Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech G9 Laser MouseCustomer Review: Better Than Your Old Mouse...WAIT...IT BROKE! Summary: 5 Stars
ORIGINAL REVIEW AUGUST 28TH, 2008
Never in my life have I found such a fast accurate mouse, where so much thought went into the design process. In fact, this is not for all practical purposes a single mouse, but you could at least consider it two different mice. Why? Well, it has two grips, which have two totaly different feels. Combine that with a totally customizable unique weight balance system, and you have quite a few combinations of custom mice right out of the box. You will probably settle on just one or two, but never have the choices been so plentiful.
Everything you get with this mouse is top notch, but you might expect that if you are willing to shell out this much for just a mouse. Sure, it might be the best mouse you've ever used. Sure, the feet glide, and the weight and grip combos are fancy, and the wheel can spin freely or spin in clicked steps, and macros and lights are customizable, but the real question is: is it worth the price?
Well, that is something you have to decide on your own.
Even if you are overpaying a bit, in my opinion, they have packaged it so well, and the performace is so great that it all seems like a good deal when all is said and done.
It's better than your old mouse. Probably better than your friend's mouse. You ought to give it a try.
NEW ADDITION 11/17/2008
This stupid mouse broke! At first, while playing Fallout 3 I thought, perhaps my character's agility is affecting how fast I can pull the trigger, and then suddenly, I realized, the left click button isn't working. Sometimes it would work, and sometimes not, and sometimes only when you pushed really hard at the very end of the button, and not where I normally pressed it at the end near the top of the mouse. This is SOOOOO frustrating paying such a whopping price for a really cool mouse which wore out after a few months with some fairly light gameplay.
You might think, this guy broke it by pressing too hard. Pretty unlikely since I am NOT a hardcore gamer, and really have used it mainly for video editing. And, even if I did break it, imagine someone who plays FPS's every night and I would have a hard time imagining how anyone could AVOID breaking it.
This may look nice, and it has great packaging and consumer appeal, but in the end, it is a cheap piece of crap.

In fairness to Logitech, they have a great return department. The warranty on my mouse covered a replacement, and I didn't even have to return the original. It makes you feel a little better to know that there is a reason you pay so much money for a mouse. It has a good warranty, and even if you might need to use it, you are at least getting your moneys worth.
Customer Review: No issues, but still evaluating Summary: 5 Stars
I made the move to this mouse from a MX Laser wireless mouse. It was one of several mice in this price range that I was considering and the Amazon sale price plus the Logitech [...] made me decide to buy it. So far, I have no complaints at all. The mouse works very well.
The mouse comes with two interchangeable grips. I found the larger mouse cover to be more to my liking. In fact, I purchased the even larger ID grip for it from Logitech, and it has proven to be my favorite.
As with any high-end device one must become familiar with all its features to really appreciate it. I spent a week or so changing weights around. The weight system seemed a little silly at first, but it actually is very nice. Not only can you change how much weight is in the mouse, but by positioning the weights in different spots you can change the mouse's balance.
The included software is excellent. You can program the mouse's many settings to your liking for any application and switch between them quite easily. Once you have used the software to assign a particular profile to a program, the mouse is switched to that profile when you start the application. It's pretty slick. As is too common these days, the online manual could be better, but since there are three preloaded profiles, I was able to use them as models to build my own. It is a process of trial and error; tweak and re-tweak, but this is largely unavoidable when customizing a mouse like this to your style of playing.
Programming of the mouse's buttons is the one thing I have not really mastered yet; I will try to remember to edit this review when I do.
All in all, I am quite happy with it so far, particularly at the excellent sale price I paid. (It was over 50% off with the rebate included.) I would recommend that you find a store or a friend who will let you get hands-on with any mouse in the [...] price range before you buy. As one excellent review of another product once pointed out, anything that you find a bit bothersome in the first ten minutes will become truly annoying after a few days, so it pays to take your time and do your research.
I can state without reservation that the G9 is a very well-made product. All the materials appear to be first quality. Fit and finish is excellent. Even the mouse cord is obviously high quality. If you are looking for a first-rate corded gaming mouse this one should certainly be on your short list.
Customer Review: Logitech G9 Summary: 5 Stars
Logitech's G9 laser mouse is possibly the best mouse I've ever had to date. It's extremely accurate, which is a must for both headshots and for the graphics work that I do. The buttons are all nice and clicky and very responsive, and overall the mouse appears to be well- constructed. Read on if you'd like to know more.
