretty good-not great, but for the price that I payed, it'll do the trick just fine. The image is not garbled or distorted in any way and the sound quality of the mic is very good too. It sits perfectly on my parent's LCD just fine and is very small and attractive. All in all, another great product from Logitech!
Customer Review: It does the job Summary: 4 Stars
I bought 2, one for us and one for our daughter to use so we could see her and our grandson using an instant messenger application. She could never get it to work right on her computer so she returned it to us. We ended up giving it to our son and he got it working fine on his computer. So now we can see each other when we use an instant messenger application like Skype. The quality is OK for the price we paid. My son tends to have a lot of sound problems with his but I'm not sure how he has his set up. Personally, I haven't had any problems with mine. It does take snapshots pretty good.
Customer Review: View from the Quickcam for grandpa Summary: 4 Stars
The main use for this device was for grandma and granpa to do Skype calls with family. Installation of Quickcam and Skype was easy enough, but getting the mike and sound settings was less than easy, at least the first time around. Once setup was complete, the performance features were quite satisfactory (resolution, field of view, light sensitivity, etc.), although response time was rather slow. However, for occasional and casual use, it was very good value, and I would recommend it heartily to grandparents such as us.
