Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech G9 Laser MouseCustomer Review: Awesome!!! Summary: 5 Stars
This mouse is the best mouse I've ever used! I had problems with the G9-specific SetPoint software not installing, but a topic in the logitech mouse forums provided a fix, and it works fine.
A couple things, though:
- The included grips are a bit small for my hands, but the ID Grip that logitech sells on its website is a bit bigger than both the included grips, so I prefer to use that one most of the time.
- Being able to change the color of the LEDs and being able to store profiles is frankly quite awesome. I enjoy changing the colors of the LEDs on a whim, and the profile feature is handy for quickly switching controls when launching a game.
- This mouse is really kind of small. It's about the size of a generic optical mouse, far smaller than the MX518 I used before. Using the ID grip makes the mouse almost as big as the 518, but the mouse takes some getting used to because it's not as comfy as Logitech's other expensive mice. The MX5xx series is much more comfortable.
Overall, this mouse is totally awesome. I mean, it definitely feels awesome in your hands even if you don't like it. I didn't like its feel at first, and it's not a good mouse for people who like to feel comfortable when using the computer, but it's excellent for game playing and I've grown to like it a lot.
One last note:
If you were curious about how it displays the 5 profiles/5 dpi settings with only three bars, it works like this:
1st: [ . .
2nd: [ [ .
3rd: [ [ [
4th: . [ [
5th: . . [
The curiosity was kind of eating away at me when I was deciding on buying it, but yeah, that's how it displays the 5 profiles/5 dpi levels.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
OK, this is a review from a non-PC-Gamer. My PS2 is for games, my PC is for work, writing, and the Internet. I needed a new mouse & this one won--and am I glad. This puppy has more bells and whistles than my car. I know I have had Logitech hardware in the past; if this is as durable as it was easy to install, we'll have more Logitech in the future.
First, when it says plug & play on the box, it means it! Our track-ball Dell mouse had seen better days. I unplugged it & plugged in this G9 & ten seconds later all the problems we had with the previous mouse were in the past.
We have had a "laser" mouse in the past and simply hated the way it worked. (It was wireless & the battery life sucked) The G9 has a one-touch sensitivity toggle on the top, and it's great. If the pointer is moving too quickly across the screen, tap it once for less sensitivity. And the over-the-top feature: you can change the color of the led display that tells you what level the sensitivity is set to. The cloth-coated cord is different, and it actually helps hold the mouse in place on the keyboard shelf.
It comes with two different grips "wide load" and "precision" which are literally a snap to change. Never used a more comfortable mouse. It comes with four 7g and four 4g weights which are wicked easy to install. Next to the thumb rest are extra buttons--the whole thing is programmable w/ on-mouse memory...This may just turn me into a PC gamer (while I save up for a PS3).
Customer Review: great for "finger grip" mouse position Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first "gaming" mouse to use, so am used to the generic Dell-type mice everyone gets with their computers or wireless package --- small, 2 buttons, center scroll wheel, no crazy angled shape to the design. So using those I've always used a "claw/finger" grip and lift the mouse with my fingers. This mouse is GREAT for that! The "small" cover/grip is nice and flat on the sides with a small footprint. 99% of the other gaming mice out there have a huge palm-grip design with all these crazy grooves for your thumb, long enough to rest your whole hand on, etc. If that's the kind of mouse you like, then this might not be for you as even the "large" cover/grip is really only slightly larger than the "small" grip. It's a little more contoured, but isn't gigantic where you're gonna rest your hand on it.
Great feature is you can set 5 different sensitivity points on it in 200 intervals from 200-3200. Any 5 you want! Easy to change and play around with.
Only negative I have so far is the weights. Like I said, using the "claw" grip one picks up the mouse from time to time with the thumb and pinky/ring fingers. Well the weights are in the back/rear side of the mouse, so when I pick up the mouse it tilts/pivots back a little which DOES move the cursor initially. Used to the 50/50 weight distribution and possibly mice not SO sensitive! Maybe I need to play with the weights a lil more, play with my grip, or just remove them entirely (which is a shame as it takes that feature of the mouse away). Might have to hand make a little weight at the top where the cord goes in to balance it out if I get that industrious.
Customer Review: G9 vs G7 Summary: 5 Stars
Most of the other reviews cover all the technical aspects of the mouse much better than I can. I will just go over a few things. Have been a logitech fan for many years. My last mouse was a G7, warrantied it once, and got a whole new replacement. About 6 months later, I noticed all 4 of my batteries were only lasting about 2 hours of gaming. Kind of annoyinging. So I decided to try out the G9. At first I was a little leary of going back to a corded mouse after such a fine track record of cordless mice from Logitech. But all things considered I am glad I went with the G9, its an extremely nice mouse.
PROS:
1. 2 thumb buttons again! (VS the G7 that only had 1, which screwed up a lot of games)
2. The weighted system is really nice, to give you just the right amount of feedback.
3. Weighted Scroll Wheel. If your use to the clickless scroll wheel mice, its like that, but the wheel is 'heavier'. If you spin it like you mean it, it will carry on its own for a little bit.
4. Interchangeable grips, I liked the physical size of the wider grip, but I like the texture of the smaller one better.
5. The ergonomics, your hand tends to lay flatter with this mouse, and it leaves your fingers in a more relaxed position for clicking.
6. Corded! No more batteries dying on you in the middle of a raid, or zombie hoard.
CONS:
1. The ergonomics took a little getting use to at first. Not as long as I would of thought though.
2. Would prefer that the bigger grip had the really rough texture that the smaller grip has, its very nice for long sessions.
Customer Review: Best mouse ever! Summary: 5 Stars
And I mean that literally as this is possibly the best mouse I have ever owned! My last mouse was the logitech mx518 and not to say anything bad about that mouse (since I've used it for over 2 years) but it does not hold anything to the G9 mouse. First of all, this is one of the first mouse to include weights, 4 4g and 4 7g weights. This is particularly important since this mouse has a high DPI rating (3200 DPI), with the extra weight you won't have to move around the mouse a lot to make precise clicks. For those who do not know what DPI is (it's used to measure the dots on your screen), pretty much the higher the DPI the faster your mouse is. You will not need to use the 3200 DPI setting as it is way too high for any monitor out there, recommended DPI setting is either 2000 (for 17-23 inch monitors) to 2400-2800 DPI (for 25-30 inch monitors). The mouse comes with another grip, which is made for those who sweat a lot during game sessions and that you won't lose grip of your mouse. There is no software included, and the only way to configure the mouse is to download it at the logitech website. The mouse feels comfortable and gaming is fun with this mouse. I will not recommend this mouse as an everyday mouse since you can find cheaper mouses (unless your the type that must get the latest technology). This mouse is recommended to those who are in need of a better mouse for gaming. My only gripe is that the horizontal scroll takes a bit getting used to but that's about it. One of the best mouse I have ever used.
Note: As you can tell by the picture this is a corded mouse and not wireless.
