Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal Remote

Customer Review: I am impressed!
Summary: 5 Stars

After trying several other universal remotes, with limited success, I think I finally found the solution to my multi-remote quandry. I have a Comcast (Motorola) HiDef DVR, a Sony HDTV, Pioneer DVD player and a Sony A/V Receiver, and the remote has worked flawlessly with all of them with all the buttons behaving exactly as expected. The software installed and ran on my computer (PIII 850) without issue, recognized the remote immediately, and within 30 minutes of opening the box I was up and running. After trying the remote for a few minutes, I realized that I needed to make an adjustment to the power setting of the DVR so it would stay on all the time. It took only a few minutes to adjust the power configuration for the DVR re-sync the instructions to the remote.

While the remote doesn't have all the proprietary buttons that the DVR remote has (e.g. "My DVR", "Live TV"), no remote would or can, it covers the functionality of the devices more than any other universal/all-in-one remote I have tried, plus the buttons next to the LCD screen can be custom programmed, which I haven't tried yet.

I really like the software approach to programming the remote. If the Harmony is lost, broken, or eaten by the dog, all I have to do is replace it with a new one and re-sync the instructions stored in my account (online) with the new remote. I never have to worry about losing the programming set.

Customer Review: Pretty Awesome
Summary: 5 Stars

My intent here is to give a glowing review of this Harmony 670 remote; although, there are a couple of negatives as well. I am using this Logitech remote as my principal device controller for my 32" LCD HDTV, my Comcast HD DVR cable box, and my DVD player. This is not a 'Home Theater' set-up, but for routine TV-watching in the living room. This 670 is a well-constructed remote, and it feels substantial in my hand (with batteries for ballast). The remote immediately worked everything after I programmed it online, which was impressive to me. I like the fact that the remote requires online programming, because that means its software is upgradable indefinitely. And for over $100, I want this thing to operate my future gadgets, too. It is my understanding that this can operate other IR devices as well, such as lights. The little toggle controller (cursor joystick) is small for my thumb... I prefer the size of the TiVo cursor buttons. Since I have a DVR that runs all my TV viewing, it took additional reprogramming to customize a few buttons. Also, there is a small glitch I still need to resolve (two screens activate on the same button). All in all, this is a fine choice for the 'techie' user who enjoys having a PC link-up for fine-tuning. I've tried countless so-called 'Universal' remotes over the years and I've been bitterly disappointed. This is the first remote that lives up to the hype!

Customer Review: Fantastic Product
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this for an 16 year old surround sound amplifier, a new 46" lcd (Samsung), a new HD dvd player(Toshiba), and a Comcast DVR. Logitech had all components in the advertised database and was easy to setup.
I am an advanced user of electronics and found the following pros and cons.

Pros:
1) It had an extensive database as advertised.
2) Lots of choices for configurations.
3) You will not need to get out any of your original remotes again!!
4) A great alternative to multiple remotes.
One button to watch a DVD and one button to watch TV, etc. does it get any better than this?
5) Easy to use - My wife and Parents could use it without my help...Priceless

Cons:
1) No way to check the database for your components prior to purchase.
2) Advanced functions confusing as to how to program.
3) My wife and parents could not setup/program (nothing new here).
4) Buttons have a "lower" quality feel, not bad, just lower...
5) Light-on "glow" button should have been placed in a better location.

I give this product a "buy" rating. Mostly because of the method Logitech choose to solve the multiple remote problem is very clever. For the money, there is no better solution. Most solutions to any problem have good and bad factors; this is a solution you will be satisfied with.

Customer Review: Solution to the remote control forest!
Summary: 5 Stars

This Logitech product is the one best solutions I have found for a forest of remote controls. The beauty of it is that you can control multiple devices by what entertainment you want to have - such as watch TV, listen to CDs, watch a video tape or watch a DVD. It is programmed by an easy to use PC based program that queries you on what equipment you have and then automatically comes up with sequences to switch the correct units on or off and and make settings on each for that activity. It then also provides the most important set of individual component buttons programmed to all operate together as a single unit. You may control the audio volume with an amplifier the channels with a cable tuner and the picture aspect ratio on the TV monitor, all in one setup. The settings created by the software are loaded into the remote with a USB cable. The library of devices that the software contains is impressive and covered everything I own. The PC software is flexible enough to customize the command sequences if what it came up with needs tweaking. The keypad also lights up for easy use in the dark. All in all this is a great technical solution to a problem created by technology. I recommend this particular model with the monochrome display as the right price point for the greatest feature set. Don't hesitate to try this remote, you will love it.

Customer Review: How do people not like this?
Summary: 5 Stars

After reading countless reviews on the Harmony 670 and other Harmony models, I was a little apprehensive about buying one. Many people say the setup is difficult and the Logitech software is very buggy. I've had my Harmony 670 for a couple of weeks now and I just don't agree. Both the online setup and the physical software from Logitech have worked flawlessly for me and I use a 5 year-old laptop to accomplish it. Yes, it does take some time to make the remote absolutely perfect for your situation, especially if you have alot of component but you will have a functional remote controlling everything within an hour or so and it's easy to do. The key thing is that the Harmony remote CAN control every single function of every single remote that you own. I have 7 components (and 7 remotes) and the Harmony controls each one completely and perfectly, even older components. The activity-based tasks are a godsend to your family members that don't quite understand the finer points of universal remotes and the necessary steps that need to be taken to get a DVD movie to play with the home theater on. My wife loves this thing, no intimidation factor whatsoever! Also, no pulling out the old remotes for a single function that can't be programmed onto the Harmony. Again, I'm baffled why many people don't love these things, I will always own one now.
