Customer Review: Your PS3 will work better than any blu-ray player

If you like Harmony remotes and use your Playstation 3 as a Blu-ray player, this Harmony adapter will make your PS3 work like the best Blu-ray player in the market.
PS3 is faster than any other Blu-ray player, but it's a nuisance to use the PS3 game controller as a remote. You may buy the bluetooth remote, but it cannot be programmed to be used with an universal remote, like the Harmony.
There are also infrared cheaper adapters for PS3, I tried them, but they cannot turn-on and turn-off the PS3. So your only solution for a true universal, complete with turn-on/turn-off, remote for PS3 is using this adapter. It fails sometimes to turn-off the PS3 (I'd say about 10% of the times), but still it works well enough, so I recommend it.
I use it with the Harmony 890 and the RF Wireless Extender (which is included with the Harmony 890), and I've connected physically the RF Wireless Extender to this PS3 adapter using a mono 2.5mm to 3.5mm male/male cable - it's not necessary, but I believe it improved a little bit the reliability.

If you own the PS3 and a Logitech harmony remote, this is a must have adapter. From the day I purchased the Harmony One remote I always wished that it could control my PS3. Since the PS3 operation is controlled with bluetooth versus an infrared signal it couldn't be done - until now. The adapter communicates to your PS3 through a bluetooth signal and your remote communicates with the adapter via an infrared signal.
Set up was very quick. I plugged it in the wall and went in my PS3 accessory settings to pair the adapter. I then opened the Harmony remote wizard on my computer and added the PS3 as a device. After setting up a few activities I was ready to go.
When I used the activity "Play a BluRay" it powered on my receiver, PS3, and TV while setting everything to the correct input. When I used the "Power All Off" feature it never turned off my PS3. No worries, I plugged my remote back into my computer and updated the firmware on my remote. The latest remote firmware update added a "Power Off" function on the remote which solved the issue. I could not be more happy with this PS3 remote adapter.

Well this device is mandatory to use the Harmony remotes from Logitech with the PS3, its perfect for using it with the Harmony one remote. The device is easy to connect to PS3, as its bluetooth, plus it plugs in and is always ready for your commands.
The only downside, is the fact it has a green light that is always on. I knew this before buying it, so its not that major of a con. as a piece of tape helps it blend into the background with the rest of my devices.
If not for this device, I would have actually had to find a more expensive remote, that more then likely would not have controlled everything else besides the PS3/TV - like the Home theater or Xbox 360.
Oh and since its blue tooth, it does not need line of site to operate the PS3. PS3 can be anywhere in the room and still work with the remote adapter. one trick I can think of is to stick it to the wall, or TV if you have flat screen mounted on wall. since its natural location to point the remote at a TV anyway. either double sided tape, or those command adhesive strips from 3M to stick it up.

Since adding a Playstation 3 to my entertainment center, I've had to use 2 remotes to do things like watch Netflix movies. I say "I", because my wife refuses to touch the Playstation controller to navigate the menus. Adding this component has made my harmony One a dream to use. It was very easy to set up, not quite plug and play, but a simple change to a system menu, and selecting Playstation 3 as a new component in harmony's setup up software had me up and running under 10 minutes. Once setup, you do not need to do anything else.
Only con I have is the price. Adding $50 to an already expensive remote control system is a little tough to swallow. It makes the total cost of the remote system almost the same as a PS3, and more expensive than some of the components you are trying to control.
I'd say this controller is nearly a "must" by for anyone using a PS3 as a central component in your entertainment system...that is if you have a harmony remote too. Easy to use, easy to set up accessory. 4.5 stars, if I could rate that way.

I got a PS3 slim for Christmas (2009). I already had my Harmony 550 remote setup with my Sony HD LCD, Onkyo Receiver, Cablebox DVR, & Xbox 360. Then I added the activity "watch PS3" on my Harmony remote. It turned my tv on to the right input, same for the Onkyo as well-but the Harmony could not control the PS3 slim like the PS3 controller did.
So I looked up this adapter and read the reviews. I was worried there would be conflicts with the controllers or hard setups as some of the reviews said. But when I got the adapter it was very simple setup. I just pulled it out of the box, connected the power, went to the PS3 menu per the simple setup guide under BD settings and "added BD remote" and hit the adapter connect button. Then I aimed my harmony at the PS3 and it controlled everything instantly.
I did not have to delete and re-add activities like other people said. Works a lot easier than I thought. Highly satisfied with everything except the priciness and the fact I paid shipping since it did not come direct from Amazon.
