Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech MX 518 High Performance Optical Gaming Mouse (Metal)

Customer Review: Built to last
Summary: 5 Stars

There are lots of reviews that I'm sure cover the technical aspects of the mouse. I am going to focus this review on one aspect, durability.

I've had this mouse so long I'm not sure when exactly I got it. My best guess is I bought it at a Best Buy at least 5 years ago. I am a pc gamer and also in the United States Navy 5 years now. I have brought this mouse with me everywhere including 3 deployments (including Afghanistan and Iraq) I have put this mouse through hell, and it is still ticking with all the buttons intact and functioning. I've nicked and scratched the body and 2 of the 5 footpads have worn off through heavy use and abuse.

The only complaint I can think of is the texture of the mouse, it is slick plastic going down the center, which isn't the best. For that reason I plan on geting a G5 for my next mouse. (that and the G5 has cool features like removable weights)

If you want a mouse that can take a beating give this one a chance.

Customer Review: excelente mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer Review: Great for gaming, but not JUST a gaming mouse. Works with Vista 64-bit!
Summary: 5 Stars

I upgraded to this mouse a few months ago because I wanted a higher DPI mouse for both games, and normal use. I purchased this one after reading reviews here, and on a few other web pages. The reviews were right: this mouse is excellent.

Pros:

Fast, accurate and precise movement

The three settings for speed that can be changed on the fly. This feature is very useful when you need fast-twitch action one second, and more precision the next.

Smooth, almost frictionless. Glides over my mouse pad.

Easy software set up, although Vista doesn't need any drivers to run it. (I'm on Vista 64-bit, and this mouse works perfectly).

Cons:

I'm not a fan of the "claw and tooth mark" finish. Just a preference, and doesn't detract from its performance.

If you want a reasonably priced, fast, accurate and precise mouse for games and other applications, look to further.

Customer Review: Excellent for price and great quality
Summary: 5 Stars

Don't buy another mouse because it has higher DPI. Sure the other mouses can reach 4500 DPI or 6000 DPI, but in reality, even 1000 DPI is too much for me. I bought this mouse because of its price (I got it for $25 on Black Friday) and boy was it a steal. This mouse is great quality and really easy to use: just plug in and play. If you want to make the buttons specialize in something else than their given functions, then pop in the CD and install... but once you pop in the CD and install the software (called SetPoint) to change the mouse buttons, you don't need the CD anymore. You can just click on the shortcut on your taskbar or desktop or whatever.

I wish you could make the thumb buttons change the sensitivity while in-game because using the given sensitivity change buttons is a hassle (you have to move your middle finger into an awkward position to press them). I also wish you could go below 400 DPI.

This mouse is a great buy otherwise!

Customer Review: Long fingers? Hope you don't scroll
Summary: 5 Stars

Long fingers beware! I am a tall person with long skinny fingers. My fingers go over the front of this mouse when my thumb is in place. This makes it very difficult to middle mouse click without a full adjustment of your hand. In otherwords, in the middle of a big match and need to middleclick? You're going to be taking precious seconds to readjust.

I normally end up grippng the mouse from it's very back so my fingers are already in the natural place to scroll/middleclick. This throws off the ability to utilize the two arrow buttons on the left side (which are good for web browsing back/forward buttons).

I bought this mouse thinking it would be a good fit with my large hands, I was wrong. It is very uncomfortable.

But if you don't have long fingers, (shorter than 6 feet in height) I would highly recommend this mouse. Had it for 3 years so far and hasn't missed a beat in 6 house moves and countless drops/tangles/dogs/abuse.
