I got this because the wire on my old mouse (also logitech) gets caught on the back of the desk when you slide out the shelf to use the keyboard/mouse. I just plugged the usb chip in and it works! can't beat that. This mouse works great. I love it. The mouse clicks are silent, the wireless feature is excellent, plug and play with Windows XP and Linux (I use Ubuntu 8), batteries still going strong, great price, and the forward/backward features for web browsing are awesome- no setup involved and works with IE and Firefox.Customer Review: Logitech LX7 Cordless Mouse

The install on the mouse is plug and play, the software however needs to be downloaded from the web (if you have a dial-up connection, it will talk awhile). Great little optical mouse. Not too big, not too small. Purchased this for my laptop. Most mouses made for laptops are just too small. Mouse is accurate and has some great features. I especially like the enlargement function I use when I edit photos. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.