The on-the-fly DPI adjuster comes in pretty handy, though you might just find a sensitivity level you like and stick to it. The mousewheel is another interesting feature, as you can shift it between normal mode for games and applications that make use of each individual 'click' of the wheel, and flywheel mode for scrolling rapidly. The button for 'shifting' as it were is located on the base of the mouse, so its a little awkward to get to, but it keeps it from shifting on accident at the very least.
The weight system is a little dubious in its usefulness in my opinion, but I like my devices to be weighty so I made it as heavy as a could. There is some difference in handling between a heavy and a light mouse, however, so you might want to play with it. The weights themselves come in a cool aluminum box.
The swappable grips are another cool feature. One is larger and wider with a soft, smooth finish that's designed to fit a little better in your palm. The other is more narrow and shallow, with a rough finish that's easy to hold in a sort of "claw" grip. Personally I prefer the latter type, as my long fingers have always made it easier to hold a mouse with that claw grip. As a bonus, the rough texture also helps to keep my hand from sweating. Regardless of the grip you use, switching between them is incredibly easy and tool-less, so you can spend all the time you want testing them out. Keep in mind that both grips are designed to facilitate accurate, swift hand movements, and aren't designed to be as ergonomically comfortable as, say, the MX revolution.
Customer Review: Amazing mouse but not perfect Summary: 5 Stars
This mouse is the ultimate in actual precision, and not just in the numbers. It's smooth and can be weighted to your personal feel very easily and is very well constructed. I do however have problems with the DPI adjustment buttons and the s/s wheel. When moving the wheel side to side I often actuate either the left or right mouse button which can be disasterous in game. While the slight up curve on the l/r buttons is very comfortable, it is just too close to the wheel making it too easy to activate when using s/s wheel. Also when switching DPI I also activate the left mouse button quite often accidentally. This design is a bit annoying and I am trying to come up with a workaround, but perhaps I will actually do some machining on the mouse to modify the button areas I have mentioned, but probably not until it is much older since I paid a goodly sum for this and don't want to ruin it so soon. I didn't give the setup software good points either since I had some trouble with it though I believe spending more time with it will yield some great results. It can do so much it is just a bit overwhelming. The colored lights which change on the mouse itself to identify which mode you are in is truly great. And though I have quite large hands and at first found this mouse to be a little too small, I have adapted very well to it in just a few days gaming. Odd that it is so much better than my G5 that I used prior to this. But it is measureably smoother and more accurate even set to the identical DPI and weighting. Buy this mouse if you are serious about your gaming or just want a very comfortable mouse for anything. I also use this mouse for WaveLab and Solidworks and it is nothing less than perfect. You won't be disappointed. Oh and I didn't mention that the wire on this mouse does not interfere at all with the motion so no need to go wireless with all the inherent issues that can bring. (:-)}}}
Customer Review: This mouse is the best mouse available today. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the G5 when it came out, and wow, it was nice, very precise, but as anyone who has that mouse can tell you, pressing the middle mouse button takes quite an effort, after a few months, I had to stop using it, and go back to a far inferior mouse. I bought the G9 recently, and am in love. It is everything I loved about the g5, and I can use it for regular use, and not just gaming.
The g5 ended up only getting used to play games, because everything was great with the exception of the middle mouse, and rarely do you press down the middle mouse in a game.
This new g9 has all the features of the g5, just better. The middle mouse rules, I can click it whenever I want, and it works (its odd that something like that can make someone soo happy, but if you have the g5, you will rejoice with this feature). I can now use my wonderful, fancy mouse inside of my OS without the fear of fighting the middle mouse.
The mouse has a good texture, it feels nice, and smooth, it looks great, and everyone enjoys it. My g5 had this "vintage" look, and it look wore out from day one (I thought it was cool, others thought I attacked the mouse with some vigor), this one looks good from day one! very comfortable, and highly customizable.
I used a friends razor mouse, and didn't like it. I have always enjoy logitech, and there design. This mouse is quite the departure from standard logitech fair. It looks futuristic, and is very high priced.
It is worth every penny, and should suite everyone who desires a nice precise mouse. I get no lag. I can play this online in games with no programs. I play cod 4, and this mouse is far superior to my g5.
I use this mouse with the Razer eXactMat X speed and it works perfectly. It is the most accurate combination you can get, and both are available here at amazon for free shipping.
