Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote

Customer Review: Perfect for my needs
Summary: 5 Stars

I used this for a setup with:

Devices:
47" Toshiba LCD 1080p
Toshiba HD-A30 HDDVD Player
Yamaha HTR-6030 AV Receiver
Comcast Cable Modem

Functions I setup:
1) Watch a movie
2) Watch TV
3) Listen to a CD

The software and setup were very easy, I loved that it downloaded all the updates for the remote, so new devices are added to the list while the remote was waiting for me to order it. The software saves a copy of my settings, so if the remote needs to be replaced I can load the settings onto the replacement without having to re-enter everything.

I had the wrong input selected on the tv once after choosing "Watch TV", I hit "Help" and the remote auto-corrected the input and asked me if that helped, perfect!

My family loves it, and I too am now spoiled with the fact that we use one single remote.

The price for this model was also perfect too.

The only -ve is actually for Sony for not including an IR receiver for their PS3, it's not Logitech's fault so I'm not taking any points away on the review.

My advice? Get it from Fry's try it then buy it on Amazon for far less, and don't feel bad about this either, how many times have they drawn you in with false ads?

Customer Review: Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought one for a relative last Christmas. Saw how convenient and easy it was to program. So I bought one for myself this March. It works just great.

The setup software programs the 670 easily and the Logitech remote replaces the remotes for a HDTV, a DVD Home Theater A/V Receiver, a DishHD DVR Receiver, and a Psyclone PSC01 Source Selector. One button click now setups all those devices to the right status for a particular entertainment activity.

I like the color screens and icons on the higher end Logitech remotes .. but the discrete placement of buttons on the 670 is much more practical for me to use. Function wins forms this time round.

All is not rosy though. Added the Sony PS3 to the entertainment arena. The Bluetooth requirements of the PS3 leaves it out of the IR RF remotes inner circle. Consider this if you need a combined solution for Infra Red RF as well as Bluetooth devices. ( The Sony PS3 is deliberately left powered on so it is not an issue in this case). Fully backlit is a signifcant bonus..none of the replaced remotes had adequate backlit features.

Short version: This cool tool really works and should satisfy most. Think "out of the box" though if you have a Sony PS3 tied into your entertainment network.

Customer Review: Does Everything! Just need to take time to set it up exactly right.

This remote is fabulous. It works perfectly. The trick is that you will probably need to customize the settings online yourself (their defaults are a little too simplistic - for example, the remote assumed that I had hooked up several components directly to my TV rather than through the receiver, but once I programmed it to adjust the receiver appropriately for each component it worked perfectly). I don't think I will ever need to use the pile of component remotes ever again. Even the custom settings for the remote are very easy to set-up (and I am a relatively technologically inept woman). Previous reviewers have complained about three major flaws in the device: 1. didn't work properly; 2. quickly sucks the life out of batteries; and 3. completely dies after a short period of time. Well, so far so good. My Harmony passed the first test with flying colors. Time will tell for numbers 2 and 3. I will update my review as time passes, but for now I HIGHLY recommend this product.

UPDATE: As promised, I am updating my review. I have had the remote for almost 6 months and it still works perfectly and I have never even had to change the batteries (as a comp, I have changed the batteries in my wireless mouse several times in the same time frame). As I said before, I HIGHLY recommend this remote.

Customer Review: Best Remote Ever
Summary: 5 Stars

If you can use a computer without having to watch Video Professor CDs, then this will be the greatest remote you will ever own.

It is infinitely programmable. I currently have the following components that it controls:
1. HDTV
2. A/V Receiver
3. Tivo
4. Digital Cable / DVR
5. VCR
6. Apple Airtunes

Plus, I have two game systems (playstation 2 and gamecube) that it does not control, but that it can set up the other components so that all I need to do is press the power button on the game system.

The software is great and allows you to mix and match components for any given activity (watch Tivo, watch DVR, Watch VCR, Listen to MP3's streamed via Airtunes, Play Gamecube, Play Playstation, etc). For each activity you get to choose what component is used, what gets turned off or stays on, how the volume is controlled, what inputs need to be set, and so on. For functions that do not correspond to the buttons on the remote, you can program them in so that they appear on the LCD screen.

Seriously, this is the greatest remote I have ever owned, and I see no reason why anyone would need to spend any more than this. I think it will even control lights and other home automation functions, if you have them.

Customer Review: Works like a charm! Highly recommended

I'd never had a Harmony before and bought it for myself because a friend of mine has one. I'm a woman, in my mid 60's although I am fairly savvy about computers, etc. I love the thing. Having read reviews of all the other models, I chose the 670 because it sounded like it was the most reliable. I may be a bit more technically inclined than some other reviewers here, but certainly less than some who are fascinated with any kind of new techie toy out there. I found it very easy to program. If you read the instructions. It takes just a bit of repetition to remember where the appropriate buttons are. I have a Tivo, and those buttons are the ones I access more than any others. When we had a power outage recently the 670 lost the TV on/off command, but I turned on the TV once by hand and we were back in business again. I also find that the 670 buttons are very sensitive - a good thing. A light touch is all that's needed to send the command. And I LOVE the fact that I press the TV button and everything comes on - the TV, my speakers - and the Tivo I programmed to be always on. Initially it turned it off when I turned off the TV, but as Tivo users know, you need it on all the time to receive and send information. I did have to go to the Harmony website to fig
