Customer Review: Have too many remotes? Harmony is your solution
Summary: 5 Stars

This remote is too good to be true, at first when in the process of buying the remote, I was a little hesitant since all univeral remotes promote the samething blah blah blah!! But when I saw that it was from Logitech, I checked the website itself and was amazed with the details about the product! So I decided to get it since I trusted the company very much and let me tell you IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!!! Besides the fact that I also have an XBOX 360, this remote was even able to physically replace the HD-DVD remote that Microsort has and EVERY SINGLE REMOTE I HAVE!!

It's awesome and just incredibly intelligent remote, it's able to know upto 175,000 devices (I think that's what the website says lol) and let me tell you, they're NOT KIDDING!!! From remote controlled lights/dimmers, I think even AIR Conditioners lol EVERYTHING you can possibly have near your entertainment console or TV set-up!

There are a few technical issues that you have to deal with like a 5-6 hour learning curve with regards to programming all of your equipment and how you want them to turn on, what you want the system to do when you want to select a certain activity. For example, I have the activity (as it's called on the remote) to "Watch a Movie," and let's say I'm watching TV, well I just press this button to "Watch a Movie," and it switches the TV to the Video Input that my HD-DVD is on (or wherever your DVD player or BLu-Ray is on), turns off the cable box, turns ON my Receiver for the Surround sound, has the volume set on the receiver since that's what I use to turn up/down the volume AND, get this, I can even make it OPEN THE DISC TRAY all in one setting. lol All this sounds cool, but you have to sit there and program the damn thing for like hours!!! since you deal with time issues, how long it takes for everything to turn on etc etc. BUT WELL WORTH IT! sorry for talkin so much but I hope this helped anyone thinking about getting this! PEACE!!!

Customer Review: Excellent Universal Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are controlling multiple components this is a MUST have. The system I am controling with my Harmony 360 consists of the following: TV, Sattellite Tuner, DVD/CD, AV Reciever and Xbox 360.

I previously tried the Radio Shack Kameleon universal remote. Let me say their is NO comparison. The Logitech Harmony 360 remote took the Kameleon behind the 'wood shed' and kicked it's proverbial butt!!!

The Harmony was very easy to program. Just have a list of the components you plan on controling with the remote along with their Manufacturer and Model information. The setup software easily walks you through the process.

The 'Activities' is the best part about this remote. Via the setup software you can define activities such as, 'Watch TV' or 'Watch DVD' and you answer a series of questions about which equipment is needed for the activity and what the settings on the equipment must be at for the activity.

Once you've completed entering the component information and defining your activities the end configuration is downloaded to your remote via a USB cable. Slick.

The Harmony maybe took 30 minutes to an hour max to gather the information I needed and program the remote and test it. I literally probably spent a minimum of 4 hours programming that Kameleon and it still was very cumbersome to use. My wife couldn't use it and most of the time it was just simpler to return to using the 4 original manufacturer remotes! Since getting the Harmony I have not touched those manufacture remotes, not even once and my wife can use the system without help.

The bottom line is, this remote is a great purchase if you have a typical AV system in today's homes (tv, dvd, stereo). Even with a near $100 price tag you won't be disappointed.

Enjoy! I know you will.

Customer Review: Finally - A Universal Remote that is Universal

This thing rocks!

I do not have a X-Box 360 yet, but I bought this in anticipation of getting the new X-Box. Really what makes this an X-Box remote is a pre-configured profile for X-Box and the Y X A B buttons (like on the controller).

What you get with this is an impossible to open (like all things in plastic these days) package - but in that package is a software CD, a set of 4 AAA batteries, a USB cable, and the remote. The remote has 4 AAA batteries installed, but these MUST be replaced by the inlcuded extra batteries. It won't work otherwise.

The remote is configured online using a very extensive database. The remote works by creating "profiles." For example, when setting up the remote, there are already templates ready to go: Watch TV, Watch DVD, Listen to Radio, Play X-Box, Play CD's, and Watch VCR. You tell the software what you have (you will need your model numbers) and asks how your setup works. When all is ready, the Watch TV action does the following (for me anyway): Turns on the TV, turns on cable box, sets the TV inputs and I am ready to go. For DVD: Turns on TV, turns on receiver, turns on DVD, sets TV inputs, sets receiver to DVD.

How cool is that.

The difficulty was my TV. I had to do some tweaking in the setup - learing new commands and re-assigning keys - mostly because their database did not have the correct commands for my remote.

What remotes are not in the database can be easily learned, and you can completely re-configure the "profiles" as you wish.

It takes some time to set up but it is well worth it. I have no need for any of my other remotes: TV, Cable, VCR, Receiver, DVD, Media Center, and CD.

This is truly a Universal remote!

Customer Review: Get used to it! You'll like it.

Harmony Remotes are a complete 180 from traditional universal remotes.

Let me start with the biggest difference. ACTIVITIES. You set this remote to perform a specific activity. It will then perform the necessary button pushed to get you there.

Say I want to watch my Tivo. I press the "Watch Tivo" activity.

It will then
1) Turn on my TV
2) Set the input to my HDMI input (which I have my Tivo hooked up to)
3) Turn on the Tivo
4) Have my buttons set to control the volume of the tv and the rest of the buttons control the Tivo.

I was totally used to the traditional, Press TV mode on my remote, hit power, hit input 4 times to get to HDMI, then press the VCR2 button where my Tivo buttons are programmed.

Once you get over the tweaking period (which for me took about 2 hours), you can set EVERY button to do anything you want on any device.

The biggest thing about this remote is that it won't become obsolete. You hook the remote up to your PC through USB and answer a series of questions to setup your devices. You then tweak the buttons afterward to your tastes.

I honestly don't have an Xbox 360 yet, but bought this with getting one in mind. You do NOT need to have a 360 to use this remote.. but the XYAB buttons will be handy if you have one.

The range of the remote is good as I can point it in ANY direction and my usuall finiky devices still respond to it.

It even has an undocumented feature: If you havent been using the remote, for 2 or more hours and go to pick it up, it has a motion sensor that will make it start to glow for you so you can see everything nice and easy.

Customer Review: Perfect.

If you need a universal remote and you want one to also control your XBOX 360, do not hesitate, this is the one.

I had searched for a while for the perfect universal remote and finally decided on this one and I truly reccomend it.

The user manual, which is basically non existent is not that great, but once you set it up and spend some time with it, it's great.

Give yourself an hour or two to fine tune the remote, and you'll ask how you have gone so long without it.

I have a Comcast DVR, RCA Audio Reciever, Samsung HDTV, a Pelican AV Selector, and the XBOX 360 and this remote controls all of them.

You also create a "profile" for each activity using the different sources. If I watch TV, I'm using the TV, the Reciever and the DVR and the profile I create controls all three, plus I can make any buttons do whatever I want. Because the default choice for OnDemand was far up on the remote I made one of the unused XBOX buttons (yellow) my OnDemand button.

The remote is actually better than I thought it was going to be, serioulsy. I searched for ages and I'm glad I made this choice. The only reason I'm writing this review is because the remote worked beyond what I thought it would do and I figure there has to be more people like me trying to figure out which one is best.

One hint I'll share is that if you click on "devices" it will cycle through your sources and profiles, something I found by accident that made the remote even easier to use. I thought I had to use the LCD select areas to get back to my "watch tv" setting, but by hitting "devices" it will cycle back to you profile.

Anyways, easily 5 stars!
