Customer Review: A Mouse for Every Gamer
Summary: 5 Stars

I didn't really need a new mouse, but I wanted to promote my mouse to a more gaming feel. At the time of purchase, there was a $15 rebate available from Logitech for this item, so for about $25, it seemed like this was the time to upgrade.

I did a fair bit of research into gaming mouse products, and resisted my urge to go with something flashy. I am very happy with my MX518, and though it requires software to switch between sensitivity settings, it's only the slightest inconvenience to take full advantage of this mouse's capabilities. The mouse is slightly tapered to the right (sorry lefties, but this will present a MAJOR issue for you!), so that it fits surprisingly comfortably in the had, with a cutout for the thumb that gives great control. I don't use the extra top buttons too much, but the two on the left side of the mouse are very accessible and easy to get used to. All in all, this gives you quick access to a total of four buttons compared to the normal two.

All and all, it's a very solid investment, especially if you can get a good deal on it under $30 (as most USB mouses run for $15-20 anyway, you might as well invest in this). High end gamers of the FPS genre will get an edge out of this, as well as the casual gamers because of the short learning curve. Outside of gaming, the buttons can be used to perform complex keystrokes. If you've been looking for a new mouse, look no further.

Customer Review: Great customizable mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I have decent-sized hands and the mouse fits into them perfectly. The glossy finish over the metal design is smooth but not smooth to the point where your fingers are slipping. I bought the corded after disliking a cordless mouse that came with my laptop (it was an older, cheaper kensington). The cordless mouse seemed to take an annoying split-second to register and had a hard time on my desks surface.

I bought a mouse pad for this corded logitech mouse and the reaction time is incredible. The best part about the mouse is the fully-customizable buttons. The 5 buttons (excluding the right, left, and wheel click, are fully customizable. The thumb buttons are great for forward and back on the internet. I programmed one of the buttons to maximize my browsers screen incase i had a large page with a lot of context to read. The default customized buttons on the mouse are set to increase/decrease mouse speed/sensitivity, maximize and minimize screens, and go forward and back on the browser. Decreasing mouse speed comes in handy when you want to highlight fine print or use paint and work in a smaller area. Increasing it of course is nice when you have a lot of areas to click all over the screen.

If you have a 3-click (left, right, wheel) regular mouse and use programs that require the repeated clicking of buttons, it is time to rethink and get one of these bad boys.

Customer Review: Strong Durable Mouse!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned this mouse for about 3 years now. Bought it around the same time i bought a new gaming rig. A bit skeptical on the look and feel i tried it out and instantly fell in love with it.

The thing i like the most about it isn't the feel, the buttons, or how comfortable it feels while using it (those are all great perks on here) but how much hell one can put it through.

I love gaming, and do it everyday on my PC, and with hours of gaming comes endless piles of soft drink cans and bottle, along with other drinks! I spilt a Dr Pepper all over it the first time and i was terrified after a few hours it would cease to exist, but to my amazement, it didn't phase it one bit. I have put it through hell, and, i can say, mistreated it! Spilling coke on it at least a good 5 times and yet it still holds up!

I hate to see such negative reviews on such a great GREAT add-on to your computer.

Another perk are the buttons on the left side of the mouse where your thumb is located. It is a forward and backwards button. Perfect if you love surfing the web quickly! Makes moving between pages extremely fast and efficient. I also noticed it is an auto-run button for World of Warcraft (Haha).

I would recommend this product for anyone, gamer and average computer user alike. You can't go wrong with this! Logitech is a great company!

Customer Review: A Real Gaming Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great gaming mouse. If customizable wieght and even higher dpi is really necessary, then go for the g5. I used the g5 for a few weeks and decided 2000 dpi was too much since I wasn't even using it at that at that high sensetivity, I also found the wieght system annoying becuase I kept thinking that I might need to change the wieght when ever I died. The mx518 was exactly what I needed. I love this but rarely use the on the fly sensitivity change feature while playing games, more for picture editing. My favorite feature is the left and right clicker on the side of the mouse which is fully customizable. I uses it in firefox to switch tabs in a second with ctrl+pgup and ctrl+pgdn! then I binded the window switcher to close the tab too (ctrl+w). Surfing the web is 10 times faster now. The g5 did allow you to have multiple programs know different commands without changing it on the mouse, sadly I wasn't able to do this on the mx518 :(. But when I really need to change it, it just takes a second. Also, you don't have to install any software to still be able to use the auto sensitivity switcher, but not any other shortcuts on the mouse, if you need to free up processes running the in background. Overall, it's an excellent mouse worth the price.

Customer Review: Excellent Gaming Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

I am constantly looking for the next great thing when it comes to gaming mice. I have owned this mouse for about 3 years now and I recently switched back to it after trying a Logitech G7 (loved it, but the left click button died) and a Logitech G9 (loved the DPI but never got used to the weird shape).

What I love about this mouse is the feel, Logitech got it right (at least for right handed people). It is responsive and you can adjust the DPI with the buttons on the mouse (no software needed). This is extremely helpful when playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 as you switch from on foot to in vehicle. If you up the DPI you can spin the weapons faster on the vehicle, when you are on foot you can lower it for more accuracy, and even lower it again if you are a recon class and trying to snipe.

It is a slightly older unit, but given that I still use it after this long it speaks volumes for the design. It of course has the back button for your thumb that you can use while web surfing and I map it for push to talk when playing online as well. My only complaint is that it does not offer the super high DPI settings of the G9 (1600 DPI for the MX518 vs 3200 DPI for the G9) but that is a small price to pay for comfort.
