Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MX3200 Cordless Desktop Laser (Black)Customer Review: Great keyboard/mouse combo. Some annoyances. Summary: 5 Stars
The Logitech MX 3200 Cordless Desktop is a very nice keyboard plus mouse combo that is much sturdier and refined than prior mainstream desktop combos from Logitech.
The keyboard battery claims of eighteen months, time/month display on the keyboard, sleep and calculator shortcut keys, and touch-sensitive scroll bar on the keyboard are small, but collectively great appointments.
Away goes the recharging mouse cradle of my trusty MX 700, leaving a USB radio no bigger than a flash memory stick. The mouse ergonomics feel comfortable even for large hands like mine. The mouse also comes in a left-handed version, which is great if you suffer from RSI and need to switch hands often.
Pros
* Virtually silent typing. The keys landing is soft and the click muted.
* The ergonomics are great. The palm rest slopes at the base of the hand, so no pressure on the bony part between the hand and wrist.
* Large surface keys. The edge is also raise slightly, and towards the sides rather than towards the typist. Typing lands on the key center every time for me, where other keyboards tend to hit the edge raised instead.
* Shorter keys travel. Not quite scissor (laptop) keys, but very good for a standard keyboard.
* Multimedia buttons work in Windows XP without installing additional software. This is great at work as most companies do not allow installing non-approved software.
* Time and date display on the keyboard is convenient.
Cons
* The Escape key is small, and so are the function keys. They are half the standard height.
* The Delete key is over-sized, and the Insert key is next to F12. Ditto if you are acostumed to copy/paste text using Ctrl/Shift plus Insert.
* Lefty beware: Location of scroll strip. This is the keyboard equivalent of the scroll wheel on the mouse is at the left spine of the keyboard. If you are lefty or switch hands, and rest your hand on the edge of the keyboard when not mousing, get ready to watch the screen scroll when least expected.
* Time and date display readable only (about forty-five degrees viewing angle) in front of the keyboard.
One additional note is that Logitech stands behind their products. This set replaces my defective four-year old MX Duo, and the company sent me a brand new set.
Four stars for the product, plus one for great Logitech Support. Recommended.
Customer Review: What a great find! Summary: 5 Stars
I am an avid gamer and a big time computer enthusiast in general. I just built my very first rig not too long ago and wanted to complement it with a wireless desktop/mouse combo. I have never used wireless input devices for a computer before so I was pretty much taking a chance on a new product. I read the reviews on Amazon and they seemed pretty great considering that almost 1 out of every 6 or 7 wireless devices will probably have some sort of defect ranging from DOA (rare) to problems that don't become apparent till after 6 months of use such as battery consumption or connectivity. I didn't want to pay 75 bucks for it so I looked at the used resellers. There was one that was "factory refurbished" which came with free super saver shipping from Amazon for 45 bucks. I took a chance and hit the buy button.
I have owned the combo for about two weeks now so I can't tell you about long term issues. However, everything was working great out of the box. I didn't get an owner's manual or any batteries with the refurbished product but something like that was to be expected. The keyboard wasn't immediately recognized by the wireless adapter but after installing the program from the CD and SECURING the keyboard connection* (key point for those who are having similar issues)it was working just fine. The mouse was a step up for me from my previous mouse both in comfort and in performance. Personally, I like the different options and tweaks that the Logitech software provides. Some people might just prefer to use the product without any additional software to hassle with, and it will still work just fine. I really like the freedom that I have without any restrictive wires. Also, the black mouse and keyboard look phenomenal on my desk as I have a black theme going with all my computer peripherals.
Final word: Highly recommended. Although, I would suggest doing a little more research to find this product for ten or twenty bucks cheaper if possible.
Customer Review: Great Combo Summary: 5 Stars
I'm typing on the keyboard right now, it's great. The keyboard doesn't "lag" and the mouse is superb. Its light and sharp. I've only had it for a shot time, but I haven't had a single problem yet. The key design is fluid and "futuristic" so it takes a while to get used to typing on it, but once you do, it becomes much easier. I haven't installed the drivers, so I can't speak for any extra features.
The LCD may be a bother to some, and useful to others. For me, it's unnecessary but not a problem. The F-keys and other extra buttons, on top, are a little small but again, not a problem. My previous set war a Microsoft Desktop Elite, so this is an improvement. I used the mouse that came with this keyboard for a while, but I already have a Logiteck MX 1000 Cordless Mouse so I keep it as a backup. The mouse that comes with the keyboard is good for moderate web-surfing but not that good for gaming.
Overall Keyboard 9/10
-Excellent functionality!
-Looks nice
- No problems whatsoever (with function)
-Some keys are just too small
-No need for the LCD
-Side "zoom" is responsive but not very helpful
Mouse 7/10
-Good, light design
-Good battery life
-Not very good for gaming
Customer Review: Excellent Keyboard and Mouse Worth the Money! Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this mouse and keyboard, working on my new Vista (That's right folks!) system for about three weeks now. They work excellently, form typing reports and emails, to playing intense video games. The range is decent, the extra keyboard functions are actually quite useful once you get used to them and the layout is aesthetically pleasing. Not to mention the keyboard keys are both extremely responsive, quiet, and comfortable - in addition to being customizable.
Vista auto-installed to working capacity, specific drivers were easily installed to allow for use of advanced features and customization. The battery life seems good so far.
Three months later the batters that were supplied with the original unit are giving out in the mouse. At issue is the fact that the "Critical Battery Level" warning doesn't appear to be particularly critical so much as extremely annoying. A red light pulses on top of the mouse and at random times a messages pops up from the taskbar, above a consistently appearing battery low icon. Needless to say, while batter life still seems to be good (I have yet to replace them - just ignoring the warnings for now) yet at the same time the mouse has no idea what the battery life is or will be and becomes an unreliable nuisance.
Customer Review: Most comfortable and easy to use Keyboard Mouse Combo - No install needed - Plug-and-Use... Summary: 5 Stars
I absolutly love this product!
Here is my story: I had this keyboard mouse combo before and used it 2 years. Finally one of my kids stepped on the wireless transmitter and killed the little device. I was not able to get the replacement yet but couldn't wait longer to get it working again. So I order a complete new set after I tried several other combo set's and wasn't happy at all.
This set is absolutely hassle free and is the best quality I was able to find out there. No problems or interference with other devices. Long battery life without turning the device off ever.
The keyboard feels just fantastic from the quality for all day use.
I just put my laptop behind my external flatscreen LCD monitor and have this combo set in front and use it constantly as a desktop. Once I have to hit the road, I take the laptop out of the docking station and run.
Coming back, no reboot, just plug it back in and use your external wireless keyboard and mouse.
Want to surf the Internet relaxed in your living room at the big flatpanel LCD. Just connect your laptop to the TV and sit relaxed with your wireless keyboard and mouse on your couch and surf the net.
ENJOY!
