Customer Review: Awesome Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

Been using this mouse for about 4 years now. It's reached the point where my thumb has worn a spot off of the thumb ledge on the left side, and the plastic around the scroll wheel is losing its color from all the abrasion.

About 4 years ago, I sat down to find myself a nice, sturdy gaming mouse that would take abuse and keep chugging. I didn't want a wireless mouse, because I didn't want to futz with batteries. I eventually came across the MX 510, and cast my lot.

With any luck, this mouse will last me another few years. It shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. I have thrown it into backpacks, dropped it on hardwood floors, crushed it under heavy objects (like myself) and so on. I have played games wherein I found it necessary to click repeatedly on a button, or item or somesuch. The MX 510 not only has a light button touch (perhaps a little *too* light) but it can take hundreds of clicks and not change. The click is still the same as when I took it out of the box.

The buttons above the thumb are great. I use mine for forward and backward in my browser. However, I never really find myself using the scroll buttons before and aft of the scroll wheel.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a sturdy, BIG mouse which can take a beating and keep on truckin'

Customer Review: Excellent product but somewhat dubious value
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this mouse after losing my old MX500 during a move. In general, I would say that you should buy the MX510 only if you don't have the MX500 and play games a lot. It's definitely better than the MX500 in terms of tracking but only if you turn the sensitivity way up. There are few situations outside of certain games where this is necessary so it's questionable how benefitial this improved tracking really is.

The only other difference between this and the MX500 is the holographic cover. This "feature" has no functional purpose other than to look pretty so it's of dubious value.

The MX510 retails for approximately $10-$15 more than the MX500 but aside from better performace in certain games and a different look, it's functionally the same. Thus one has to make a value judgement as to which is better.

At the time of writing, Logitech announced the MX1000, the replacement of the MX700, which is the cordless version of the MX500. The MX1000 features "laser tracking" which is supposedly 20 times better than the current MX sensor and also has a 5.8 megabit resolution. Since Logitech is sure to release a corded version of the MX1000, one might want to wait for this instead of buying the MX510 now.

Customer Review: More than Your Average Mouse
Summary: 5 Stars

Let me preface this review by saying that while I play games--both arcade and RPG (role playing)--on my computer, I never felt like I somehow needed a special mouse for that purpose. I'm still not sure for me that I can tell the difference.

That said, I think that for regular everyday use, this mouse is spectacular. I got one at work and liked it so much that I came home and ordered one for home use.

The fact that it's optical is, of course, fantastic and if you haven't made the transition from the mouse with the moving parts that you have to shake or slam on your desk when it gets stuck, PLEASE try an optical mouse. Even if you didn't know how bad things were before, you will appreciate the improvement.

There are extra buttons on this mouse and I thought that I would just ignore them...I used to be a skeptic on bells and whistles. Sheesh, silly. Now with a slight movement of my fingers, I can move forward or back in my internet browser. Or I can quickly and easily alternate back and forth between open windows through a different button on the mouse.

And through the software, you can customize the mouse to do different things if those don't suit you. A worthwhile buy!

Customer Review: Excellent Mouse with many custom buttons
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great mouse, for gamer or regular computer user (like me). It features excellent tracking, great ergonomic design, easy to use buttons and good software.

I'm comparing this with Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer SE, which i purchased just a month prior to this month, but returned.

Ergonomic design - the nod goes to Logitech. The MS mouse is little too tall, and it dug extremely uncomfortably into the middle of my palm.

Wheel operation - the nod here goes to MS. The wheel on Microsoft's explorer mouse is a marvel of modern technology - it's extremely smooth, and if were not for the bad ergonomic design, I'd kept the MS mouse.

Tracking - the nod goes to Logitech. It features excellent tracking and smooth mouse movement.

Button location - nod goes to Logitech - the buttons layout is excellent

Number of buttons - the nod goes to Logitech - it features 8 buttons and they're all reconfigurable! I like to have an F5 button, a back/forward button, an F3 button and a close program button -- at the tip of my fingers, and this mouse does it all!

Overall, it's excellent, 5 stars!

Customer Review: Best mouse I have bought so far
Summary: 5 Stars

The MX510 is a great mouse for gamers and normal PC users. Fit fit for me was great and after egttign attuned to the mouse I woulg never go back to the other very good Logitech cordless mouse I had been using. That took three days or so of regular use as my muscle memory got used to the new buttons and having a corded mouse again.

The control and feel of the MX510 is good and it really does make a difference in games. The buttons are well placed and all are very useful (page back, page forward, change window, scroll up, scroll down, etc.). It is well cbuilt and the rubber surface along the edges really makes for a good feel while the pearlized buttons and top look nice (I chose the blue, but the red is swank also). The fact that it is IR as opposed to a ball makes this a perfect replacement if you have not made this leap yet.

For sub 30 dollars this mouse is well worth the price. It would have been nice if it were cordless as it has a much better feel than the models higher up in this line that are. Of course there are no batteries or charging to worry about either.

Buy it and don;t look back.
