Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2)Customer Review: Logitech trackball type mice are great! Summary: 5 Stars
This is the 3rd time I have purchased a Logitech trackball type mouse.
The others are still in working order and are still getting a lot of use.
The first Logitech mouse I bought was the Trackman Marble, which I have now used for about 10 years (??), or so, probably more. That mouse requires you to move the cursor with a trackball located on the left side of the mouse, meaning you move the ball with your thumb.
This style, I think is designed better, as the ball is in the middle and you can use various fingers to move the ball, meaning that your thumb is not doing all of the 'work'.
Note, however, that it does take a bit of getting used to: you move the mouse cursor by rolling the ball around with your fingers.
The software is simple to install and lets you adjust the sensitivity of the trackball. Using the software, you can also program (various preset options available)the two little light gray buttons at the top of each of the right and the left (dark gray) mouse buttons.
As the mouse itself stays put, I find that it cuts down on the stress on my hands. As I am not constantly shoving a mouse here and there, my hands cramp less and using this type of mouse is less stress on my arms/shoulders.
All in all, a great mouse for a reasonable price!
Customer Review: The best Trackball out there Summary: 5 Stars
I have long been a fan of Logitech products, and once again they have raised the bar! I don't know why anyone still uses a mouse. I prefer using a trackball because it fits in a small space on the desktop and it does not cause the fatigue that you get using a traditional mouse. I use this device extensively for fine graphics work, as well as major surf time. I used to use a Kensington Trackball, because at the time, it was the only one designed to be manipulated with your fingers, instead of your thumb. The optical marble mouse does the Kensington one better. The "optical" part of the title says it all. There are no rollers or little crevices for hair and gunk to get caught up in under the ball. I spent more time cleaning my previous mice and trackballs than anything else! Whenever that cursor starting jumping around the screen and skipping over the places I wanted it to go--I knew it was time to ditch the mouse and get a new one. This optical marble mouse has no rollers. It is very easy to keep clean--and so far (8months) I have had none of the problems of my previous mice. The accompanying software for this trackball also has some nice shortcut features. I have one button programmed to instantly "minimize all open windows." A really nifty trick if you have to blank your monitor quickly.....like when the boss is coming around :)
Customer Review: Unbelievably Impressive Summary: 5 Stars
I love my Logitech Optical Marble Mouse. Working many hours at the PC each day, my index finger used to ache from clicking and dragging all day. So I went to a mechanical trackball type mouse for about a year. The pain sent away very quickly, but that doggone trackball would get stuck now and then, even from the very beginning. I would pop out the old ball and clean it out with a paperclip or a ballpoint pen, but it was only a matter of time until it would be clogged up again with ultra fine lint of some sort. When I tried to clean it the last time, I used compressed air, which comes out very cold, and I actually froze something inside the trackball assembly. When I was trying to dislodge it, I wound up breaking it completely. Good job, Mikey. So I bought this Logitech Marble Mouse... and Wow! The first five minutes felt a little stiff, but then the trackball freed up and it works great! Smooth, reliable, and no hang-ups. The buttons are perfectly placed for right and left clicking with your ring finger and thumb. Plus, it's symmetric, so right or left-handers can use it equally as well. The final bonus is that it looks like it's out of Star Trek. Whenever someone comes into my office, they look at it as if to say "What the heck is that crazy thing?" I highly recommend this product. It's the bomb!
Customer Review: The One & Only for me! Summary: 5 Stars
I was introduced to this product by my husband who swore about how easy it was to use.
At the beginning it was a bit weird, but eventually I learned to appreciate it's easy to use, and precision.
I love how it molds to the natural shape of your hand and I soon realized that after years of suffering from occasional flairs of carpal tunnel syndrome, this was the perfect solution!! Since I no longer have to move the hand all over the place, but instead just use my fingers to move the trackball, the strain on my wrist became minimal and my pain simply disappeared!
The mouse is so easy to clean! Just pull the trackball off and wipe the sensors!! It's that easy!!
The only drawback? If you happen to drop the ball while cleaning it and dent it even if it is just a tiny minuscule way, consider yourself doomed! You will need to replace the trackball in order to accomplish smooth movement on your mouse.
Overall, this is the BEST mouse for the money! I keep going back to this same model every time I think about buying a new mouse (my baby kept stealing the trackballs and losing them or denting them).
I have purchased this mouse for my PC at home, at my office and even for my laptop! I love it and would recommend it to anyone and everyone!!
Customer Review: Long live this mouse! Summary: 5 Stars
I've used this mouse for about 5 years now and have one at work and one at home. I've been lucky enough to not suffer from wrist fatigue and believe it's this mouse!
You can program the smaller buttons to do whatever you like which adds to the functionality. I sit in a recliner and having a track ball mouse is ideal since I don't have a surface to support a regular mouse. Having a usb cord connection isn't really an issue either since you don't move the mouse around much and the cord is long enough to allow you to sit a bit away from the monitor.
Only problem I have is that I've dropped the ball quite a number of times and it has some scratches/dents which make it a little finicky for precision work (like in Photoshop). I am buying a new ball today which will put it back to excellent precision - like new!!
I have tried the Kensington Orbit (too clunky) and the Logitech Cordless (the trackball is in an odd place for me) If you're a lefty you're in luck too because it's good for either!
I recommend this mouse to all my friends and now to all of you looking at it wondering if you should buy it. When I bought mine they were $40 or $50 so at $22 it's a great deal! Try it out.
