Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal RemoteCustomer Review: Perfect for those who don't want a bunch of remotes Summary: 5 Stars
If you are just a little technically inclined and like to tinker, you will have no problems with this remote. I wouldn't ask my parents to set one up, but the software is easy enough that they probably could anyway.
The harmony allows me to go from 4 remotes to 1, and I love being able to press one button to fire up everything and set my favorite channel, or another button to shut everything down. There is so much flexibility that you can set whatever sequences and delays you need to have it work with your equipment.
My only complaint (and it is minor, not enough to take away a star in my rating) is that for the "other activities" they only display 2 at a time on the LCD screen and I can't change what order they come up in. So I have to press NEXT to get to one of my most common "other activities" instead of it being on the first page of choices. Logitech seems pretty responsive to customers so it won't surprise me if they add this capability soon.
I've had this remote for just over a year, and if I lost it today I'd go get a replacement immediately.
Customer Review: Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote Summary: 5 Stars
This is the second one purchased. The first one was part of a sound system package. It worked great even after being dropped after about the tenth time, but the display no longer displayed anything and since no one else memorized the options to reset the various equipment after power interruptions without using the display, it was time to replace it.
Very easy to set up for use with the myriad of video and sound devices because it comes with a pictured, numbered installation guide that explains what information you'll need to gather BEFORE starting to program the remote. Hook it up to your computer with a USB cable and insert the CD software which completes the programming based on the information you provide, and then tells you to go see if everything works and report back before you finish up. Comes with 90 day support, takes four AAA batteries.
Nice size, easy and comfortable to hold if you can get it out of the grip of the "Remote King" which is a usless exercise if 'COPS' is on, and has a glow button which lights up in cool blue.
Customer Review: great after you figure it out Summary: 5 Stars
i read all the reviews about this one and was prepared for a tough software install. It isn't tough so much as a bit of a drudgery until you get everything JUST EXACTLY RIGHT. I have a Samsung 40" lcd, older AV system (stereo only not surround), DVD recorder that I also use as a 2nd channel for PIP and to play movies of course, Motorola STB, 50 disc Sony CD changer, and a optoma projector i use maybe twice a month for movies or something on the 8 ft. screen.
Anyway, in 20 minutes I had it all working, OK, but just OK. The software allows you to do things like turn volumes up and down on devices, decide on the starting channel, pick your own shortcuts for the LCD screen and much much more. After about two hours I had it about perfect. The next day i tweaked some of my shortcuts based on my experience. So the ease of installation was only about a 4 (and I'm a technical gadget guy). But the performance is astounding. I put 5 old remotes in a drawer and it's just as advertised. A fanastic purchase at $104 and worth the steep, one time only, learning curve.
Customer Review: 4 remotes into 1 Summary: 5 Stars
I'd looked into universal remotes a few years ago but reviews weren't good. This time when I looked the top rated ones were these Logitech's with good reviews so I bought an 880 at Circuit City for $250 less 50 rebate. I entered my equipment and tested but it didn't work right. So I returned it, researched some more and found the 670 was said to be best for DVR's so I bought it for a great price on Amazon and was ready for another go. I hooked it up, the software recognized it was a different model. I left the equipment selections as is from the 880 setup and loaded the settings onto the remote. Everything worked. I had to dig a little to find how to switch my Denon receiver input from the DVD player from DVD to DVD-Audio and SACD, and I also had to switch from the default of a title and 4 selections on the LCD to 6 selections before the SA Explorer 8300HD DVR cable box selection to list the available recordings was displayed but that's it. I LOVE IT!!! I've bought many things from Amazon but this is the first one that I wanted to leave a review for. It's that good.

I think the harmony remote line is an excellent product that is very much worth considering! Unfortunately I was on the phone to their tech support for hours on a Friday and back again as soon as they opened Saturday. Their first line support is very hit and mostly miss, miss, miss, I finally asked to be moved up to their next level of support and once I got through to them the guy was great and got me up and running with little problem at all. The many options that are available from their web site to set up various functions on the remote are still somewhat confusing to me, but so far after understanding their terminology I have got it doing all kinds of things like it should. "Help" search is lacking on some common tasks? I have finally trained it from our cable remote to turn on the pip, pip ch. up, dwn & swap which our HD tv isn't supposed to be able to do on a digital box but our box thank God does it!! After the initial learning curve this is a great product. Again, first line of support didn't know much at all, but go for it, I think you will love it.
