This camera has a good microphone, and outstanding video for a fairly inexpensive webcam. It worked out of the box in Linux (Kubuntu Feisty), both sound and video. The camera was quick and easy to set up, and has excellent resolution for the price. We use it for video conferencing with our daughter who is at a distant university, and it works well with any "instant messaging" program, and Skype.
