Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Harmony 670 Universal RemoteCustomer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
Pros: easy set up, lightweight, not too big, backlit, good help menu on the LCD screen on the remote, very smart remote!
Cons: button layout is not the best, burns through batteries
Love this remote! This is my first 'real' Universal Remote so I do not have much to compare to.
Set up was easy for me through the USB cable and online set up. just make sure you follow the large format, 1 sheet, fold out 'quick install guide' manual the comes with. Write down all your components/devices Model numbers first, then install software, plug in the USB cable to the remote, register an account, and start the set up. pretty easy. NOT SURE WHY SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE WITH THE SET UP!!! IT'S EASY!
Love using just one remote to control all my 5 devices! This thing is smart and you tweak any of the buttons to do just about whatever you want them to do.
I have only had it for two weeks when I wrote this, so I cant speak of how long it takes to eat the batteries, but I imagine with the LCD screen the batteries wont last long. but that is to be expected with any remote like this. just get good quality rechargeable AAA's. Buttons could be laid out better. would like the "prev", "exit", and "guide" buttons to be larger and located better.
I picked this up new, from Amazon for $65, so I got a great deal. I wouldnt pay more than $100 for this remote, but is a steal at $65.
all in all I luv it! serves the purpose it was made for.
Customer Review: Almost the best investment I made into my home theater Summary: 5 Stars
This little remote is one of the best things I bought for my home entertainment center. It has software that runs on the computer and downloads all the different manufactures equipment so you can just pull off of lists and then plugs into your computer via a USB plug and downloads all the configuration.
It took me about a hour total to get this thing up and running. I entered all my components, it prompted me through little wizards, I connected the remote, it downloaded stuff, and I tested it. One thing didn't work as expected so I plugged it back in and changed it. Having a "Watch TV" button that turns on my receiver, cable box, and TV then sets the TV and receiver to the correct inputs is great. No more fussing with multiple remotes or having to remember what input goes to what. Another nice feature is you can click like "Watch Movie" or another command and it switches stuff around. When your done you hit "Off" and it turns off everything that it had turned on. The other nice thing is it added in the "special" buttons on my different remotes to its little interface so I still have access to them like the A, B, & C buttons on my cable box and the Aspect/Picture Size button from my TV. And best of all I don't have to teach people how to use my TV when they want to do something....just tell them to hit the button they want while pointing it to the TV and wait for the green light to turn off. I haven't had to use any of the other remotes since I got this and thats a very good thing.
Customer Review: Perfect all in one remote Summary: 5 Stars
I research the living heck out of everything before buying something and I read several good reviews about this before making my purchase.
That said, here's my thoughts on the Harmony 670:
My setup consists of an old Sony tube (soon to be replaced), a Yamaha 2090 receiver, Dish Network, Xbox 360 and a Philips DVD player (soon to be replaced for a Blue Ray).
The remote works flawlessly. The software for your PC is easy to use. The "Help" feature on the remote itself is fantastic. It took me a little while to setup everything (hour) but no biggy.
Switching from watching TV to playing 360 to watching movies is only 1 click away.
It is not the best Harmony out perhaps...but I did not want to deal with the remote not charging because the brass/gold contacts in the cradle of the other chargers crap the bed within a year.
My only complaint, and it's not a big deal for me, is the remote does not have a seperate "DVR" button. So I delegated the "E" for enter on the remote to perform the same thing my Dish Network remote has, to jump to my recording list. I could care less because I usually use the guide to look at channels and hit the select button. If I ever enter a channel # manually it will jump to that channel regardless even without hitting "E" for enter. So who cares...well at least I don't.
Buy the remote...it'll make your life easier. Excellent pricing on Amazon as well.
Customer Review: Best remote I've used Summary: 5 Stars
I have previously owned the original Philips Pronto and Harmony 880 universal remotes. The Pronto was nice, but it took a lot of time and effort to program, and it didn't have "events" like the Harmony models. Ultimately, the touchscreen died and we junked it.
The Harmony 880 was okay, but it has several flaws, too. The volume and channel buttons are small and located in a weird place. The rocker-type volume control often couldn't decide if you were trying to turn it up or down; eventually it stopped working altogether. The color screen was nice, but not really necessary, and the rechargability was a mixed blessing. It was nice not having to buy batteries, but the remote didn't fit the cradle very well, and Logitech eventually had to replace a lot of charging cradles.
OK, so why is the 670 so much better? For one thing, it is about half the price of those others. It works better than the 880 at keeping track of the state of each component - with the 880 we were always using the "help" screen; with the 670 we almost never need it. I like the button layout, the nice blue backlighting, and the solid feel of the volume and channel controls. Having to replace batteries is only a minor drawback. They last a long time and it's nice not having to put the remote in the charger all the time.
I have no reservations about recommending this remote to anyone who needs to control several components.
Customer Review: I Love This Remote Summary: 5 Stars
This thing is way better than I ever expected! I have some equipment that never works with usual universal remotes, but these guys have codes for so many brands and models. The web programming is cool, because I know if I have to change batteries or step on it. I won't have to program again. It comes with the USB cable to download the settings to the remote.
Really the price is just about what you have to pay for a original remote for a single device. I literally use only this remote now, including a Tivo AND an HD DVR from Direct TV.
The real beauty of this thing is the activity definition. For example, when I press "play DVD" that single button turns on my T.V, turns on my audio receiver, turns on my DVD, sets the proper input on the T.V, and sets the proper input on the audio system. The volume controls the stereo sound, while the pause/forward/rewind buttons control the DVD.
I have different activities defined for things like "play Tivo with T.V. sound" or "play Tivo with Surround Sound". There are six buttons by the LCD screen that can be set to any function you want for each activity. In the unlikely event there is a specific function on your existing remote that is not accounted this remote will learn the function from your old remote.
I'm recommending this thing to everybody I know that has a decent system. Especially anyone that owns a Tivo or DVR.
