Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony Xbox 360 Remote

Customer Review: Best universal remote, period
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to setup and use, this Harmony remote may well be one of the best universal remotes to date. Guys, this will be the best electronic gift your wife will actually thank you for (this and a TiVo)! This specific version has a few extra buttons to help simplify interactions with an Xbox 360. Also, it feels great in your hand; it fits nicely, is well-balanced and the arrangement of the buttons is highly functional as well as beautiful.

Easy to setup:
Using the supplied USB cable, you plug the remote to your computer, go to the Logitech website where you pick the different pieces of equipment you own (yup, their database is huge and covers just about everything). The system automatically programs the remote to handle about 99% of everything. That left over 1% is for the A/V geeks (like me) who want a little extra customization for those not-so mainstream functions and features.

Easy to use:
It's an activity or task based remote. If you want to watch a DVD, you press the "Watch a DVD" button and the remote sends all the right signals in the right order to all the relevant audio and video equipment. When you're ready to switch activities, just press the "Activity" button to see the list and pick your next activity. So, when you switch from watching a DVD to playing the radio, it automatically turns on and off the right devices, changes settings, and gets you ready for listening to the radio. When you're totally done, press the power button and all the right devices shut off.

This is a must-have product that will stay in your top ten list of "loved electronics." This is truly an all around well design product.

Customer Review: Great product, lives up to the hype!

Like most people, my coffee table was filled with remotes. TV, cable box, stereo, DVD player, etc. I've tried my cable remote's "universal" functions and other universal remotes, and none of them ever really worked very well. Or they would work great on one or two devices, and not on my stereo. Finally, the worst part was explaining to guests (especially my parents) how to turn on the TV if I'm not there or asleep ("Power on the TV with this remote, make sure the input is on HDMI, now power on the cable, etc).

The Harmony Xbox 360 is the first remote that works on every device I throw at it, and the Activities concept is so simple I'm wondering why more technology doesn't work this way. Everyone who comes over is instantly able to work my TV, play the Xbox, watch DVDs, etc. And if something goes out of sync you just click "Help" and it helpfully asks which devices are not powered on. Easy!

My only complaint, and it's a very small one, is the lack of a global Sleep function for when I might fall asleep watching TV and want it to power off automatically. As it stands, I have to activate the Sleep function of each device, and then the next morning the remote is out of sync (because it didn't power the devices off itself, the remote doesn't know they were ever turned off). A global Sleep function in the remote would be great, but you'd have to fall asleep with the remote pointed in the general direction of all the devices you want powered off.

Overall, my life (or at least my enjoyment of leisure time) has improved since I bought this remote.

Customer Review: Great! I wish I'd gotten this sooner!

Using my system - TV, DVD, and PC which serves as a music server, and PVR, prior to getting this remote was a great source of frustration to my wife and therefore to me. :-) She could not master my universal remote. This thing she loves!

Now all we do is pick from buttons with names we picked ourselves. Watch TV, Watch TV with Stereo, Play music - which starts iTunes on the PC, Watch Recorded - which starts Sage TV on the PC, etc. And the Harmony remote does the rest.

It sets everything up after you press one of those activity buttons. The cool thing is that it knows the state of everything. It leaves on what it needs and turns off everything else. And if for some reason things get out of synch there's even a Help button on the remote! Press it and via a series of questions you respond to eventually gets things straight every time!

You also have direct control over any of the devices and every single button that's on the original remote will be accessible via buttons named like your original remote's on the Harmony.

I can't say enough good things about this remote. My wife sure likes it. She doesn't need me any more to watch a DVD or play music. She can do it herself now. If you have a complicated system to use I highly recommend you check out any of the Harmony series of remotes. They all work the same way as far as controlling things. You pay more for color displays and rechargeable batteries. I'd pick the one you think looks the best.

Customer Review: Really brings the room together
Summary: 5 Stars

This is my first Harmony remote and I DO have a 360. If there is an easier way to combine all the various elements of my home theater, I can't imagine what it would be.

The price was high, but has now dropped to more realistic "under $100" and in my opinion is well worth it.

Of all the many great features you have already read about in other reviews, let me also say that the degree of compatibility with different components is in depth.

I have an HD cable box, and I have complete functionality, going into guide, scanning schedules, setting to record, accessing HBO on-demand...everything works great!

Also, for the first time in a very, very long time, I can control DVD playback through my 360 while contolling volume on my AV receiver without having to switch between components. No jumping back and forth.

Maybe coolest of all is the one touch activity where you tell the remote you want to watch a DVD and it turns everything on, tunes it to the right channel or input and VOILA, you are ready to rock. Then you want to play 360 and it automatically takes care of all the steps required to switch over.

Since updates come from the website, the remote is future-proof.
I plan on getting the HD DVD player for the 360 and I have no doubt that a simple update to my remote will give me complete control, being that it's all Xbox 360 friendly.

I got this for Father's day 2006 and I will be using this remote for a very, very long time.

Customer Review: Great remote, great price!

I'm brand new to the world of Universal Remotes. I searched high and low, read many reviews and attempted to filter through the differences between them all.

Logitech seemed like the brand of choice for most people and they have a wide array of choices. I knew that I didn't want to spend a lot of money, if I didn't have to. This remote became the obvious solution to use in conjunction with the XBox360, otherwise I would have gone with the Harmony 510 (which seems to be the same remote for users without XBox360).

The main difference between this remote and the high end remote is the lack of a "touch screen" and "battery charger". If you don't want/need either of those things, don't spend the money.

Getting the remote ready to operate my equipment was a breeze. I am an avid Mac user, so clearly a bit wary of how well a Logitech product would work. But, all went smooth. After installing the software on your computer, just plug the remote in via a USB cable provided and you're on your way.

If something isn't working properly after you've set your remote up, the remote is helpful in attempting to diagnose the problem and you can always go back and tweak or add settings later. Once I had mine programmed, I went back to the computer to program extra feature buttons for different devices.

So far I have my remote controlling a new Samsung 52" LCD TV, an old Pioneer AV Receiver, a new Samsung Blu Ray player, a Bose SoundDock and my XBox360.
