Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3

Customer Review: Finally able to control PS3 with my 360 Harmony Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many I have a 360 and a PS3. Both are great. Well when I got the 360 we had 4 remotes. 1 to turn on the tv...1 for the Direc tv, 1 for the dvd player and 1 for the receiver. After many times of asking "do you know where the remote is" we got the Logitech Harmony remote for the 360. This controls everything and we were happy. Then we got a ps3. Well like many others, you have to control watching blu rays with the controller.

I don't know how many times I would hit a button on the controller or what not and the movie either fast forward or went back to the main menu of the ps3...plus if you use the controller, you are wasting the battery from the controller cause it stays on...yes you can turn off just the controller, but that is a hassle. You could buy a blu ray remote for the ps3, but again, the point of a remote like the harmony is to have 1 remote.

This adapter makes controlling the ps3 with ANY harmony remote. That is the beauty of it. So simple to connect...

Just plug it in with the ac adapter (does not take up a usb port on the ps3) and go to settings on ps3, register blu ray adapter...hit the button on the bottom of the adapter...that's it.....

Now you just have to goto your logitech software on your computer, add the ps3, set it up like you have done with the other devices and update remote and enjoy.

Customer Review: An overpriced solution for another stupid decision by Sony.
Summary: 5 Stars

I've never been a fan of Sony products. They way they work with each other is commendable but they way they ignore any though of common sense drives me crazy. So the Harmony PS3 adapter. It's a great product. It does exactly what it says it does. But it's a product that shouldn't need to exist. Damn near every home entertainment product made in the last 30 years has featured an infrared remote, meaning everything except the damn PS3. But Sony in their infinite wisdom chose to use Bluetooth for its remote control. That's fine for anyone who likes having a separate remote for everything they own. But they left off infrared completely so those of us with our expensive universal remotes can't control it. I spent $100 for my Harmony 620 a few years ago. It's a fantastic remote that works perfectly for my needs. I just spent more than half of what I paid for my remote for and adapter to control 1 device! Thank you Sony for creating a problem that could have been solved by a $0.02 part being slapped in while the PS3 is manufactured. And thank you Logitech for gouging your loyal Harmony customers by charging them $60 for components that a free piece of crap cell phone has. Thank you so much for making me waste my money just so I can watch my Blu-rays without using the massively unintuitive controller. Thank you so much.

Customer Review: Finally get rid of the PS3 controller as a remote
Summary: 5 Stars

For a while I was using my Logitech Harmony One remote to control everything in my home theater set up, everything except my PS3 which I use as my Blu-Ray player. Anyone that uses a PS3 to play DVDs or Blu-Rays should know that using the PS3 controller is anything but easy. Enter the Logitech Harmony adapter. The adapter is a no frills device that does exactly what it's suppose to do. All you have to do is take it out of the box and plug in the power. No plugging into the PS3 required! Once it's plugged in you just need to set up the remote and then you can ditch the controller and use your Harmony remote to control everything once and for all.

PRO:
* Small and stylish - matches the PS3
* Does not use a USB slot
* Does exactly what it's suppose to do with no extra frills
* Uses all the same inputs as the controller
* You can finally ditch the PS3 controller

CONS:
* A little on the expensive side

My Take: I was so happy to pick this up and get rid of the PS3 controller. It makes watching movies on the PS3 so easy and simple. If you want to just have one remote to control every device in your set up and have a PS3 this is the key, I only wish the Harmony remote lineup included blue tooth so something like this wouldn't be necessary.

Customer Review: Logitech fixes Sony's error.
Summary: 5 Stars

My Harmony 720 had, strangely enough, been one of the stumbling blocks keeping me from getting a PS3. Once I had gotten used to having a remote that controls my various electronics better than the ones they came with I became spoiled. The more clunky IR to BT adapters on the market were far from ideal.

This, however, hit the spot. I purchased it the day I bought my PS3, and it arrived a short shipping time later. It transformed the Blu-Ray and general PS3 navigation experience. The Dualshock 3 is an excellent controller, second only to the Xbox 360 in comfort and ease of use. However, like the 360 controller it is not ideal for controlling DVDs or video playback. The Sony Bluetooth-based Blu-ray remote for the PS3 is workable, but clunky in comparison to a Harmony. Once I added this device (I actually didn't have to program my Harmony interface, as since I bought the PS3 after the adapter was released I just had to sync the adapter and the PS3.) everything ran and controlled smoothly. The PS3 went from being a substandard DVD player to being the best one I own. I am still displeased that Sony's failure to include a $.25 IR receiver forced me to get a $60 piece of Hardware, but that isn't Logitech's fault. This is an excellent item, I can't recommend it enough.

Customer Review: Slightly overpriced, but a must for PS3 and Harmony remote owners
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Harmony PlayStation Adapter with a Harmony 900 remote and am very pleased with the result. I am able to control all of my devices, including my PS3 with the Harmony 900.

Overall I would rate the Harmony Adapter at 5/5 simply due to the fact that it works as advertised. At $60.00 I would consider it slightly overpriced, but not unreasonably priced. I found the setup to not be very difficult at all. The quick setup guide that came with the Adapter was easy to follow and I paired the Adapter to my PS3 on the first attempt. Setting up the remote to control the PS3 is not terribly difficult, but I would count it against the remote and not the Adapter, if at all. In the end, I used the remote's RF capabilities to control my entire home theater system and the Harmony remote can control the PS3 anywhere in my house.

A slight hit on its appearance is that the green LED light does not turn off even with the PS3 off. However, since the Adapter uses Bluetooth to communicate with the PS3, you can hide the adapter fairly easily and I do not find the green light to be an issue.

In conclusion, if you are trying to get down to one remote for your home theater system and you own a PlayStation 3, you can't go wrong with this Adapter.
