Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Logitech Cordless TrackMan WheelCustomer Review: Love It.. Laptop quick fix too! Summary: 5 Stars
My corded version wore out :( Since the cats loved to play with the cord on the old one, I chose to buy this one. Its great, no more cat toy! One problem I did experience was with the download of the new 4.8 driver from Logitech - their file was damaged so I had to get it off another site
I solved the laptop issue:
* Buy some 3/4" - 1", light weight, adhesive backed(both sides) Velcro.
* Cut a section about 2 inches long - so it fits between the rubber feet of the receiver.
* Leave the Velcro stuck together: peel and firmly adhere the fuzzy side of the Velcro to the bottom of the receiver between the feet.
* Peel and gently adhere the other side of the Velcro to the top edge (when open) lid of your laptop, so the hole on the bottom of receiver faces you and is at least an inch clear of the top of the open lid - DO NOT apply hard, heavy, blunt forward or twisting pressure to your laptop lid - the screen may be damaged!
* CLOSE the laptop.
* Carefully remove the receiver separating the Velcro, now run your finger firmly over the Velcro on the laptop lid so its stuck on real well - DO NOT apply hard or heavy blunt downward pressure to your laptop lid - the screen may be damaged.
* Stick the receiver back on the laptop aligning the Velcro. DO NOT apply hard or heavy blunt downward pressure to your laptop lid - the screen may be damaged.
* Connect the receiver to your USB port, loop and tie excess cord; leave enough slack so there is no stress on the USB port or the receiver.
Ta Da! Works great and no more work to remove and store than a corded mouse.
You may want to find out if/where your wireless antenna is inside your laptop so you can stick the receiver as far away as possible on the lid. On my Dell 1520 I stuck the receiver on the top right corner.
Customer Review: Long-time User Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this item for over 5 years without a problem of any kind. Although I also have an excellent cordless mouse (Logitech MX700), I use this trackball most of the time. When I rest my (smaller than average) hand comfortably on it, my thumb is in perfect position to move the ball and my fingers rest naturally on the slightly concave areas of the buttons. The scroll wheel is very easy to move, yet gives me the feedback I like, and the scroll wheel button never gets accidentally pressed while scrolling.
I mounted the receiver on the underside of my desktop with foam mounting tape - works fine. Out of sight, out of mind.
The software (Logitech Mouseware v9.79) makes all three buttons user-definable and provides many other ways to customize operation. The tabbed interface is very intuitive, and allows settings to be made for more than one mouse. TIP: I suggest setting the speed low, for precision, and the acceleration high, to allow large movement without lifting your thumb.
The single AA battery lasts several months, even with heavy usage. I wouldn't want a rechargeable trackball, since that would require a bulky recharging cradle on my desk. If you really dislike disposable batteries, standard NiMH rechargeables work fine.
There are 4 small Phillips-head screws which must be removed in order to remove the ball for cleaning. Fortunately, this doesn't need to be done often. Once the screws are out, though, cleaning is very easy and takes only seconds. Since the shell stays together quite well without the screws, I permanently removed mine years ago, thus eliminating the only thing I didn't like.
This trackball is one of the very few devices which I would be hard pressed to to find a way to improve. That's why I'm buying a second one.
Customer Review: Best Wireless Mouse Summary: 5 Stars
I've actually purchased this mouse twice because I loved it so much. The first time was years ago when it was first released, and no other mouse has ever been anywhere close to as good. If you want a wireless mouse, this one is perfect in just about every aspect.
I've always thought, what good is a wireless mouse that isn't a trackball? Wireless mouse that require you to move the mouse around a surface extremely limits the places you can use your mouse other than a desk or table. That's one of the primary reasons I love this mouse. The trackball wireless design means I can put it on any surface, no matter how small an area, and use my mouse as normal. Even if you aren't used to a trackball mouse, it doesn't take a long time to get used to it, and I find that it ends up being faster and easier to move your mouse on screen than with traditional mice.
This mouse also fits so perfectly and comfortably in your hands you can use it for hours without feeling fatigue or uncomfortable. All the buttons and the trackball are set right under your fingers and are very natural and easy to use. The wireless function is done very well, you can use this from a good distance (if you are far enough away and can still see your computer screen, you can still use this), and you do not need it to be lined up with the sensor.
My only wish that would have made this a perfect mouse would have been the horizontal scroll wheel. It has the normal scroll wheel, but many new mice today have a function that allows the scroll wheel to be "tilted" from side to side to provide horizontal scrolling (like when a webpage is wider that your browser's screen). A small issue, but would be nice for future releases.
Customer Review: Trackball freedom! Summary: 5 Stars
Logitech Cordless TrackMan Wheel
This is my second Logitech track ball. The first was the corded version. It worked seamlessly for many years. I eventually passed it on to another eager owner. Due entirely to my decision to upgrade to the cordless world. I purchased a Logitech cordless keyboard (another story) & the Logitech cordless track ball. The cordless version is similar to the older corded version. Most of the functions remain the same. The ball is easier to clean in that you can simply pop it out of the socket by inserting a pencil eraser from below & giving it a little nudge. The older corded version you had to remove a ring that retained the ball in place. The detent to turn the ring was tiny & not easy to use. So this is an improvement in that area.
The software was easy to load, directions are simple & the software worked first time out. When the battery loses power the functions on the screen simply do not work as well in response to the ball commands, if at all. I have discovered the easiest way to change the battery is to take the track ball to another room, out of range of the receiver, swop out the battery & return to your computor. The trackball works seamlessly once again. You do not have to power down the computor nor re link the track ball to the receiver.
I would categorize the piece as very easy to load, use, & completely reliable. I much prefer the ergonomics & functionality of the trackball vs a conventional mouse in any version. One cavaet, keep spare batteries around.
Customer Review: A great, classic product - now wireless! Summary: 5 Stars
I have loved the Logitech TrackMan trackballs, particularly the "marble" versions. I have used almost every version they have produced. This particular model of the famous Marble is my favorite - precise thumb control of the ball, and easy fingering of the buttons and scroll wheel, all combined with a perfect ergonomic design that allows hours of comfortable use.
When I went to a Mac recently, I reluctantly but dutifully got a Mac power mouse. BIG mistake. I hate, hate, hate using a mouse! So I hooked my old TrackMan up to the Mac keyboard and - Voila! - my right hand was happy again. And I was effortlessly zooming around the screen. And joyfully experiencing, once again, the superiority of a right-click context menu (that Control-Click BS is something I never will understand about Macs).
Since I have become a Mac devotee and would never go back to PC - especially now that I found I could use my beloved trackball - I decided to treat myself to the convenience of the new cordless TrackMan. Same great product I'd been using for years, just without the "string." Others might complain about the size of the transmitter and the length of the cord that attaches it to the computer, but it is easily concealed. My keyboard drawer is delightfully free of clutter, with only my new, ultra-thin Mac keyboard and my cordless TrackMan. Life is sweet!
If you, like me, prefer a trackball to a mouse, you will love this cordless version. If you are a regular mouse user, I urge you to consider the liberating experience of keeping your hand in one place and letting "your fingers do the walking."
