Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech G15 Gaming Keyboard (Black)

Customer Review: This is the perfect keyboard, great for buisness and gamiing
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had this board for about 3 weeks now and I had my last one for 6 years. I never thought it was worth the money to get a keyboard so I just kept my old one till it was just having some conflicts.
I am glad I waited to get this board and not the old G15 because I want one that fits and looks like a regular keyboard. The Display is so usefull, I like the hardware monitor andthe count down timer is so handy. Also the media player is great.

While in a game or while waiting for the computer to do something I can view the performance information and it will show me what the computer is doing, or if its stuck.

IT WILL SHOW A SEPARATE BAR FOR EACH CORE, I HAVE A QUAD CORE AND ITS NICE TO SEE WHICH PROGRAMS USE ALL 4 CORES AND WHICH ONES DON'T.

I tried the program buttons and it was very easy, I just don't need them but if you like hot keys they make it so easy. I made one for creating new folders and now I just press one button and... wham!, a new folder. Simple I know but thats what this board is all about.

Best Feature: Lighted keys, ALL KEYS. There is a light adjustment button as well.

MYTH: volume keys are great even though some people here make it sound like they are cheap. They are not cheap and work very well, however its not a dial.... you choose.

BAD: 2 USB ports, however they aren't good for anything that needs the usual USB power.

Bottom Line: Great Board, feels nice and has full size keys that "click" like a desktop not a laptop. Very durable and I don't expect the keys to wipe off because they are etched. Should last another 6 years.

Have Fun

Customer Review: Awesome keyboard, especially for the price.
Summary: 5 Stars

Pro: I originally didn't buy this keyboard because I thought it was just a regular one with a few novelties. I was wrong. The 3 sets of 6 (very easily programmed) macro keys are extremely handy. I also thought the screen was just a toy. After downloading updated software it can do quite a bit. It has a countdown timer, stopwatch, rss feed for news etc., time and date, cpu and ram monitors among other things. I also like how my Xfire messages come up on it's screen. It's light but feels well built. Multi-media keys around the screen are nice. The windows key lockout is awesome. I have had the Merc and Merc Stealth keyboards and thought I wouldn't be able to go without the gamepad section but after using this I can't go back. It looks sweet to boot. I highly recommend this keyboard.

Con: The clip on wrist rest is kinda flimsy, but I don't think it needs one to begin with. If you aren't at a desk it won't stay on very well. I use my keyboard in my lap (monitor is hdtv) so I left it off. I personally liked the blue color of the older version better but they say that orange is easier on the eyes. Why not have a color change ability like my merc? This version's lcd is hard mounted and not adjustable like the old one.

Other: The older version has a larger lcd but the newer one is higher resolution so that is kind of a wash. Also the older version has double the macro keys but I don't really see this a con since I haven't used up my macro keys on any profiles and double would just be more things to remember. If you don't want to spend the money on the G-19 for the color lcd then this is the keyboard for you.

Customer Review: Not just for gaming
Summary: 5 Stars

I see a lot of reviews hammering this keyboard for the lack of its predecessor's macro keys. It has 6 macro keys which can increased to a total of 18 via the memory buttons. I seriously doubt there are many people who really need the 54 total macro keys the previous G15 had, and I think 18 would be sufficient for most. Also, the narrower size makes this a better fit for my setup.

I like the orange lighting of the LCD, and it not having it flip-up is fine for me - less chance of something breaking. Logitech toughts this as a gaming keyboard, but this is really suitable for just about anything computer related requiring a keyboard. The keys have a nice feel for me, not too soft or too hard to press. Price is a bit on the high side, but if you can get it with the rebate then it's not bad considering what this keyboard offers - the LCD, backlighting and macro ability.

Searching the web, I found quite a few applets available for the G15 that I was interested in - Trillian, TeamSpeak, BF2142 and others. And it looks like more are in development. This is the only keyboard I'm aware of that offers this LCD capability, and it was great to find a lot of my apps are already supported.

I gave this keyboard 5 stars because it suits my needs perfectly. Everyone's different, but definately check this out if you're in the market for a decent keyboard that's not just for gaming.

Customer Review: A excellent, feature-rich, solid keyboard overall
Summary: 5 Stars

Pros
-Relatively good construction quality, though my previous Saitek Eclipse was actually still a bit more solid in my opinion.
-The palmrest has a nice sorta rubberied finish to it so my hands aren't slipping around like on my previous keyboards.
-LCD screen is actually pretty easilly viewable and has better application support than I had initially expected. The most useful of these for me are probably, RSS, Trillian, and CoreTemp. It's sorta nice when I run a random application and see it pop up on my G15 screen.
-Illumination is relatively bright and well distributed.

Cons
-I don't particularly like the soft keypresses, I prefer a distinct "clicky" feel like that found on ThinkPads.
-The G keys are honestly useless to me and sorta just get in my way.
-USB1.1 support only on the USB ports, but so far I've kept both my Logitech G500 laser mouse and 3Dconnexion 3D CAD mouse plugged into it and it works perfectly fine and makes my cording neater.

Summary
Overall I still think this is a great keyboard. My previous two keyboards were the Saitek Eclipse and the Razer Arctosa. All three of these keyboards cost me $35 (though the G15 had the biggest sale discount) and I can undoubtly say that out of the three the G15 runs circles around the others in terms of overall build quality and features.

Customer Review: Pretty amazing keyboard
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been wanting this keyboard for a while, and when my old one finally died, I saw it as an opportunity. I also liked the new G19, but it really wasn't worth the extra cash in my opinion (over twice as much as I paid for this one).

It looks nice, much nicer than the original version, but the orange lights are just plain fugly. It really should have either had changeable lights or at least been a more standard color like blue, green, or red...

The features are really nice, the GamePanel LCD, while not that big of a deal, is really cool. It's great for listening to music with a game full screen, as it shows all the song/artist info right on screen for all major media players, was helpful while using Vent as it showed who was talking, and also has a lot of user made apps that are really cool, too.

Also, the keyboard feels nice to type on, although not the best, the keys are a tad mushy.

As a last note, the G keys are really nice. In RPGs they make keybindings a lot easier, as no more need for Alt/Ctrl modifiers, and they also make using the desktop way faster as well.

All in all, great keyboard, fugly color.
