Customer Review: Very good programmable remote
Summary: 4 Stars

Right off this remote makes having guests or babysitters over a breeze. I do not have too complicated of a setup. A tivo, tv ps3 and an HDMI switch. Through the setup I found all but one of my products and it was super simple to set up. My biggest complaint is actually a small one. When the remote sits for a long time it goes into sleep mode. If I pick it up sometimes its on the "Choose Activity" screen which means for me to turn the television down I need to go through the whole TV turn on mode. It only takes about 20 seconds but when I need to turn the TV down for a phone call or whatever it makes for a real pain.

The battery life is decent, because its a Lithium Ion battery the recharge time is pretty short so its a good trade off. The charging base is odd because it has a shortish cord and I could not find a good place to put it. You cannot mount it on a wall it must be flat on a surface, which means I have to move my old mail and smurf collectibles off the table.

Pros:
>> Easy to set up all of your products
>> Works with Apple TV, PS3 and other non standard remote electronics
>> Can control lighting systems and other things in your house like your remote controlled coffee maker

Cons:

<< 2-3 menu changes to turn the TV down when it has been asleep for a while
<< Cost is high for non-refurb model
<< Charging station takes up valuable land.

Overall this is a very capable remote for complicated systems and even basic systems where you may have lost your remote.

Thank you for reading my review.

Customer Review: Great value in an RF remote
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this Harmony remote on the recommendation of a friend at work. My next best option at the time looked like a much higher priced but similar remote.
My system consisted of a stereo receiver, satellite cable receiver, Blue-Ray disc player and TV. All 4 are in a closet near the TV. My wife loves having them out of sight. But only the cable receiver and TV would recognize RF signal, the others only IR. This remote bridged the gaps.
What I liked the best - the ability to program it through my PC. It turned out to be relatively simple to navigate the software on my PC and select the appropriate components in my system. The technical support team at Logitech were excellent. I called them 3 different times troubleshooting minor issues which were huge when I could not figure out how to make it work. But the tech support team quickly worked through my issues and it works great now.
What I did not like - the written materials with the set were not complete enough for me. But the tech support and online help made up the difference. And the remote is 'slippery', as in it wants to slip out of my hand. But the controls are well thought out, easy to use, and mimic my other remotes nicely.
Biggest surprise - the remote comes with a rechareable cradle. My wife loves it but is not good at replacing it on the cradle. So we have to work at that but we will save on AAA batteries in the long run.
Overall - well pleased and trust it will be around a long time.

Customer Review: Best Remote I've Ever Owned
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: Well I've had the Logitech 890 for about a month and I've set it up to control 3 tv's, a blu ray player, dvd player and 2 satellite receivers. So far everything works great. It does take a bit to set it up online but once you figure out how to do it the first time, it's pretty darn easy. I think most people find the convenience of only having to push one button to watch a dvd, tv, music etc etc to be the best feature. I haven't had a chance to use the RF feature as all of my stuff is in line of sight but if it does what it's supposed to, than I'll be very happy.

Cons: The set up online takes a little getting used to. The remote can't tell when the particular machine is on. For example if I want to watch a blu ray, it may turn on the tv but not the blu ray so if you push it again, than it may turn off the tv and turn on the blu ray. So you can see where this goes, so then you have to control the tv or blu ray on the remote and turn it on that way. A small minor inconvenience but that's my con. Also there is a bit of a lag for the components to respond to the remote. I've adjusted the lag to respond the quickest but it didn't help.

Overall, I'd highly recommend this remote. It's very convenient to have just one remote for every single component in the house. I'm excited to hook up my lights and fans through my remote when I get the time.

Customer Review: Good remote for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

This remote is pretty good for the price. I have so far not had any problem with it especially for the fact that it's refurbished. It has performed well so far.

A couple of complaints about the design of the remote in general:

1. The number buttons could be more pronounced to make changing the channel easier. The location of the buttons could be further up on the remote. I usually change channels using my thumb and you really have to crank your thumb down to reach all the numbered buttons. It's not that big of a deal though.

2. The channel up/down and volume up/down buttons on either side of the remote are small and narrow. I reprogrammed my channel up/down buttons to be the large arrow up and down so that I could surf faster.

3. There is a bit of lag when pressing buttons. While watching my cable box it's mostly caused by the cable box rather than the remote. I use the remote with my xbox 360 as well. I notice a lot of lag on this. For example, if you quickly press the up/down buttons a few times to navigate on Live, after you stop it will still scroll until all commands have been sent. You can tweak this to a certain extent using their software though I have never gotten to work as fast as the 360 controller.

I have not tried the RF functionality yet

Customer Review: Great Remote! Stress Reliever....
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased one of the refurbished 890s and fortunately they got this one right. It looked brand new and there was no evidence whatsoever that it had been previously used. The heart of my system is a Onkyo TX-607 AV receiver which is a great unit but lacking in the remote control area. So I decided to try the Logitech 890 and it controls everything I need it to control; 2 DVD players, one DVD recorder, one VCR, one TiVo DVR, Dish Network VIP-722 and a Samsung 46" LCD TV. Now, one touch of a button powers everything down where it used to take a scurrying of several remotes. Likewise, one touch turns everything on that needs to be on to perform the requested activity. It really does put the icing on the cake with my system. The software is very easy to use in setting up the remote and very well done; the only thing I worry about is since the software is website based (you must have an Internet connection to use it), will Logitech continue to support it in the coming years and what happens if they decide to get out of the remote business? The only other complaint I have is the buttons on the 890 are a little hard to see in daylight because the contrast between the letters and buttons (light blue on silver) are similar making it hard to distinguish what's what. Overall I think it is great and well worth the money.
