I did buy this for gaming and/so I can see the keys in the dark or low light.
I am now a grad student, and therefore have ZERO time for gaming, but I used to be obsessed with MMO's, specifically Guild Wars.
I also had a bunch of FPS for PC.
The keyboard is good quality materials/construction. The backlighting is a great feature. The programmable keys I didn't make as much use for since I had a program that did virtually the same thing.
It is big, so it's not like you'll tote this around in your laptop bag, but it's perfect for an office or desktop type applications.
I like the USB ports on the keyboard itself also. Something you don't think you need until they're there and then you find all sorts of uses for them.
The volume control on the keyboard itself is also handy.

This keyboard is just plain amazing. The one thing I can think of that's bad yet REALLY awesome is that it has TOO many shortcut keys. I can't even think of what to set each one to. One thing I wish it had is if the software for the keyboard would open a small window when you hold the shortcut key that would tell you what you have set to that key. With so many keys, it's hard to remember what you have set to each one. I have shortcut keys 1-3 set to enable/disable my multi-monitor setup. I have a shortcut for the calculater, notepad, Ventrilo, and a few other of my daily-used programs. I have 1 key set to launch and log in to all 3 of my messengers: AIM, MSN, and Xfire. The keys are really soft and really makes typing feel quiet and quicker! The blue light matches perfect with my custom-built desktop which also has blue-lit fans.Customer Review: Exceeds expectations

I just recently bought the G11 to replace an old Microsoft keyboard i owned. I was looking at backlit models from several different companies and i kept coming back to this one. To put it simply: i made the right choice. This keyboard is amazing, even typing on this keyboard feels better than any other keyboard i've tried. As for the backlight, when other lights are on in the room, its kind of dim, but when all the lights are off, its plenty bright even on the dimmer setting. And in normal light, the keys are still easy to read without the backlight. As i've only used this keyboard for less than an hour i don't know about any long term defects, but if i encounter any i'll post to this review. Overall, this is one of the best keyboards for the money you can get.Customer Review: This is awesome

I have been gaming with this for a while now...and the extra Gkeys are well worth it..
I had a Logitech elite before until it got drunk to death..
Aye ale and a keyboard do not mix..there was no saving it.
So when I went to get another I saw this, and I absolutely love the blue back lighting, to the keys, can play without a light, and the extra Gkeys a must for gaming..the ease of use, for anything, not just gaming..
All in all its a definite 5, if this one went I'd replace it with another one..Why pay more for the little screen, who actually uses that when their playing on-line..
This one in my opinion is the better of the two..for the price even better.
I recommend this to anyone, and especially for gamers..

I have owned MANY keyboards, I usually stick with a design and only buy that kind once I get used to it. This keyboard was recommended because of the ability to add Macros, Gamming setups for those of you who play games (WOW). It's lighted, the keys are perfectly spread apart so I am not hitting the wrong keys at the wrong time. It has a lighted display, so I can see right on the screen what the volume is, Time, etc. It also has two USB ports very easy to reach at the back of the keyboard, which is VERY convenient. I had to write, anyone questioning buying this keyboard should have reasurrance that this keyboard rocks!! Even if you don't play games, it's still very nice to have the lighted keys (typing in the dark) :)
