Customer Review: A little work but it Rocks!
Summary: 5 Stars

Finally! A resonably priced touchscreen that removes the numorous remotes from our coffee table. I did have a little trouble getting it to work at first because of a video switcher that I am using. (Psyclone) After one call and to Logitech's support line and a very patient agent, the problem was solved. The great thing was she did all of the adjustments to my settings while I was on the phone and all I had to do was update the remote once. She stayed on the line until we both knew the issue was resolved. Logitech's support is one of the best I have dealt with in the computer industry. It was a pleasent surprize speaking to a support center that is located in the US instead of dealing with and offshore center that has become so common in this industry. Another great feature is the ability to program 24 favorite channels with station logos so it makes it easy to navigate between a number of different channels. Logitech will even provide you with the web sites where you can download the logos. A software update will be welcomed in the future because one thing you can also do with this remote is relocate buttons on the touchscreen, a task of which I have yet to figure out. Thier explanitations in the manual and on the help tab does not match the actual process. Maybe it's going to be another call to the support center!!! For those of you looking for a great programble remote that can replace all of you others this is the one! PS...For you married guys your wife will love it!

Customer Review: excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

Pros:
-Lightweight
-Easiest universal to program I've ever seen
-Incredibly extensive database of devices
-Intuitive default button layout
-Easy to customize button functions
-Just the right number of physical buttons
-Easy for guests to figure out at a glance
-Unlike other Harmony remotes and other brands, sequence and repeated commands execute very quickly, which is a huge benefit
-Can control a Playstation 3 if you buy the PS3 Nyko Infrared USB adapter
-Has database of commands for most game consoles that recognize infrared
-Assigns codes based on device model number instead of an ambiguous 3 or 4 digit code (i.e. For a TV, most remotes will just list a brand like "Sharp" and then give you 3-12 codes to try. The Harmony 1000 will ask you for manufacturer AND model number so that it gets the codes precisely.)

Cons:
-If you do want to change the button layout, it's a little more difficult than in some other remotes
-Default graphics can't easily be changed
-It takes a little practice to figure out how to avoid the remote truncating command names
-Doesn't come with the RF extender (additional $93 purchase) - I would highly recommend the extender if you are using sequences just so that you don't have to think about where you are aiming the remote

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

When my old universal remote bit the dust, I went over to Best Buy and looked at the various remotes available. I then saw all the negative reviews of the Harmony line and was really scared to get one. Glad I ignored the negative reviews and got it.

I am not sure why most people find the PC interface so difficult. I had absolutely no problem. You just have to go in with the knowledge that it is function based rather than device based. The software deals with all the nasty 'macros' behind the scenes to make everything work seamlessly. Setup was a breeze and it worked perfectly. It works much better than any other remote I ever had. Has no problem turning the correct devices on and off, switching inputs and seems to have all the important buttons working correctly.

Only one device, a 400 disk Sony DVD player was not in their DB, but using the original remote it was able to figure out which codes to use. Very cool.

I originally got a 550 Harmony but was so impressed with it that I bought the 1000 and gave the 550 to my wife to use. I found the 1000 easier to read without glasses than the 550.

This is a great product and I would definitely buy it again. Amazon sells these remotes for 50% below Circuit City and Best Buy. Otherwise there was not way I could see spending $500 on this!

Customer Review: Works flawlessly
Summary: 5 Stars

I read quite a bit of the carping below, and I have to say that at least by February 2007, much of it is unwarranted. I bought the remote, hooked it up to my MacBook Pro (Yes, it does work on Macs, in spite of the comments here), and it set up my system by answering some questions that mostly were arrived at by reading the Add devices worksheet that it let me print out. The tricky points would be in knowing how some of your devices are actually connected. If you're not that technical, it still isn't that hard. You just have to look at where the wires are plugged in on SOME, not all units. I have a digital projector, for example, with five inputs. I had to tell the remote that it uses input A. That was found by looking at the cluster of wires coming out of the area marked "Input A" on the projector.

I should note that this unit is replacing a Pronto, which I bought before Phillips took over the brand for waaay too much money from a local home theater company. They wanted to replace it with a $1500 unit that looks just like the LogiTech 800 series. The 1000 is similar to the Pronto, at a better price, and is FAR EASIER to program and maintain.

Logitech has always been a top-notch company for computer peripherals. They are leveraging that experience over here on the entertainment side well!

Customer Review: BEST Universal Remote EVER!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I kept debating on purchasing the Logitech Harmony 1000 remote for months now. I read review after review, went to the store and looked at it a thousand different times, then recently broke down and ordered it from Amazon.com because of the special price. I do NOT regret making this purchase. This remote is user friendly in so many ways. With the USB cable, programming is easier than ever before. It works better with my LCD's, cable boxes, DVD players, and surround sound systems better than the remotes that they came with. One of the best functions of this remote is the fact that you can program it to turn on everything you own with the touch of one button. It's so much better than powering on one component at a time, especially when you have 4 or 5 components to turn on. The range on it is incredible. It's a little bulky at first, but I got used to it really quick. Not only that, you learn to overlook the size of it when you discover how well it works and all of its features. The matte LCD screen is really easy to clean. I can't think of any cons with this remote. My Significant other is not technology oriented at all and she can even use this remote with ease. I'll be buying another one when this one wears out, or an upgrade if they come out with it! Thanks Amazon!!!
